    The online book retailer was being celebrated as a local rival to the American giant, Amazon. It expanded rapidly but by the end of 2023, Booktopia was haemorrhaging millions of dollars.
    The publicly listed company's demise also highlights pressures on the entire book supply chain, impacting publishers through to bookstores.
