7 Years of Homestuck in 11 Minutes

  • This is an updated version of a previous video I made, this time including some (26 total) [S] pages with the images more condensed. There are probably errors in this, feel free to point them out to me in the comments. I hope you guys enjoyed Homestuck as much as I did :)
    Idea taken from: • [Seizure warning] Thre...
    Previous Version (not as good): • Video
    Source of images and the home of Homestuck itself: mspaintadventures.com/
    Music (in order):
    Homestuck Vol. 1-4 - Sburban Jungle (by Michael Guy Bowman)
    Strife! - Atomic Bonsai (by Joren "Tensei" de Bruin)
    coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A - Cobalt Thief (by Ray McDougall)
    Programs and Methods Used:
    Eclipse IDE: To extract all the .gifs and .swfs from the Homestuck site
    Gifsicle: To set the delay between frames of all the .gifs to 0
    Swivel: To convert the .swfs to .mp4
    ffmpeg: To speed up the .mp4s to 24x normal speed and to remove the audio
    Sony Vegas: To compile all the .gifs and converted .mp4s together in order, to add the music, and to render it all for the final project
    What I did differently from last time:
    Tweaked my program to be able to grab more images from Homestuck. The first time around I was missing a lot of pages due to a mistake I made.
    Still images are now only 1 frame instead of 3 frames.
    Included some .swf files converted to .mp4 and sped up 24x
    Edit: Yeah, I missed a lot of the flash files. There were over 200 and I only included 26. This was due both to my personal time restraints (it was such a tedious process to convert the .swf to .mp4) and due to the time constraints of the video. I didn't want them overpowering the standard pages.

    That moment when you realize that Act 6 is half the total length of Homestuck.

    • @witchBoi_Connor
      @witchBoi_Connor 7 років тому +102

      IllusioneTempus act six was divided into sub acts, as Act six was the second half of homestuck. Being the Scratch, ya know? It was sort of a completely new act one through whatever.

      Y'know this comment is a year old now I could care less about it
      Also it's mostly to poke fun on Act 6 since it's like one of the most tedious rides of Homestuck that lasted 5 years

      And that the 6th act of act 6 has, also, 6 acts. Making act 6 almost 12 acts long.

    Also this just made me understand the ending.
    John got the power to edit canon and at the end the characters left homestuck, but vriska trapped lord english in homestuck and sealed him there. Hussie is not just lord english, he is caliborn, lets face it, in universe they both suck at art think they're better than they are, flounder around aimlessly, and created a trashheap of a comic, and now that the characters(fandom) can move on from homestuck, lord english(hussie) is forever trapped with it and is unable to escape. Lord english represents hussie's fear that he will never escape from the looming shadow of homestuck that hangs over him. that he will never best it.

    • @tabificrevendicate8434
      @tabificrevendicate8434 8 років тому +1

      +therealquade well, they trapped him in sburb/they trapped his presence in a instance, so he cannot time travel no more

    • @therealquade
      @therealquade 8 років тому +9

      Teh Randoms no no no. They trapped him in cannon. as in within "homestuck". Go back to the early parts of homestuck, act 1, the word "HOMESTUCK" is floating in the sky as a physical object. John's session, Karkat's session, Jane's session, Kankri's session, The dream bubbles, and the horrorterrors, are all a part of the homestuck universe. You have to remember, Caliborn wrote Homosuck, which is basically a fucked up act 1, and he had the capacity to interfere with homestuck cannon, because he was outside of it. That's why the act progression was messed up because parts of the narrative are outside of cannon, just like hussie, and doc scratch, they are outside of the homestuck cannon. Then john went outside of it, which is how he was able to jump around at will. This is effectively what caliborn, hussie, and doc scratch had, except they're an idiot an author and impartial respectively, meaning none of them can use it practically to accomplish a task. John on the other hand can. This is how they "won" in the end. They stripped caliborn of this power, trapping him within the narative itself. Everybody else is free to leave.
      I mean, we have to remember after english is killed, the horrorterrors are just going to eat all the dreambubbles and everyone still dies just as horribly. This resolves that quite nicely too, because the horrorterrors are contained within the narrative of homestuck as well.

      Fraven 413 I kinda have to disagree, at least from my experience. I did find the first act pretty slow, and it really took a long time to actually get into it. But acts 2, 3 and 4 were really what got me to really like it. Act 5 had to grow on me, since at the beginning I really couldn't care less about the trolls (since the human story was "cut" at a very important moment), so it took me a while. Almost the same thing happened for the humans in act 6.

    So many memories slammed my way so fast... and- just as fast... it's all gone... I'm not sure whether to smile, or cry. So many friends I've made through this webcomic... so many I've lost due to the hiatus, some just disappearing, others, through dispute... so many opportunities... so many spoken words... so many times I felt at peace with so many other people, like I was part of something. Then comes the horrible revelation of being torn back into reality... and just like that. It's all gone.

    • @koopakape
      @koopakape 8 років тому +2

      +Mathemagics That's exactly what they were going for, I'm pretty sure. naruto was still pretty big at the time that song was made and frankly the mix of traditional Japanese music with hard rock in naruto's soundtrack is one of the best things about that anime. And it's a pretty good series, it just loses its way story-wise several times as it goes along, really not unlike homestuck itself lol, though HS is so wildly self-aware it hardly feels like it matters.

    • @BPac21
      @BPac21 8 років тому +1

      +Mathemagics the songs in strife were very specifically meant to evoke pop culture that tensei figured their respective kids would be into. heir conditioning is in the style of a touhou song and quotes tomboyish girl in love, dance of thorns has things like castlevania and fire emblem, time on my side has metallica and is in the style of music from spy films, and atomic bonsai references two specific naruto songs at various points.

    • @koopakape
      @koopakape 8 років тому

      Lambda Bledsoe Oh yeah? man, I REALLY do not see any of those fitting the characters at all except maybe Rose being into Castlevania and Fire Emblem, and Dave DRESSING like Bond at times though it's very hard to see him actually being into that kinda stuff (who knows though?) but we got such good music out of it I hardly care.
