The sequel isn't a true sequel. The writer basically wrote three scripts and they optioned two of them so the second one is just sort of another story. it's cool, but not as amazing. look into that a little bit to learn more.
15:57 Ed Calderon said that, when he completed training as a cop in Mexico, the first task he was given was "bring the bolt cutters," and he was excited because he thought he would be using them to cut to a lock off a door to bust in on a drug lab, but instead, he had to use them to cut the chains off of some bodies that were hung from a bridge. One of the veteran cops commented to him that the cartel that did it were being merciful, and when Carderon asked "How is this merciful?" the vet said "They're letting the families have the bodies to mourn over." That bodies and the vet's perspective were very eye opening for him.
It's crazy to believe that El Paso,Tx was given the award of safest city in the country, being right next door to a city that rivaled Chi Town as one of the most dangerous.
they were also merciful with the part that some causes of deaths were a bullet to the head, some get hanged or "showcased" in public with visible mutilation in the body, some even skinned completely and some headless. might as well guess those that deal with the cartel has one rule that states when caught by cartel just choose the easy way out before it's too late

One of my cousins in Chihuahua went missing for 2 months, the other day a random group of people found his head in the middle of the desert. They either use you as an intimidation tactic or make you disappear and it all depends on which cartel does it.
To this day one of my all time favorite movies. Everything from the border scene on the thruway, to the way that Denis handles the dialouge and tension of each scene, to even the INCREDIBLE cinematography that shows that shooting on location makes everything look better and more cinematic. 2016 really was the year for incredible cinematography given The Revenant is what beat Sicario out.🙏
The difference is that Nolan's exposition is way faster and I can give tens of examples where people I know wouldn't watch Denis movies because they are too long...
This movie is part of The Frontier Trilogy. The others are Hell or High Water and Wind River. They are not connected to each other, and you can watch them in any order. You should consider watching them.
Reminds me of Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy (All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing & Cities on the Plain). FWIW All the Pretty Horses may be the most popular of the three novels, but The Crossing is by far my personal favorite of the three.

Its worth a serious watch. I had the pleasure of watching it in an empty theater(i was living in a small town), truly an experience ill never forget.
One of my professors I've had since I started film school was a producer on this movie. The level of planning that went into the Jaures border crossing scene to get the brother was insane. I got to see the hundreds of story boards that went with just that scene as well
Bro, cinematography, story line, performances and action aside, the signature score to this movie and the sequel literally give me chills every time I hear it..even got it on Spotify lol freakin crazy…
The sequel, "Sicario: Day of the Soldado," has good action sequences, good cinematography and good acting (particularly by Isabela Merced), and the turns the principle characters take are interesting. However, the story that's presented on screen doesn't support the character changes very convincingly - to use the vernacular, they seem "unearned." It makes me wonder if there was more character development that ended up on the cutting room floor. Even with this criticism, it's a film worth watching.

Like the toruture scene here. You listen to what happens and imagine what Alejandro was doing to the prisioner. Villeneuve is my favorite director today.
This movie is chilling not just for the darkness and gore, but for the realism. It gave average people a glimpse into the absolute brutality and lack of respect for life that exists in the Mexican cartels and the drug trade. The crazy thing is that this is relatively mild compared to the actual torture, death, and depravity that exists around the border.
Greig Fraser was the cinematographer for "Dune" (he did "The Creator," "Rogue One" & "The Batman" too, amongst others). Training + Experience for sure but only a few of us will still be able to keep a cool head in situations like that. What you need is a certain level of.... apathy. You could say 'mental issues' are helpful for military roles. You have to have such a degree of apathy that you can essentially pretend to not be afraid or pretend to ignore what's going on. My experience with such things is through a traumatic attack on the streets and various altercations throughout life since then. You can really train as much as you want but nothing prepares you for the micro-differences, for the situational differences of a real encounter. When it starts to kick off and you feel that zing of adrenaline, that surge of fear, you really h ave to CONTROL your own state of mind to stay cool through that.

Omg, SICARIO, the real True Detective season 2 in 2015
Training + Experience for sure but only a few of us will still be able to keep a cool head in situations like that.
