The premise remind me of papers please. Choosing whether to do your job or be a good guy at a cost of your family.
That's how I explained it to my girl. Sorta like Papers, Please.
"And even though the characters are BLAAACK." LMAO GOT EM
Pretty nice mentioning This war of mine. Truly I haven't even thought that way, but the style and game mechanics are similar. Indeed nice catch there.
Thanks for the review. I found this game before I found your channel, but I agree that it really is a lot of fun. The only problems I have with it are more of a UI nature than anything else, and some may consider these nitty gritty, but to me they made the game difficult to play. Two examples (extra white space for spoilers, but they really are not severe).
1: I got medicine for my daughter, but my wife was asleep and the mission timer was running out. There was no bloody way to wake her up. Hey wife! I have medicine for our dying child, could you please wake up? No? You're just gonna stay there..... ok..... time's a ticking...... bugger there she died..... happy now?
2: It is quite common that you need to get into contact with a specific person. If this person lives with someone else then there is no reliable way to contact them in their apartments. When you knock at the door you flip a coin and hope that the right person answers. If the wrong person answers then you can see the other person in the apartment through the open door, but there is no way to signal that you want to talk to them.
3: The movement is dodgy. You can't, for instance, click in the middle of a room and the character will actually go there. You seem to have to hit the floor. If you are currently rummaging through someone's apartment (or opening their front door) and you see that they are coming home it's a frantic click-fest to find a place to click that will have Carl move away before he is caught.
All of these scenarios have caused me to fail missions and they seem to be things that could be easily patched so I hope they do that. This game wears Papers Please on its sleeves, and to be fair, there are far worse role models you can have.
It's also hard as hell if you want to get enough money for everything.
Love your work as always. Actually convinced me to pick up the game and try it out, so thank you for that. Unsolicited advice here, I know, but I almost feel like you upload TOO frequently. It can be a bit hard to keep up with all the videos and even harder to find the time to look into the games you're reviewing. That being said, the reviews are always high quality and that's rare to find these days. Good stuff :)
Fan of your work! Do you know how many terrible game review channels there are. You always give a good overview of the game with an appropriate amount of gamplay not just you talking over a menu. keep it up!
Thanks appreciate it!
i'm with him too :) good job :D
Tony Watson
always giving a good review is not necesserarily a good thing ;)
but being able to read is. he clearly says "you always give a good overview" not always give a good review
"always giving a good review is not necesserarily a good thing"
Yes it is, since if the quality of the review is good then the review is good by the very definition of the word. You might be confusing a good review with a positive review...
Great review as always (I just watched Tyranny as well - meaning to try it :D). Thanks for the opportunity of getting Beholder too! Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
the review reminded me of papers please! going to try out the demo for it, thanks for the review!
Bought this game from this review alone.
Good Video, I think this looks a great game, and will be sure to check it out, thanks for the heads up
I don't know how i Miss games like this
Cool review thanks. I loved Paper's please.. will check it out
$1.50 on steam until April 23rd
1.05$ for me
Would this play like this war of mine? It took 4 attempts at this war of mine before I understood what it wanted and I liked it. I now have played through it 3 times each time doing different things, I loved it. Every game I hate bc I don't understand it becomes one of my favorites.
I hated mass effect then learned how to build a team and please my crew while gathering things on missions and it still my number one,
LOVE these games that take a minute for it to settle down hard in your belly.
Sunless sea! Check it out and if you buy it, don't look anything up and enjoy how you learn new stuff.
are the events random in this game like this war of mine?
im hoping its not a short game since it seems that good.
No they are not random, you will get different events depending on choices and what happens.
Can you review 80 Days and Sorcery! ?
watch the beholder short film on youtube the music is amazing.
Does anyone know if Beholders 2 will be out on PS4 anytime soon?
google probably knows
It is on ps4
So you basically play as a soviet spy on amphetamines.
Pretty much.
I'm not sure Carl could be called a spy
sold!
$5 on the eshop right now!
This video is underrated.
Awesome review, man :) I just bought it because of this.
Enjoy! let me know what you think after you've played
He never let you know what he thought.
Soo.. It's been 4 long years, Will you ever let Cosmic Engine know what you thought about the game after playing it? 🤔
Why is this game only 13 usd its so good and has so much to offer
Awesome video!✊💯
Everytime I play this game I can't afford my daughter's medicine or my son's date because I'm too nice to the tenants lol.
All of my family died in like two seconds 💀
I'll tell you how to fix that
Spoliers:
1.Take bribe from Sarah wattermach and then evict her
2. Blackmail tenants
3. Send klaus on the trip with the coal guy (other tenant)
4. Get ticket from Doctor after evicting sarah and keep it for Patrick to let him live
5. Spend all money on Martha's health
6. Dont buy radio for your wife..that's all I know for now
Should I bother with the first game. I just found out about the game today? The sequel look more interesting.
Replay value?
There is certainly some as the consequences for your choices change things.
Are the tenants/missions always the same?
This is a lot like orwell except third person in a sense.
I'm late but yes, the game is entirely based on Orwell. It plays in September 1984 and everything is like "ministry of this and that"
YOU DONT EVEN GO PAST THE 4TH DAY AND YOU CALL THIS A GODDAMN REVIEW!??
Das leben der Anderen the video game.
How long to finish?
Any replayability?
Metacritics: the tiresome grind, muddled signposting and rather flakey controls. In the long run though, Beholder: Complete Edition is a bit too much like an exhausting job, a job that I wished I could quit after a while. in the Switch port of the game the controls and menus, alongside the abnormal ‘recommended’ difficulty make it more of a chore to play than previous versions.
