Thanks for the video! Funny enough I did one on fixing misbehaving Ahabs the other day. A couple of things: the complaints regarding its distinctive smell are about its barrel/section/cap material, but I have never found the smell to be objectionably strong though. From the video, I cannot tell if the piston seal inside the syringe is a regular round-section O-ring, or a grooved double-seal type. The former type was used in the first release version: it exerts a lot of pressure on the inside wall of the syringe. The double-seal type came out soon afterwards and is a great improvement; if yours is of the early type, I would definitely recommend an upgrade.
Wow I did not know that. My one looks to be the a syringe style double sealer rather than an o ring. It would be a shame if mine was a older one because it would be pretty hard to find spare parts locally. That being said I'd just wait till it wore out then make it an eyedropper :)
Many, many, many years. If it stays in a climate controlled environment, isn’t buried in a compost heap. It will still be around long after we are gone. Vegetal resin isn’t a new thing. It’s been around for a long time. Amber is a type of vegetal resin and is technically biodegradable. So the Noodler’s pens are sort of biodegradable. More so than typical plastics.
Apache Sunset is a notoriously slow drying ink that smears for days when put down too generously. I have no problems using Ahab on a daily basis with inks like Waterman, Parker or ones that I know don't suffer from dry smear.
Cheers, i could tell that it was a very wet ink. That coupled with the wet feed must have caused that insane dry time. Thoug I switched the ink out for pelikan 4001 and it is still too wet for my regular paper, it bleeds so much
Its Pelikan 4001 turquoise, really cheap and great ink, in fact its the ink I use for every day writing if I'm not using Black. That being said most turquoise inks looks the same :)
Have you tried customizing the nib if you did can you please make a video of it I really enjoyed the video and it’s nice when younger people are into the beautiful craft of writing I myself aren’t to old yet but it saddens me to know schools don’t teach cursive anymore
Thankyou for watching. I'm always thinking of DIY ideas and if I ever find a way to do a custom nib id certainly do a video on it :) Also I might be able to do some alright cursive, but nothing can ever match the handwriting (copperplate) of my great grandfather. They don't teach cursive like they used to
JPL It must have been a beautiful experience getting to know your grandfathers work. Maybe you can one day make a video on it I think everyone would enjoy watching it. I think is so admirable what you do with teaching your skills and knowledge to others. I believe for the rare souls out there your channel can guide them to learning and not letting go of the history of hand lettering. Here in New York most schools don’t even care about kids basic penmanship everything is typed up after kids reach 3rd grade.
Noodler's was how I turned from a fountain pen user to a fountain pen collector. It was a little disappointing as I expanded to discover most pens were not flex. One thing I did with another Noodler's pen was to use it with a dip pen nib. I was able to heat set the ebonite feed to it. Of course, those nibs rust as I soon discovered!
It is a shame that more pens aren't flex pens, I'm not asking for crazy vintage flex but lamy and pilot (metro, 78g, prera) nibs are pretty pathetic in the flex game. I'm going to replace the noodler's nib with a zebra G to see how much flex I can get with it, so thanks for the heads up about the rust.
it's a Indian manufactured pen, all noodlers pen are made in india, from scratch. the nib is a Indian F that writes F-M. also, try using the regular nib on a noodlers pen. it's #35mm nib. buy nib from goulet. the experience is going to be a bit more better.
Someone needs to test the Ahab on Watercolor paper--cold press. Seems perfect for sketching because of big capacity. Personally I want to know before I buy one. know yet.
I was just surfing on youtube when i watched this vid: ua-cam.com/video/SjKPMcjyWMM/v-deo.html This is a video in which the youtuber has make a plastic nib using a disposable coke or soda bottle , The nib flexes like a contortionist, Have you ever tried this, If so kindly suggest you experience and maybe even make a video, Regards.

JPL, I bought a pair from Goulet some time ago, they come in pairs and quite inexpensive.
The neat thing is the smell comes from it being a vegetable base resin and it will biodegrade in many years. Nathan Tardif is pure genius!

Keeps on saying it has unpleasant smell but keeps on smelling the pen haha
They are manufactured by the Indian brand for Noodlers called Kanwrite(Maybe for Kanpur Writers). Some info.
What is the name of the blue ink that you used? I kind of like it.
Its Pelikan 4001 turquoise, really cheap and great ink, in fact its the ink I use for every day writing if I'm not using Black. That being said most turquoise inks looks the same :)

There are titanium ones that last substantially longer (purportedly), might try those ;)
Do you have an update video on Zebra G in Noodler's Ahab?
Nooder's?
Simon Barnsley it's a pen you use to send letters to someone and request noodz
Thiago Medeiros
Haha nice comeback. 😂
Simon Barnsley If you dig some fountain pen humor and are on Instagram, follow @fountainpenmemes !
Thiago Medeiros I'll check it out. Thanks.
hehe was not disappointed
Well done. I like your video.
My Ahab never had an odor, but it has a severe leaking problem.
If you adjust the ebonite and the nib to loose inside the feeder the pen leaks.
mijne has a smell but i like it :)
@Shmijda i dont know if it has something to do with age but i like the smell.
@Shmijda did you try cleaning it with water and diahwashing liquid? Im no fountain pen pro (i only have a x750) but that should do the trick i think

Hahhahahahahaha. What a stupid comment and a stupid commenter.
I just put the G nib in the Ahab.
Deepen the channel, and it keeps up much better than jinhaos.
Nice job JPL, or as you might say "brilliant."
Thanks, absolutely brilliant pens and the ink. Shades like crazy XD
Are you ever coming back?! I’ll let you stroke my beard.
I hope you and your family and friends are safe. Keep us posted.
Great review thank you.👍 ordering one for sure. And I'll make sure not to smell it lol
*Vintage =? Wet Noodle*
*Modern =! Not Really Wet Noodle*
