Hi Dear, thank you for reaching out. Because UT171C has higher accuracy and can detect a wider range of waveforms, it can detect PWM simulated waveforms so need LPF mode to filter high-frequency signals. It cannot automatically measure because it has a wide detection range and cannot know which waveform you want to detect. Just like different multimeters have different ranges, in order to obtain accurate measurement results, you need to manually switch the range.
The 171C is more for laboratory and benchtop electronics applications. I don't use it for building electrical work. I love my 171C. It took me a year to save up the money to buy it. It's like a baby. I even bought it a little bed with a pillow and blanket. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Why does Expensive multimeter not give the correct reading until you have to change the mode.... Why does it not work automatically? 😕

When you ask yourself why is the OLED model is less accurate, what do you say to yourself?
