- A fast-moving film starring Cliff Robertson as a flight instructor giving a refresher course for pilots where the discussion goes into dramatic incidents occurring as a result of "human error."
I wonder how many people in the 60's had any idea that 60 years on, people would be watching these online and on handheld devices..... very cool that these are preserved.
but I think they would be surprised that 60 years later we are still basically flying those same planes, in many cases literally the same physical planes from the 60s
Not only that many of those same planes are retrofitted with the completely upgraded panel with Glass, CRTs, AHRS and GPS. Those who are still around grew with the changes. What they would have thought about an HSI when their VOR Omni had a blue and yellow sector. Think of what Buddy Holly’s flight would have been if his fatal flight was an upgraded model. Gosh I miss the NDB approach!
@@aviatortrucker6285 I hear you on the NDB approach. My favorite approach even though I had to go missed more than with any other type. NDB - A real man's approach!
@@2degreewca if you have a navigator like the G1000 that allows you to use bearing indicators, you can fly a VOR approach just like an NDB. Without using a course deviation needle, such as leaving your CDI on GPS, I fly the bearing indication on the number one bearing indicator. VOR’s that have approaches both to, and from the VOR are easily done as long as you remember whether to fly with the bearing pointer up or the tail up. Just like an NDB. I also use the bearing selectors to indicate cross radials like intersections without having to change my CDI to a VOR number two. It is always displayed so I can see exactly what bearing to the station no matter which VOR is set. However, I really miss figuring the stuff out with a fixed azimuth card. .
@@aviatortrucker6285 Unfortunately, the available real estate of my C-150 instrument panel won’t accommodate a G-1000. Although I do have the Avare app on an android tablet that can be temporarily installed with a little Velcro. What I’d like to have is an app that will display an ADF or RMI that can be targeted on a fix or lat/long of my own choosing. My 150 has an old Narco NAV 122 ILS receiver so I can do ILS/LOC/VOR approaches but I sure miss flying an NDB approach.
Man, these guys wrecked the entire flight school fleet in few days! :) Great video though, useful, I enjoyed it totally...
I wish there were more videos like this, for someone who just got thier license, I can't believe how relevant this stuff still is! Almost 50 years later!

True, almost unbelievable that we are flying to the same physics than in the 60s...
Rules and principals haven't changed much
@@e36s50b30 cars use the same physics since the 19 th century when they were invented there is motor power for thrust drag from friction for avaition we will use the same physics for years to come

I like these training videos. Please keep posting them. I love looking up the tail numbers. The planes in this video are still airworthiness. I love the FAA education.

Cliff owned some warbirds eventually, so he really did love flying. I thought at one time he was around San Diego.
Wow, the more things change the more the stay the same. I have seen all of these things happen at my airport, except for the hand prop accident. Haven't seen someone have to hand prop yet, but I am sure some day I will see it.
That's what safety culture is all about!

So, supposedly the Tri-Pacer guy had the wind FROM the NE, 10-15, which meant he was landing downwind and his base turn was WAY wide, he ran off the left side of the runway, so the diagram on the chalk board is crap. No wonder their students are confused, the instructor is a moron. And if Chuck calls that lined up on the runway, he may need his vision checked...

Another safety film with things being shown that are unsafe. Opening your car door before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. How come the pilot came out of the right side of the airplane when that airplane has doors on both sides? First time I’ve seen a tricycle gear plane ground loop.

Yes ..but this vid is pitched at newbies or others who require a refresher ..also gives an insight into the demographics in those days. :)

It’s actually great money spent. It’s an educational film that will save millions of $$ in the future if they can use this to change future pilots behaviors. A function of the FAA is also education and prevention.
