    Congratulations upon the incredible talents you've added to the HGV role's requirements.
    In the New Year, how bout some background to the many firms that have ceased training and how to secure wages when a firm closes....just a thought for a breadth of subjects beyond the driving?

    I actually think that the new changes in the UK a year ago were a good thing where you now do the reverse exercise test and emergency brake (part 3a) with the training school (not the examiner) and up to 6 months before you take the on road part of the test (part 3b) with the examiner. I would certainly take advantage of the new split test opportunity by doing the off road part (reverse ect) at least several days before coming back and then doing the new on road part of the test with the examiner. If you fail the reverse, you won't be failing the whole test because you now have to eventually pass the reverse part of the test before you can then do the on road test. Basically, part 3a test (reverse, emergency brake, couple uncouple) must now be passed before you can do part 3b on road test with the examiner up to 6 months later.

      That makes sense i guess, shows how long it was since i did my test i guess 😅

      @@truckitprayle I've been on the DVSA mailing list for many years so was aware of these changes some time ago. Why should you fail the whole test just because you screwed up on the reverse. That no longer happens although I hear that many driving schools still schedule the 2 test back to back on the same day. In reality, that means if you fail the reverse part, they then have to cancel the on road part of the test. Therefore, I would simply book them at least a couple of days apart in order to allow you time to possibly retake and pass the reverse test without needing to cancel the on road test. It also takes the pressure off the candidate having to pass both tests on the same day when they can be taken up to 6 months apart.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah that makes alot of sense doing it that way also you don't have that added stress of thinking about the reverse when your out on your drive.

      @@truckitprayle I'm very pragmatic and just because I had to do all of those different elements within the one test many years ago, doesn't mean that I don't see that some changes are for the better. Exactly why I believe that allowing car drivers to once again go straight from a car to Class 1 is a good thing. I never understood why since 1997, you had to then do a rigid test first but didn't actually need to gain any experience whatsoever in a rigid before then doing the Class 1. You could take the Class 1 test as soon as your rigid licence arrived back from the DVLA just days later. Having to do a Class 2 test before progressing to a Class 1 test really was just a money making scheme for the training industry if no experience was required before you progressed.

    Merry Christmas and another great video. I would say now you have to do the reverse before the driving test that's behind you and just focus on what your instructors have taught you. I passed 09/03/2022 first time and if I can do it then so can you. I was always told a good instructor will teach you to drive a HGV way above the standard the DVSA want to see on the test. That's so you get an allowance for nerves. Mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, I had a bad habit with the nearside mirror. Remember your blindspot before pulling away too. I got a minor for anticipation so be wary at roundabouts etc, always expect the unexpected. Don't have a big breakfast on test day, eat light and have plenty of fluid in you as it's true hydration boosts concentration. I didn't believe it but it's true. As mentioned in the video don't panic, the examiner wants to pass you. Just treat it like the mock tests you'll have been put through and you should be fine. And yes Mr Prayle I've forgotten a number plate and had to crawl under a trailer on a bay to get it back, filthy and not nice. You don't do it again :)

      @truckitprayle  8 місяців тому +1

      Argh so it seems they have changed a bit since i did mine, thats for letting me know.
      Do you think its better doing the reverse on a different day?

    • @TruckerMurdock
      @TruckerMurdock 8 місяців тому +1

      @@truckitprayle it certainly is. You have to pass the reverse test before you can do the onroad test, usually done at your training school. I'd say it kind of takes a little pressure off with one less thing to worry about. Plus you can fail the reverse multiple times but you do have to wait 24hrs for a retest if you fail however there's no extra cost for that like if you fail the onroad test.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  8 місяців тому

      Yeah that sounds so much better than what i had to do.

    • @TruckerMurdock

      @@truckitprayle how it worked at my training school was if you're on say 8 days going 7.5t to Class 1 the trainers try to get you through the reverse in the first 2-3days quickly followed by the CPC Mod 4 at the test centre so you kind of know it isn't as daunting as you think there with the examiners. Yeah it's less pressure but hey you still have nerves and where you used to be allowed 15 minors you're now allowed 12 and they're tighter on them so I'd say the test standard is pretty much equal to what it used to be.

    Great advice as always. I've been a Class 2 driver for 4years now and in 2 weeks time take my Class 1. Way more nervous about the whole thing this time but your video has made me a little better about things. Cheers pal, and keep up the good work on here for 2024.

    Mirror's mirror's and more mirror's......did i mention mirror's.🤣 And at roundabout when your looking for a gap don't look at the first car, look at the second, its better to get a minor for undue hesitency than to rush out thinking there's a gap that isn't there, that's a major and instant fail. just enjoy it, if you fail so what its all gathered experience.
    My reversing and uncoupling test was done seperately on a different day and by my training centre. My examiner on my practical test was a complete wanker, he wanted to fail me no doubt about it, i got one minor he actually looked mad when he passed me, i asked him from what you've seen what advice would you give me, he said why are you asking me....ask your instructor.....he was a complete bellend. So anyone taking their test at the Beverley test centre be careful.

    Wouldn't recomend this job at all for anybody. Money must be payd in accordance with our grade risks and health impact. People still think is good payd but they dont realise family, theyre time and lifestyle where is going on? Jail on wheels man. Quit few companyes after being pissed off waking up 3-4am in the night and payd rubbish, long hours and not enough pay, reach home saturday and monday start 4am, office staff usually always is 1 bastard messing around with drivers giving trouble. Better work some decent 8h a day otherwise is pointless to be the company robot at disposition. Actually working less than 10h a day with parcels at some company, not best pay and weird hours but sleep well and lets see for how long will last hope untill get my 60s jaja -- give a try to a small tiny company as a trucker im shure will be more respect and good threatment for you as a driver.
