Fly with us into busy Thermal Airport aka Jacquelin Cochran Regional Airport on Runway 17 . This airport has no transient parking but does have self-service fuel. There is a lot of private jet traffic here and a lot of large jets!
TRANSIENT PARKING
There is no transient parking available at this airport but there are 3 FBOs that provide parking and other services.
FBO
There are three FBOs at this airport, Atlantic Aviation, Desert Jet Center and Thermal Aviation. We decided to try out Thermal Aviation this time around and loved it. There was no fee for our short 2 hour stay. Overnight ramp fee is $20/night.
FUEL
Self-service fuel is available and conveniently located near Thermal Aviation FBO. Fuel is a bit cheaper here than most SoCal airports. Full-service fuel is available through Atlantic Aviation and Desert Jet Center.
RESTROOMS
Public restrooms are located inside of the FBOs. We utilized Thermal Aviation on this trip and they had one restroom located next to the Pilot’s Lounge and one near their main office.
CREW CAR / CAR RENTAL
There are crew cars available for short term use if you use Atlantic Aviation or Desert Jet Center. Taxis and rideshares are available as an alternate. You can arrange for car rentals through any of the FBOs.
FOOD
Unfortunately, there is no café at the airport but there are plenty of food options with a 15 minute drive.
This is the airport of choice for events at the Empire Polo Club, known for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival and The Thermal Club, the premier club for petrolheads, which is located south of the airport. So you'll see lots of large jets here. There are various resorts nearby highly recommended for a nice desert getaway.

I had the opportunity to maintain equipment in the FAA Flight Service Station and VOR at TRM in the 70s. TRM has always provided a unique service to pilots and been in the perfect location.
That sounds fascinating! Everytime I see a VOR I always wondered what it would take to maintain them. Especially now when so many are being shutdown and are mostly used as waypoints. You are definitely right about TRM Greg!
It's a great airport, does get very busy, need to keep your head on a swivel. The guys at Thermal Aviation are outstanding, very nice and willing to accommodate. Always helpful.

@@brohangohan1136 Thank you! My wife does all the filming and she uses all gopros. One of the settings is recording flat color and lowest sharpness. I add sharpness in the editing phase with a software, Davinci Resolve. Obviously much more to it but in general that is what we do.

Thanks for doing TRM! I overflew it for the first time last Monday, returning from my first flight to the Palm Springs area. Highly recommend you do a video about Bermuda Dunes, UDD where I flew into!
No problem Jeremy! Bermuda Dunes is definitely on our list. We almost went this day but because there is no transient parking there, we are waiting to go back when we spend the night. But we will definitely add that to our priority list now that you asked for it. 😁

One of those airports I never planned to fly to out of HHR back in the '80s and '90s, and never did. Back then it was not used very much compared to now. However I did test FS 2004 add-on scenery there.😀

Yes, HHR was always surreal to visiting pilots flying in parallel to the airliners on final! I learned to fly out of there, so I was so used to it. However, my dad (also my CFI) had to escort a student pilot in another C-150 to the field as he could not see the airport from Alondra Park and was afraid of getting close to the LAX final traffic. So we flew out to him and escorted him back to final. We talked to him afterwards, he was a foreign pilot from San Diego and never flew to the LA airspace before. In fact the rotating beacon at HHR was not installed properly and had a higher degree of "light angle" than it should have, according to one of the controllers I spoke to back then. I assume it is the same beacon that exists today.
