Man on Fire certainly did something similar a few years earlier. Denzel Washington, former CIA, now bodyguard to a 9 year old girl, she gets kidnapped he goes on a revenge spree.
No, there were many films before this which tried to go for the idea of "man with particular set of skills" goes on a hunt for kidnappers/killers of a loved one... But what Taken did, was bring a sort of grounding to the whole theme, and kinda depicted what the real world human trafficking looks like... The tourist guide traps, the lone travelers being targeted, girls being sold openly on black market, etc. Plus Liam really nailed the retired CIA operative part... He didn't use larger than life action to hunt his opponents down, but actual strategy and will power... Really great film, and its a must watch for the younger generation to make them aware of the harsh realities of the world... Even tho internet is everywhere, u still need to keep in mind that these businesses still exist, and u are very responsible for ur own safety...
When he sits there and cries and tells him to please don't at the end. This is just reflection of everything those girls went through when they are probably saying the same thing to those men
Its the directors cut or uncensored version of the movie, I think it was going to be rated R if they tried to keep the nails in the theatrical release which they didnt want.
I only saw the unrated version (which I didn’t know it was until afterwards), so I didn’t know there was an alternate scene until I saw a clip of it on UA-cam years later. I changed the whole feel of the scene.
As an electrician I can vouch that shit hurts so bad your brain can barely register it. Low voltage for extended time is way worse than higher voltage, you can't really feel high voltage until after it stops.
He has those nails in his thighs, and the electricity would have traveled from one to the other via the shortest route. Every last volt was going through his pelvis, and all the equipment associated with it.
@@ReactTV1 Also consider that he most likely drove those nails right into his thigh bones, so that power is cooking the marrow out of them and he's feeling every bit of that too.
The human body is 50-70% water. Blood is made up of 90% water. We have blood from the toes all the way to the brain and you all know that water and electricity get along VERY well. This is one of the most effective torture scenes ever made.
I love how most reactors give zero effs for this guy’s pain because he’s a trafficker. I personally hate torture scenes unless the “victim” is evil. Then I could watch that all day 😁
Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, and a few more fellows: who'd have thought of each of them as action heroes earlier in their careers? They do a damn good job in the new role!
I watched a documentary with some delta force people who were there for the operation that the movie Black Hawk Down portrayed. The Delta Force guy was all blacked out so you couldn’t see him. The interviewer was asking whether or not it was true that special forces were trained to not give away info under torture. He said, “We tell our guys, look, if you’re captured, talk…it’s not worth seeing how tough you are. Your team knows you’re captured and have already changed plans…if they haven’t, then they aren’t that special of forces.” The interviewer asked about all the stories that POW’s have told about the horrific tortures they endured but never cracked. Delta Force said, “I’m not saying they those men didn’t endure unspeakable tortures and still didn’t give away any vital information. The human mind is a powerful thing and there are some tough individuals who can handle a lot of pain…I’m saying if your team is really that elite, the moment they know you’ve been captured, they should be changing to a back-up plan, so just tell what you know, because that info is no longer valid. Unfortunately if the info you gave is no longer a part of the mission, it’s possible the enemy could perceive that as you lied and that’s where the horrific torture comes into play.” The interviewer asked about methods Delta Force would use to extract information. Delta Force said, “I’m not at liberty to divulge that kind of info, but even if you have a vivid imagination, you probably still couldn’t fathom all the different methods that have been used to get info. None of that really matters though…there’s no one alive who could handle 220v hooked up to their balls. Most would talk before the switch was even thrown…a few might be able to hold out for one go around, maybe two, but no one’s ever held out longer than that.”
Electricity takes the shortest path through the body, which when you touch two electrical conductors with your hands, the path of the current goes from one hand, through your chest and back to the other hand. In this case, the current travels up the leg, through the crotch, and back down to the other leg. It's just a guess, but his testicles were probably smoldering for an hour after they shut down the power.
Over here in the USA we run 100v to the homes. I spent 3 years in Germany and Europe most every where uses 220 volts. I've been hit with a brief dose of 110v but I wonder if 220volts hurts more. NO I don't want to try it and see ! !
When i first saw this i thought he was “bone scrapping” where they stab you in the thigh to the bone and scrap it across the bone. Anyway what are some of y’all’s hobbies?
Reading some comments...Liam Neesons character was going to kill him after he gave the information. Liam Neesons character was operating in France and what he did/doing is illegal anyway.

