almost 30 years after and I'm still amazed. First time I played it was at a friends house. He had a Sega CD, so I thought he was playing a Sega game, just because of how awesome and different the music was.
this game's quest mode and the soundtrack is the reason i bought the 4tap and four controllers. for the first time a game had music that was long enough that it flowed when it repeated so you could spend hours on it and not be sick of it like games previous.
why dont we have such cool music in games today? This music made my friend that had a Snes listen twice one time without headphones then with headphones and then he said holy gawd is this cool. I allways said about this theme if you chose Wizard you love this :)
It seems like out of the four Elements, Air always gets the best music. It happened in Gauntlet 4, it happened in Chakan: The Forever Man, it happened in...okay, I'm out of examples now. But Air just seems to lend itself to racing, ethereal-sounding tunes, and Transparent Obstacles goes above and beyond here.
"If I had a nickel every time Air got the best music out of all four elements, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice."
I first played this game in 1995. I was about 14, and the Wind Tower was my first pick at random. The first time I heard 1:42 come in, I had to stop and just listen. Then 2:10 rolled around, and I was floored. It still impresses me to this day how solid this track sounds.
It's funny...I started up gauntlet 4 on a whim just to see how the OST would be and was freaking blown away when I heard this song! LMAO...I didn't even know the name, but figured that it was this one when I clicked on the thumbnail...
Yes, that is often the case. Especially since no hardware is made to sound better the lower the quality goes. Oh, and this is the goddamn genesis, so "high quality" is what it actually sounds like
@Christuserloeser thanks. personally I rate the music of Turrican 2 made by Chris Hülsbeck above everything else of that era. Modern day is Kelly Bailey's soundtrack to Half-Life series (search for Vortal Combat).
It's the *Unknown!*
There's something in the walls!
The evil chocolate maker whose name is not known.
*The Unknown
*Attack 7, Defense 15
*Lives in the walls of Wonka’s factory
Until recently, this track was *Unknown* to me.
Lumpy brought me here and I'm glad he did.
Thank you editor dylan for introducing this banger
Absolutely massive John Carpenter influence in this one.

Amazing sounds this guy got out of the Mega Drive. The real sense of determination in the beat makes it even more powerful and atmospheric.
Oh wow this frigging amazing music can't believe this was done just on the Sega Genesis.
Editor Dylan sent me.
This was an awesome game. Great port of the Arcade game, and the Quest mode rocked too.
this was my favorite music from Gauntlet IV or genesis! i never forgot it! im so glad i found it here. thanks for posting!

1:42 this part always gives me the shivers like holy fuck

Agree!
Those low growl/string sounds are friggin' amazing too.
This game, Road Rash, and Streets of Rage 2 had my favorite soundtracks in a Genesis game.
Altered Beasts, Golden Axe, Eternal Champions, and Phantasy Star all had great soundtracks outside of what you mentioned.
great music. Sakimoto sure knew how to make some nice genesis tunes.
2:10 always gives me the chills. It's just THAT epic!
When I was little the beginning creeped me out XD
But Gauntlet 4 was one of the best games
It turns out that Master of Monsters was also made with this same driver. Check out some of the music that game had!
Wow, what a great tip! This music is incredible! Thanks!
Wow, incredible melodies. Song goes super hard.

Just plain awesome.
This is pure fire!
This gives me a 'Big Trouble in Little China' vibes.
Indeed!
Dat 16-bit drumroll.
The drums are killer.
god damn that is crunch af
follin brothers VS hitoshi sakimoto!

I'm convinced this bassline influenced Muse - Hysteria
Best thing Tengen has ever done. Way better than their unlicensed NES games and Awesome Possum.
The port is made by M2, japonesse developer.
@@alexisynthfm1988 That explains it. I love their Castlevania and Contra collections.
this is music from the Wind Tower from Gauntlet IV i used to play it
too bad Sega didn't hire him to design the standard sound routines. maybe more games would have sounded better.
but what do I know..
this whole soundtrack slams bass on a car/hq stereo system...
How would you know
@@leakesonasucs Gee, maybe they have a car, duh!
best part starts at about 2:08
i came here for "unknown" reasons
😍😍😍
Blue elf shot the potion 🥴🥴
NOOOOOOO
sampled this, lol
What an Unknown song

what. is. that?..
The wind tower, the most annoying floor tiles ever.
B-b-but all those "low quality for the best experience" posts on famitracker videos and game soundtrack rips can't have been WRONG, could they?
Where can I get the midi for this?
Everything is better in high quality. 240p is not high quality for chiptunes, it just means your ears have no bloody taste. It's also mono.
