I CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT IT! This is the hardest fight Luffy's had so far in the series! Now yes he's been going non stop, however at the same time he HAS had breaks (such as resting on the train after picking up Sanji and Sogeking, and eating after beating Blueno). Now this fight is straight HANDS. Luffy and Lucci are going punch for punch, no trickery, no poison, no Logia intangibility (Foxy, Croc, Croc/Aokiji respectively) Luffy's been beat before, but not as much as he has right here at this point in the series. Still one of my favorite fights in all of one piece, and I can't wait for you to get to the few fights that are fucking BETTER
You're like, Smoker is underutilized, but as soon as he figured out where Strawhat was traveling at the beginning of the grand line he beat him there and even tracked them competently. Then the next place Luffy went was the sky. And while the G-6 arc is awesome, it's not what happened for real for real, so Smoker is doing his best

The beautiful thing about this fight is that despite the ever growing threats on Luffy's path he was willing to put himself through all this pain to save Robin. This is probably the most pain he's experienced in his life so far and his will was just that strong to overcome this obstacle. However, can Luffy keep doing this going forward like this? Can he keep fighting till the brink of death everytime he fights a strong opponent like Lucci or stronger like Aokiji? Questions that need to be answered in the future.

Remember that Spandam is at least Captain level, even though he's just a Chief, so they're not all as strong as Smoker. Smoker is a HQ Captain, which means hes about 3 ranks higher than Captain Axe-Hand Morgan out in the boonies
