I love that you checked Recommendations from a damn year ago. You are jsut an awesome person that cares for his viewer-Community. One of the many reasons i stayed after the first Video i've seen from you :)
Awwww, thanks matey! If people are bothered enough to comment and recommend stuff, the least I can do is at least try to play it! Even if it takes a year to get there!!!!
Edit: Just got to the Iron Maiden comment. Listen to Drumhead Trial. The vocal styles/tones are very Bruce Dickinson-esque albeit over some "slightly" more crazy music. ;D
Wow... Was just eating dinner and had this video in my feed, totally forgot I suggested this to you. Was shocked when I heard my name. Almost choked on my soup
So glad you eventually got to it, Jim :) Thanks for the shoutout as always! There's a lot of fun to be had in their music. Fortress is their strongest album imo, I swear to god you can eenie-meenie-miney-mo a song from that record to react to and you'll be in good shape, not a single bad/mediocre song on that record.
I have been on a PTH trip lately, they are excellent! Their first album Kezia has a very different sound/production than the newer albums, but as a full listen it is incredible for the lyrical concept and just everything about it!
🤟😎 Protest the Hero is such a great band...one of my faves! Something else to check out is Seventh Wonder - The Angelmaker. Reminds me a little of Symphony X as well.
Hi Jim.Was watching some of your older videos.Found this band thanks to you. Absolutly love the new album From Protest the hero -" Palimpsest"Difficult to pick up stand out song as whole album is incredible. Give a go if you haven't listened yet.
You know the band has made an impact when they were able to 100% crowd fund one of their albums after pure failure of the record companies to promote them properly. The song Dunsel especially powerful when the anger towards upper level record execs comes through. Gives me goosebumps
At Härlanda Prison, Gothenburg, Sweden, I watched - and listened - to these awesome guys... I mean, I was as always dressed up: Like Reservoir Dogs; impeccable suit (like Kingsman Mr. Colin Firth) and comfortable with my Armani windsor knit tie to impresse the girls (I was recently divorced). And who else showed up? The Safety Fire, and, add insult to injury: A Perfect Circle, and my fav: TesseracT. I even became a roadie for Jay Postones! Take that! True story.
Progressive Metal is probably the best way to put it. The math term comes from the change in signatures and trying to keep up with them in your head by counting haha
Your attempts to catch the flow of the song are pleasantly entertaining but now I'm craving to see your reactions to bands like dillinger escape plan - sunshine the werewolf or 43% burnt
For proper math rock, check the following albums: 1. Diablo Guapo by Bastro 2. Hold your Horse is Full by Hella 3. Shellac by At Action Park 4. Don Caballero 2 by Don Caballero 5. Any song from the Japanese band LITE (a personal favourite). Would start with LITE's album "filmlets"!
Ohh yeah the tool videos are been removed all over UA-cam because as of Friday August 2nd all Tool back catalogue is on streaming services 🎉 👍 So the record label are removing tool videos left right and centre ready for the new release.
Why does that song give me such a strong Symphony X Vibe tho o.O It's actually pretty nice. When you read the Genre definition i was a little worried but hey..i DO like it :D
Felidrummer1 Yeah don’t look at the genre before hand just listen to their album Fortress. Or Kezia. They are both extremely solid. They write guitar solos for riffs.
I know you weren't particularly a fan of _All Hands_ off their new record, but give _Little Snakes_ (off the same record) a listen. I like _All Hands_ quite a bit, though I feel _Little Snakes_ may be more up your alley; it's my personal favorite off their newest record and I feel is strong across the board.
Technically proficient , very talented singer. I've heard a couple tracks, and while I have nothing negative to say about them, it's not anything I've revisited. I also got the Maiden vibe as well.....
what is Math Rock ? I don't know. Mesa day startin pretty okee-day with a brisky morning munchy, then BOOM! very nice scrolling star warsy text there, how to confuse people when you read and hear something different at the same time
Protest the hero is awesome, but they're not mathcore. Check out bands like botch (we are the romans album), coalesce (functioning on impatience) the dillinger escape plan (calculating infinity)
Nice Jim vocal style a little bit leprous vibes. First time ive heard of the Math rock genre was from a band Called This town needs Guns. Try listen to the song called Gibbon. True greatness, but first the special request, yes Jim.. You know what... Anathema My friend.
That was a lot better, what I expected. But it wasn't musically surprising, unique or new. Very guitar driven, but the vocals bettered it a great deal. Good groove, didn't sound like a misfiring, off-timed V6, like many other mathematically skilled bands (like Leprous, can't stand them). I could listen to this band a bit more, just for the interest. Have a nice trip, Jim!
Love the vids! I have a request: Comus - Diana from their album First Utterance. Will likely be the weirdest thing you've listened to but they are an awesome band ua-cam.com/video/4aEpyhx_c7o/v-deo.html
Love watching people listen to Protest
Protest the hero - Plato's Tripartite
This. A million times this.
Oh man, the vocals really make it for me

