What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows and Suho controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. You see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc. X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are battling for control. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc. Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 8 years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-sub-unit MVs and a majority of the member's solo MVs. And because Baekhyun and Kai are involved, even SuperM's storyline -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story and why they are on Earth, etc. To truly understand EXO you need to understand that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and It is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept. So to really understand EXO you need to start from the very beginning and watch both of their "Mama" MVs. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. EXO's concept is also connected to real life planetary and solar events so several of EXO's comebacks and new song releases for the main group of EXO are timed to when eclipses and other planetary phenomenons take place. For example, their comeback for their War album and Power repackaged album coincided with when we had a solar eclipse, etc. SM Entertainment, and its founder, Lee SooMan, has all of EXO's release dates and concepts planned out for years in advance, and it often has something to do with real celestial events that are predicted to take place. Now you also need to know that In the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO- M version focuses on the M members and their powers. However, since then, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 of the members. Kris and Luhan left in 2014 and Tao left in 2015.) However, now, because they no longer have enough Chinese members they no longer do separate promotions, but they still produce almost all of their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group EXO with 9 members. However, in the "Obsession" MV there are only 6 members -- Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun -- because 2 of the members -- D.O. and Xiumin -- are on hiatus during this comeback as they serve in the military; and due to the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government, Lay -- their Chinese member -- was unable to participate in activities with the group. So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. However, the introduction of "Obsession's" part of the story really threw all of our theories for a loop and it has made us question everything we have ever thought was happening in EXO's storyline. Since "Obsession" some think maybe EXO has been trapped somewhere from the very beginning and it has been X-EXO that we have been following all along. But I think it's still even more complex than that. I think at times we have been watching EXO and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovering that it hasn't necessarily been EXO the whole time. With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside the window as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV. Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's "Jopping" storyline. If you have seen "Jopping," you may remember what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in that MV. Those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in "Obsession." Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs. So because the members in black are supposed to be the EXO members who are the good guys, it seems to also indicate that the members who are in SuperM are the EXO members and not their X-EXO clones. So it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, EXO has gathered the best of the best of SM's groups to help them battle the Red Force and maybe eventually take down X-EXO. Just like how the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force. Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we as EXO-L (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, song lyrics, albums, concert VCRs, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all. To help you pinpoint the powers being used in their MVs and live performances here is a list of the members and what their special power is. EXO-K 💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho) 💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light 🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire an.d his spirit animal is the phoenix. 🌏D.O. I cannot agree more with you. Not because I am an EXO fan but because this album just hits too hard. Not too long ago my favourite EXO's album was their 2017's project 'The War: The Power of Music' which I thought they would never top and then their 2018's album came and took it. But this one though... they always topping themselves, slaps too hard.

i saw a lot of people explained the concept already but lemme explain it to you with MV references so it's easier to follow :) Yes, EXO has been maintaining their storyline since pre debut (What is Love and History MV). All EXO members are from the EXOPLANET and with superpowers (MAMA MV, their debut song). They nurtured the Tree of Life which is also in the MAMA MV, the whole intro. They all came to earth to defeat the Red Force (bad) which they kinda mentioned in their MAMA song. Here's the lyrics: "Your Majesty! Now answer me , why people have changed? Has there even been a beautiful time before? They forgot how to love and lost their heart to care. They’re busy living with their backs turned." The Red Force is our inner demons, the reason why we changed. Basically they came to earth to teach us to be good again lol but upon entering the earth, one of their members got possessed by the Red Force (Wolf Drama, a 2-part teaser for their Wolf MV). In this Wolf series, they revealed that only love can purify a person. After defeating the Red Force in that chapter, EXO continued but were trapped in a maze (Overdose MV). Kai was able to escape since he can teleport. Basically they all got out of the maze and ended up in different cities around the world (EXODUS teasers for Call Me Baby MV, this MV has nothing to do w/ the plot lol just its teasers). Let's say they were able to defeat the Red Force in certain battles but not completely. The government (actual humans) interrupted them from defeating the force completely as they got captured (Monster MV). The government has been monitoring the members and their unknown powers and find this as a threat to humans. At a point of their journey they got contaminated by the Red Force, meaning they kinda went bad and drugged (KokoBop MV for drugged and Lotto for gambling). After this, we found out that the Red Force was able to get their powers. How? Prolly when they were drugged and they were in this hospital-like facility (Lucky One MV). Anw, they got out again and was able to get their powers back (Power MV and Lay's Namanana MV). In 2018, the members still continued in defeating the Red Force but this whole 2018 era is actually a hint of their 2019 MV plot which is this Obsession MV. In the 2018 Tempo MV, there's this robotic voice in the song and Chanyeol was being interrogated by Chen. I made a theory before that Chanyeol was possessed by the Red Force that year and that's because 1. he has the "eye", his eyes were different and 2. he was the ONLY member who have a different hair color. All of the other members changed their hair colors back to EXODUS era (a year when all of them are the real EXO and now Chanyeol isn't one of them). This means Chanyeol was the first one to be possessed AGAIN! Why? Remember the 1st member that got possessed upon entering the earth? That was Kris, he's a dragon and his counterpart in the group is Chanyeol, a phoenix. Kris tried converting Luhan to the Red Force but failed because of Love, remember? we learned in their Wolf series that only love can purify the person. And because of this, Kris probably found another member he can trust and that was Chanyeol. Chanyeol successfully gave in himself and his other members to the Red Force which is why we are here watching this Obsession MV. We are now actually seeing them battling the actual Red Force, our inner demons. I'm sure one of them will succeed with the help of Lay (his power is healing, he is inactive in the group now but kinda made sense in the plot too lmao without him, the members have to find their own way to purify themselves). I actually believe Lay is the answer or the love coming from us or within. This is always their hint: Beginning = End, End = Beginning. I hope you understood on top of my bad english grammar lmao Edit: i forgot to tell that Chen, the dude in the cctv room, is the same person who interrogated Chanyeol. This is the good Chen, trying to figure out the behavior of his members, starting with Chanyeol but you also saw that the X-Chen was also in the same room.

