- InThis video I’ll discuss the different ways to get started in the industrial maintenance technician field. There are several ways that you can make yourself qualified for these types of jobs.
Im currently a mechanic apprentice at Smithfield foods and i love it. They pay for my schooling which will get me an A.S. in mechatronics and pay me to go to school like its a regular work day. I also get a journeyman’s license out of it when i finish the program to with an aim at becoming a supervisor here. I can say that i genuinely love my job and look forward to coming in each day. This video made is super valid point especially with OT point. Its good field to get into if you dont mind working over 40hrs/week and getting dirty. Nothing is better than working hard for your money to me so i love it.

I’m about to go to school for Toyota industrial maintenance. I’m am currently full time at Toyota in Georgetown kentucky (tmmk) so I’m on the assembly line and it’s kinda breaking my body down and I’m 23 years old. So maintenance is definitely something I wanna do and be able to enjoy life. I’m making $25 a hour and it’s all good In all but maintenance makes a hell of a lot more than I’d be making if I just stayed on the assembly line. And it’s a 3 year top out also once I’m in. I’ve always enjoyed fixing things and definitely wanna do that till I retire.
It’s an amazing field to be in for sure. The work can be hard, I’m 39 and yesterday I had to carry 120 pound electric motor up 15 stairs and then about 200 foot and then installing a hydraulic unit. That same day I was also 14 foot in the air replacing a bunch of hard piping.
I am in the 5th week of a 22 week Industrial Maintenance Technician (Mechatronics) certification program at my local community college, Valencia, and I am very excited for the future. People can also check with their local unemployment office for school funding/grants. I am in Orlando, FL and Career Source (our unemployment office) is paying for my certification program and will also assist with job placement if needed. Thank you for your videos, they do help.

I took the and program and have been working for the last 6 months. How have you adjusted to the field? I’m having a really hard time coming from the same program.

During that schooling are there any paychecks? Or do I have to plan and save for this period of training without pay? Or is the schooling just a few hours where I can keep my day time job as well?
@PartyyKyle worst case you should be able to work and attend school at the same time you’ll have no free time while attending those classes but it’ll all pay off. Best case some employers offer programs where you get paid while you learn at a lower pay rate and once the program is completed you go to the regular technicians pay rate. All depends on the employers in your area.
I went to school for HVAC recently and because of that certificate on my resume i got offers from industrial maintenance companies which im starting Monday thanks for the video

@@dewaynegray8958 I just graduated from a HVaC program and was offered a job also... I'm in the welding and pipefitting class now which is 7 months and I'll get a $2 raise after graduation... Making $28 now... Love it!

I was recently a Supervisor for a company but I educated myself on everything they had by buying the manuals. It's good money if you can get in the door. I've worked 90 hours a week for months but my area don't pay nearly as much as other areas .
Definitely a great field to be in. And like you said OT is usually available for those who will work it.

Make sure there are employment opportunities in your area and then go through a certification program if you have absolutely no experience. That is my recommendation.
I’m currently a precision machining cnc operator, and am currently being switched to industrial maintenance. Anything I should know?
Safety first and it’s a good idea to take pics when dissembling things since they don’t come with instructions to put them back together 😂. Seriously be safe and you’ll learn everything you need from senior techs, & one day you’ll be the senior tech!

@@outsidewithjeff yea I’m about to just get my technical degree because the college I’m at have the students who want the Associates degree taking classes like College Algebra Physical science/Physical Science Labs crazy classes you don’t need in the field

@@outsidewithjeff allot of people don’t know that Industrial maintenance is basically a Millwright lol
We have about 350 maintenance technicians, we also have about 50 Union millwrights that work in our facility
trying to switch from apartment maintenance to industrial
It’s an amazing career, I’m on day 340 and it’s something new almost every single day.
I just switched from apartment maintenance to industrial at frito lay it’s a lot so far
They are definitely like night and day, I used to have 5 rentals and that type of maintenance is definitely not like industrial maintenance but industrial will make you a much better living and career if you can stick with it.
Apartment Maintenance doesn't translate to industrial Maintenance but just become a sponge. Every day is something different. I love it

Yes it’s an amazing career with excellent earning potential.
What's your typical work week look like? Hours? Shifts? 90k/yr at 40-50 hours/wk = great. 90k/yr at 50+hours/wk = considerably less great.
90k at 50hr week
I worked 56 last week 52 this week
I would say every facility had different shifts ours has 5
A 11-7
B 7-3
C 3-11
D 11a-11p
E 11p-11a