Awwww, thanks matey! If people are bothered enough to comment and recommend stuff, the least I can do is at least try to play it! Even if it takes a year to get there!!!!
"Drumhead Trial" or "Clarity" are my personal favourites but they always have cool instrumental stuff going on. Pretty awesome
Edit: Just got to the Iron Maiden comment. Listen to Drumhead Trial. The vocal styles/tones are very Bruce Dickinson-esque albeit over some "slightly" more crazy music. ;D
Hey! Protest the Hero! Been waiting for this. This is a good entry level song for them, thanks Jim!
They packed so many play of words in there, amazing lyrics and meaning
Good timing they just announced they are working on new music
So glad to hear this! Thank you.
So awesome to see you do Protest. First four albums are flawless! If u revisit, please do Drumhead Trial. It’s ridiculous
Every album is flawless
Great band from my neck of the woods (Toronto). All the songs are all over the place and they take influences from a ton of different styles.
Love this song. The lyrics are so awesome. The trains were 15m late. Haha. Well, everything is. Great choice Jim. Thanks!
I've been following this band for over a decade... It's so beautiful to finally see them get the recognition they deserve. 🤩
Wow... Was just eating dinner and had this video in my feed, totally forgot I suggested this to you. Was shocked when I heard my name. Almost choked on my soup
Awesome to see some Protest the Hero!
I’d recommend: Protest the Hero - Bone Marrow
Tbh all their songs are flawless but Bone Marrow is #1
So glad you eventually got to it, Jim :) Thanks for the shoutout as always! There's a lot of fun to be had in their music. Fortress is their strongest album imo, I swear to god you can eenie-meenie-miney-mo a song from that record to react to and you'll be in good shape, not a single bad/mediocre song on that record.

🤟😎
Protest the Hero is such a great band...one of my faves!
Something else to check out is Seventh Wonder - The Angelmaker. Reminds me a little of Symphony X as well.
This was excellent. Check out their song called "Mist"
Hi Jim.Was watching some of your older videos.Found this band thanks to you. Absolutly love the new album From Protest the hero -" Palimpsest"Difficult to pick up stand out song as whole album is incredible. Give a go if you haven't listened yet.
'From The Sky ' is my favourite track on the album it's a great tune.
You know the band has made an impact when they were able to 100% crowd fund one of their albums after pure failure of the record companies to promote them properly. The song Dunsel especially powerful when the anger towards upper level record execs comes through. Gives me goosebumps
i think they raised around triple of their goal-then hired chris alder from lamb of god for the drumming
@@duncansolloway2497 he also produced the album i believe
Math Rock: Noun. "Stupid name for good music".
This comment wins!
Wow is right! Never heard of them. Thanks Jim!
At Härlanda Prison, Gothenburg, Sweden, I watched - and listened - to these awesome guys... TesseracT originally came from Milton Keynes, where I live. I never met them. That too is a true story!!!
Yup good call on the Iron Maiden this song has always reminded of that and yes his voice is insane
I really dig your videos. You are very articulated in your speech.
4:08 that smile when you hear a deep lung scream
Progressive Metal is probably the best way to put it. The math term comes from the change in signatures and trying to keep up with them in your head by counting haha
Would love to see you react to Protest the Hero - Harbourside / All Hands (off their latest album) it's imo their most impressive work yet.
Please do this for your next video.
The Faceless - Autothiest Movement part 1, 2 and 3. 3 songs great verity of styles and just great music.
Take a listen to "Iconoclast" From Symphony X this song reminds me sooooo much of that. especially the Intro.. dayum! :D
After this song, I appreciate you more than ever! haha. Also, this is progressive Metal imo
Your attempts to catch the flow of the song are pleasantly entertaining but now I'm craving to see your reactions to bands like dillinger escape plan - sunshine the werewolf or 43% burnt
Definitely check out the song From The Sky on their new album Palimpsest! Thanks for the video!

Protest the Hero, clarity or anything on their newest album
Protest is so fucking good!!!!!
You should check out Protest the Hero's new song, "From the Sky." It kicks some serious ass haha
Ohh yeah the tool videos are been removed all over UA-cam because as of Friday August 2nd all Tool back catalogue is on streaming services 🎉 👍

Gallop meets the earth
Why does that song give me such a strong Symphony X Vibe tho o.O It's actually pretty nice. When you read the Genre definition i was a little worried but hey..i DO like it :D
Felidrummer1 Yeah don’t look at the genre before hand just listen to their album Fortress. Or Kezia. They are both extremely solid. They write guitar solos for riffs.
A couple recs:
(More) Rishloo - Just a Ride
Jerry Cantrell - Psychotic Break (title track)
Earthside - A Dream in Static
Other bands to look: The dillinger escape plan, Cult of luna, Amenra, Oatbreaker, the ocean collective
Dillinger are just great. Seen them many times, crazy shit. 👍
Steven Wilson - No Twilight Within the Courts of the Sun (live Mexico City)
Request from us Aussies.... The Butterfly Effect, Worlds on Fire!!!!
Funny that you mentioned clarity in this song...the first single from their next album was called "Clarity".
A lot of their shit is equally as tasty or better. I suggest turn "soonest to the sea"
Technically proficient , very talented singer. I've heard a couple tracks, and while I have nothing negative to say about them, it's not anything I've revisited. I also got the Maiden vibe as well.....

He said "Clarity" which means he needs to react to CLARITY.
Nice Jim vocal style a little bit leprous vibes. First time ive heard of the Math rock genre was from a band Called This town needs Guns. Try listen to the song called Gibbon. True greatness, but first the special request, yes Jim.. You know what... Anathema My friend.
They’re fun huh?
Protest the hero - animal bones
I thought pth was more prog metal, but idk sub genres huh.
Steve Vai - Blue Powder
Your face was like you were watching a musical ball bouncing around breaking things off camera.
Dream Theater - Illumination Theory
That was a lot better, what I expected. But it wasn't musically surprising, unique or new. Very guitar driven, but the vocals bettered it a great deal. Good groove, didn't sound like a misfiring, off-timed V6, like many other mathematically skilled bands (like Leprous, can't stand them). I could listen to this band a bit more, just for the interest. Its mathcore*
Love the vids! I have a request: Comus - Diana from their album First Utterance. Will likely be the weirdest thing you've listened to but they are an awesome band
ua-cam.com/video/4aEpyhx_c7o/v-deo.html
Destrage - Purania (Simialar Protest the hero) ITALIANS DO IT BETTER!!
