Bloodiest, most poetically violent match ever Sgt. Slaughter vs. Pat Patterson at MSG/ Bob Backlund also headlines the wrestling card facing Angelo King Kong Mosca/ This is the grittiest, most thrilling professional wrestling action/ Unforgettably Fabulous '80s era/
Angelo was from Boston. Went to Notre Dame. Became one of the greatest players in the history of the Canadian Football League. Played for the Hamilton Tiger Cats......I don't know why he didn't play in the NFL? Perhaps some injury. Was a great pro wrestler also......Super interview.......Incredible ring presence!!!.......Perhaps a Canadian Ernie Ladd????
WWF @ New York City, NY - Madison Square Garden - May 4, 1981 (near capacity) Televised on the MSG Network - featured Vince McMahon on commentary; prior to the show, it was announced to the crowd Andre the Giant had sustained a broken ankle: SD Jones defeated Johnny Rodz at 15:36 Yoshiaki Yatsu defeated the Hangman at 10:31; the bout was originally scheduled for Yatsu & Antonio Inoki vs. Hangman & Frank Savage Dominic DeNucci pinned Baron Mikel Scicluna at 6:53 with a backslide Peter Maivia pinned Rick McGraw at 7:08 with a backbreaker (Maivia’s final MSG appearance) Angelo Mosca defeated WWF World Champion Bob Backlund via disqualification at 13:51 when Backlund accidentally punched the referee when Mosca ducked the blow; after the bout, Mosca ran backstage with the title belt (Mosca’s MSG debut) Pat Patterson defeated Sgt. Slaughter (w/ the Grand Wizard) in an alley fight at 14:25 when the Grand Wizard, who escorted Slaughter to the ring before the match, returned ringside and threw in the towel after Slaughter had been beaten a bloody mess; voted Match of the Year by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WWE Hall of Fame 2004, Falls Count Anywhere: The Greatest Street Fights and other Out of Control Matches) Tony Garea, Rick Martel, & Gorilla Monsoon (sub. for Andre the Giant) defeated Stan Hansen, WWF Tag Team Champion Moondog Rex, & Capt. Lou Albano (sub. for Moondog King) in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match at 14:01, 2-0; fall #1: Monsoon’s team won via disqualification at 11:39 when all three heels began attacking Martel; fall #2: Monsoon pinned Rex at 2:22 with a splash (Hansen’s final MSG appearance; Monsoon’s final MSG appearance as a wrestler) The Carolina Kid & Farmer Jerome defeated Sky Low Low & Kid Chocolate at 11:23 when Carolina pinned Chocolate following an airplane spin WWF IC Champion Pedro Morales defeated Killer Khan at 4:26 (this match was not televised)
I seem to recall that the DeNucci-Baron Scicluna match was a Maltese Death Match. It was a return match from Long Island the previous month and Lou Albano was banned from ringside.
I was in attendance for this historic card at MSG; the match between Patterson and Slaughter was indeed a classic, probably one of the top matches in WWF/WWWF history. If memory serves me correctly, Gorilla Monsoon came out of retirement for this three-man tag team match. In reality, it was more like three versus two because Lou Albano kept fleeing at the first hint of trouble. Quite appropriately, Gorilla put the cherry on top of a legendary career, securing the win for his team, by splashing Moondog Rex for the finishing move and pin in much the same way Rex's regular partner King always did when he finished off an opponent.
Here are the results from this card Pedro and Killer Khan wrested to a 20-minute draw. The Moondogs and Stan Hansen defeated Tony Garea, Rick Martel, and Andre when Spot pinned Garea. Sgt. Slaughter defeated Pat Patterson with the Cobra Clutch. King Kong Mosca defeated Bob Backlund by countout. Dominic DeNucci defeated Butcher Vachon using a Boston Crab.
Backlund's promos during this era is a cure for insomnia

Mosca looked scary.
Great heel.
Slaughter and the grand wizard were so cool together.
For a split second, I thought McMahon said Bulldogs, not Moondogs, remembering how Albano also managed them, in the mid 80's.
both sargaent slaughter and angelo mosca would become babyfaces a few years later
it’s good to see they put the dagos together.
Bob Backlund 🎤 skills no match for his ring skills‼️
i wonder how the grand wizard would of been used in the mid 80s had he not passed away!!!!
Lou was jamed up hard.
Battle of Tokyo, King Kong Mosca vs. King Kong Bundy.
if the wizard had lived, i wonder if he would of sided with sargaent slaughter in 84 when he became a babyface against the sheik!!
God the Backlund interview is terrible
the boring prehogan days of wrestling!!!