Of all of EXO’s songs, this stuck out to me the most.Its such a calculated masterpiece- the story, placement everything. It’s a slowburn. Each time you listen to it you fall deeper into it, experience renewed each time, the high only more exhilarating. It got me begging for more like a starved crack addict when id only had a whiff of it and for a song to do that...well, it’s superior.i must have saved an empire in my past life to have been able to exist in the same time period as exo in this life. i said what i said. ✌🏽
You really can't tell EXO's narrative from just one MV because most-- if not all-- of their MVs are interconnected in a multi-universe (universe as in space because they're supposed to be aliens, and universe as in an alternate reality because according to one of their MVs there are alternate parallel timelines) storyline that even includes their debut and comeback teasers and predebut releases. And the storytelling isn't chronological. The predebut and debut MVs are situated _in medias res_ in two? three? possibly directly parallel universes while the subsequent MVs jump to other universes in differing time periods, so you really need to look for the little Easter eggs and common symbolism in the MVs to be able to piece out which belong to which universe and where they're situated in their respective timelines. Fans have been trying to put together this gigantic puzzle since debut and EXO is the gift that keeps on giving because until now they're still feeding into that narrative, and they always put in more effort in making the comebacks as interactive for the fans as possible, by having fans unlock puzzles to get the teaser release schedules, having to use language translation programs to get clues, having to scour videos for hints, and opening new social media for concepts. Really, if you're not a fan of EXO yet, it's really worth giving them a shot, it will really get your mind working.

What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows and Suho controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. You see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc.
X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are battling for control. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc.
Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 8 years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-sub-unit MVs and a majority of the member's solo MVs. And because Baekhyun and Kai are involved, even SuperM's storyline -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story and why they are on Earth, etc.
To truly understand EXO you need to understand that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and It is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept. So to really understand EXO you need to start from the very beginning and watch both of their "Mama" MVs. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers.
Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. EXO's concept is also connected to real life planetary and solar events so several of EXO's comebacks and new song releases for the main group of EXO are timed to when eclipses and other planetary phenomenons take place. For example, their comeback for their War album and Power repackaged album coincided with when we had a solar eclipse, etc. SM Entertainment, and its founder, Lee SooMan, has all of EXO's release dates and concepts planned out for years in advance, and it often has something to do with real celestial events that are predicted to take place.
Now you also need to know that In the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO- M version focuses on the M members and their powers.
However, since then, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 of the members. Kris and Luhan left in 2014 and Tao left in 2015.) However, now, because they no longer have enough Chinese members they no longer do separate promotions, but they still produce almost all of their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group EXO with 9 members. However, in the "Obsession" MV there are only 6 members -- Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun -- because 2 of the members -- D.O. and Xiumin -- are on hiatus during this comeback as they serve in the military; and due to the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government, Lay -- their Chinese member -- was unable to participate in activities with the group.
So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. However, the introduction of "Obsession's" part of the story really threw all of our theories for a loop and it has made us question everything we have ever thought was happening in EXO's storyline. Since "Obsession" some think maybe EXO has been trapped somewhere from the very beginning and it has been X-EXO that we have been following all along. But I think it's still even more complex than that. I think at times we have been watching EXO and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovering that it hasn't necessarily been EXO the whole time.
With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside the window as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV.
Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's "Jopping" storyline. If you have seen "Jopping," you may remember what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in that MV. Those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in "Obsession." Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs. So because the members in black are supposed to be the EXO members who are the good guys, it seems to also indicate that the members who are in SuperM are the EXO members and not their X-EXO clones. So it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, EXO has gathered the best of the best of SM's groups to help them battle the Red Force and maybe eventually take down X-EXO. Just like how the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force.
Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we as EXO-L (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, song lyrics, albums, concert VCRs, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all.
To help you pinpoint the powers being used in their MVs and live performances here is a list of the members and what their special power is.
EXO-K
💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho)
💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light
🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire an.d his spirit animal is the phoenix.
🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force
☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation. (Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so his stage name symbolizes his role within EXO's storyline.