"Turning off for lack of payment on the bill"
That is the coldest threat ever..
That wasn't a threat but a garuantee
Arguably the most satisfying scene a man and a father can ever see.
I honestly think Taken laid the ground work for movies such as john wick, eqaulizer, and even nobody
I like Taken and Equalizer and John Wick

Mission impossible? Borne?
the equalizer was a tv show in the 80s
This scene is the definition of the punishment fitting the crime.
When he sits there and cries and tells him to please don't at the end. This is just reflection of everything those girls went through when they are probably saying the same thing to those men
He did promise three things to this man. He looked for him and he did find him. There was only one promise left.
Well, he is not gonna last even 30 minutes with that. He kills him with the most painful death here.
@@martinqizeaq 30 minutes is too short. 30 years might be better
The actor playing the human trafficker is incredible!
Yeah he really sells it
@@Kragar01- Especially the desperate begging at the end. Convincing enough to _almost_ feel sorry for him.
One of the best FAFO scenes in history.
It really bugged me when I found out that there’s two versions of this scene.
It should always be the nails.
Its the directors cut or uncensored version of the movie, I think it was going to be rated R if they tried to keep the nails in the theatrical release which they didnt want.
Nail version is 100% better.
Agreed. The nails is just so much better

There was a parody video made from this scene awhile ago, some guy took this scene and used it to advertise the reliability of "Paris Electric"
He has those nails in his thighs, and the electricity would have traveled from one to the other via the shortest route. Every last volt was going through his pelvis, and all the equipment associated with it.
I didn't even think of that, his nuts would be fried 🤣
Deserved
A sparky? Nice to know. I thought he just got fried from the ground up. That makes it even better. Thanks for the instructio... I meant "info" 😈🤣
@@ReactTV1 Also consider that he most likely drove those nails right into his thigh bones, so that power is cooking the marrow out of them and he's feeling every bit of that too.
I see a recurring theme here. Guys are like: "Hell YEA", ladies are like: "I'm glad he's getting his, but I can't watch".
Taking the tie off is a baaaaaad sign.
By then he is really going to work

This and the scene before are good for his skill and determination, but it is the next one showing his ruthlessness that is my favorite.
It's scenes like this that really lend some credence to the phrase "Death is a release, not a punishment."
I love how most reactors give zero effs for this guy’s pain because he’s a trafficker.
I personally hate torture scenes unless the “victim” is evil.

Can you possibly do the death of Patrice st Claire? When Brian (Neeson) shoots him in the elevator and tells him it's all personal to me?
Coming tomorrow morning
@ReactTV you should do Law Abiding Citizen.
1. Darbys torture scene
2. DVD delivery
3. Judges phone call.
Even though I know it's coming, and when. . . #3 still gets me to jump in surprise. LAC is such a great movie.
All 3 coming out today!

“I am federal police, you can’t touch me”
So which is worse?
A) "I believe you, but it's not going to save you!"
B) "I know, Rick. I know you did. But let's pretend you didn't!"
That guy had his chance to let go of Bryan’s daughter and now he died a painful death.
Bryan was going to kill him anyway, once he got the information.
@ true.
Marco is really selling that scene by whatever he's doing to make the veins in his neck stand out like that.

*This scene is very shocking!*
The most shocking part of the story was that his daughter was still a virgin despite the company she kept.

Too bad the sequels completely forgot what made the first one so good.
