Memphis is a major city that is right on the New Madrid Seismic Zone. It would probably look worse over there. Seismic waves on that side of the country travel extremely far. The magnitude 8 that happened 208-9 years ago rang church bells all the way over in Boston. I was astonished hearing about that.
Here in St. Louis we have a saying: when the Big One hits; whatever we get here, Memphis will get twice as much.

The longer this quake waits the bigger it will be.
these little ones relieve pressure on the fault, so it won't be as big as long as it remains active since the pressure won't be as large once it's released.