i saw a lot of people explained the concept already but lemme explain it to you with MV references so it's easier to follow :) Yes, EXO has been maintaining their storyline since pre debut (What is Love and History MV).
All EXO members are from the EXOPLANET and with superpowers (MAMA MV, their debut song). They nurtured the Tree of Life which is also in the MAMA MV, the whole intro. They all came to earth to defeat the Red Force (bad) which they kinda mentioned in their MAMA song. Here's the lyrics: "Your Majesty! Now answer me
, why people have changed? Has there even been a beautiful time before? They forgot how to love and lost their heart to care. They’re busy living with their backs turned." The Red Force is our inner demons, the reason why we changed.
Basically they came to earth to teach us to be good again lol but upon entering the earth, one of their members got possessed by the Red Force (Wolf Drama, a 2-part teaser for their Wolf MV). In this Wolf series, they revealed that only love can purify a person.
After defeating the Red Force in that chapter, EXO continued but were trapped in a maze (Overdose MV). Kai was able to escape since he can teleport. Basically they all got out of the maze and ended up in different cities around the world (EXODUS teasers for Call Me Baby MV, this MV has nothing to do w/ the plot lol just its teasers).
Let's say they were able to defeat the Red Force in certain battles but not completely. The government (actual humans) interrupted them from defeating the force completely as they got captured (Monster MV). The government has been monitoring the members and their unknown powers and find this as a threat to humans.
At a point of their journey they got contaminated by the Red Force, meaning they kinda went bad and drugged (KokoBop MV for drugged and Lotto for gambling). After this, we found out that the Red Force was able to get their powers. How? Prolly when they were drugged and they were in this hospital-like facility (Lucky One MV). Anw, they got out again and was able to get their powers back (Power MV and Lay's Namanana MV).
In 2018, the members still continued in defeating the Red Force but this whole 2018 era is actually a hint of their 2019 MV plot which is this Obsession MV. In the 2018 Tempo MV, there's this robotic voice in the song and Chanyeol was being interrogated by Chen. I made a theory before that Chanyeol was possessed by the Red Force that year and that's because 1. he has the "eye", his eyes were different and 2. he was the ONLY member who have a different hair color. All of the other members changed their hair colors back to EXODUS era (a year when all of them are the real EXO and now Chanyeol isn't one of them). This means Chanyeol was the first one to be possessed AGAIN! Why? Remember the 1st member that got possessed upon entering the earth? That was Kris, he's a dragon and his counterpart in the group is Chanyeol, a phoenix. Kris tried converting Luhan to the Red Force but failed because of Love, remember? we learned in their Wolf series that only love can purify the person. And because of this, Kris probably found another member he can trust and that was Chanyeol. Chanyeol successfully gave in himself and his other members to the Red Force which is why we are here watching this Obsession MV. We are now actually seeing them battling the actual Red Force, our inner demons. I'm sure one of them will succeed with the help of Lay (his power is healing, he is inactive in the group now but kinda made sense in the plot too lmao without him, the members have to find their own way to purify themselves). I actually believe Lay is the answer or the love coming from us or within. This is always their hint: Beginning = End, End = Beginning. I hope you understood on top of my bad english grammar lmao
Edit: i forgot to tell that Chen, the dude in the cctv room, is the same person who interrogated Chanyeol. This is the good Chen, trying to figure out the behavior of his members, starting with Chanyeol but you also saw that the X-Chen was also in the same room.

You really can't tell EXO's narrative from just one MV because most-- if not all-- of their MVs are interconnected in a multi-universe (universe as in space because they're supposed to be aliens, and universe as in an alternate reality because according to one of their MVs there are alternate parallel timelines) storyline that even includes their debut and comeback teasers and predebut releases.
And the storytelling isn't chronological. The predebut and debut MVs are situated _in medias res_ in two? three? possibly directly parallel universes while the subsequent MVs jump to other universes in differing time periods, so you really need to look for the little Easter eggs and common symbolism in the MVs to be able to piece out which belong to which universe and where they're situated in their respective timelines.
Fans have been trying to put together this gigantic puzzle since debut and EXO is the gift that keeps on giving because until now they're still feeding into that narrative, and they always put in more effort in making the comebacks as interactive for the fans as possible, by having fans unlock puzzles to get the teaser release schedules, having to use language translation programs to get clues, having to scour videos for hints, and opening new social media for concepts.
Really, if you're not a fan of EXO yet, it's really worth giving them a shot, it will really get your mind working.
