    Kirk Barton made a good observation. Chip Kelly's simple but confusing scheme kept WM's d-line hesitant and on their heels just about the whole game which allowed our O-line to more easily establish and maintain leverage in zone blocking plays. If Kelly can continue to set the stage like this, it will not matter so much who the opponent is.

      He will be another great talent at OSU, just like those before him, that Ryan Day will squander.

    100% on letting backups play. It was only because Chip! Press conference after game Day apologies to WMU and talks about respecting your opponent. Let the backups play. They work hard all year too.

    • @Andy-AJC72
      @Andy-AJC72 2 місяці тому

      I didn’t hear that in the press conference. I heard Day say that his intent was not to disrespect opponents, but that he wants the backups to get experience and run the offense. Day is fully on board with playing the backups and running the full offense. Perhaps that’s Chip’s influence, perhaps we are simply looking at a much more aggressive Day, forged by past experience.

    Sleeping on Marv a bit bc how bad the chemistry/connection between him and McCord were in that last year. I think McCords time at QB skewed our perception of what our WR room was last year.

      I’m not saying JJ is not better than MHJ but I gotta see JJ make the Gumby catch vs Indiana or a one handed grab with Will Johnson draped all over him or the diving catch with the game on the line vs ND on one leg. He took over the peach bowl. MHJ just has too many memories for JJ to jump him in 2 non competitive games

    So is Jeremiah Smith just going to be the best WR in Ohio State history and perhaps CFB history and we just get to witness that for three years unless they change the rules? I'm cool with that.

    I'm so happy that Doug said brought up Ted Ginn Jr. because there is something about JJ that reminds me of Teddy, maybe the speed and running style?. All the freshman this year's Freshman Class across the board Across the nation they've all been popping 1 of the best recruiting classes ever.

    Doug, your targeting stance would hold more water about Denzel if Denzel hadn’t been pushed into the runner by the wide receiver. I don’t know how you fall without dropping your head, especially when you already have momentum from running and then get pushed in the back (block in the back) which you can clearly see on the replay. There was nothing egregious about Denzel getting pushed into the runner. It’s almost like they’re overcorrecting for decades worth of targeting hits.

  • @MegaSlowe

    I wouldn't be surprised to find out the reason Jordan Hancock only played 25 snaps is because he should be evaluated for a concussion. He made a tackle on a WMU player that was a hard collision, and Hancock initially fell back with arms upraised, classic head shot reaction. He definitely had his bell rung at the very least. We'll see, but I definitely noticed that.

    Having the backups actually play It is great. I don't know about others but if I see it is a blow out I switch channels to watch other game I can catch any late scores on highlights due to the way Day ran the game.
    Woody when he put in the reserves in he put them in to play not play out the string.
    That tells my age a little.
    As for the targeting call yea he lowered his head but he was leading with his shoulder, and if you watch the RB lowered his head 1st and lead into him so who if it was targeting, who was the targeter and who was the targetee?

    Here's my take on Marv vs. JJ. While I would say that Marv was a better route runner/tracker of the ball (with only 2 games of reference for JJ) he wasn't a huge home run threat. I don't think he ever took a 5 yard hitch and turned it into a 70 yard TD. And, while he was the best pure receiver we've ever had at Ohio State, he was an abysmal blocker and you could always tell when the play wasn't designed for him because he would simply take those plays off. So far, I've not seen those flaws with JJ. And I think we've seen enough of his hands/ball tracking/athletic ability to see that he can, at the very least, be AS good as MHJ. As such, I would probably take JJ.

    It’s funny to me that people say OSU bought their team when it has been happening since NIL became a thing (TAMU for instance). I think people are just mad because NIL is actually working for us. We didn’t just spend a bunch of money and make nothing of it like others have.

Smith blocks Marv didn't or wouldn't and his blocking has effected the whole group because Kelly supposedly RIPPED hartline because the wideouts weren't blocking in spring practice. Chip made it crystal clear... block or you wont see the field. Reese MUST be an active part of the rotation this defense is just dEEP and Good
