She is such a talented artist. She has aged gracefully like a fine red wine. Also, watch her performance of "Silent All These years," on CBS This Morning. Such a beautiful performance.
I'm so in love with this song and album...though I don't understand what they're doing with that effect on her voice...saw her the other night and she was crisp and pristine, why ruin those beautiful vocals with fx?
I haven't seen her this tour yet, but during the Geraldines era, I noticed that a lot of her talk show appearances sounded weaker than at the concerts, possibly due to not having ample time to warm up like she does before a live show? Maybe they added an effect to make up for that. Just speculating.
Interesting - I was thinking that could be a possibility, that the effect was to hide a weakness, saw her the week before in NYC and she sounded AMAZING.
She often doesn’t sing out or sings in less than top form on one of these tv performances, then sings out and in much better quality at one of her concerts. She started doing that years ago, which made me think she was losing her voice, then when you saw one of her live performances on youtube, or at one of her concerts or even heard her on a new album, it was obvious she could still sing.

I think it actually sounds really cool...different. Makes it sound haunting. I like the echoes, also.
