A cosmopolitan country, in the heart of Europe, welcome to Luxembourg.
Luxembourg City is above all a multicultural city that counts no less than 163 different nationalities. The capital of the Grand Duchy where many European Institutions call home, and the biggest banks have their headquarters.
But between tradition and modernity, the city of Luxembourg is surprising with its numerous tourist sites: monuments listed as UNESCO world heritage sites, museums, squares, boutiques, and even its craftsmen who actively participate in the richness of the country.
Today, after dropping off our bags at one of the most prestigious establishments of the city, the Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal, our first stop is a gourmet one with Léa Linster, the only woman in the world to have won the much coveted Bocuse d’Or.
A starred chef who makes a point of highlighting local wines and products. On her advice, we shall head over to the Domaine Mathis Bastian, known especially for its Auxerrois, an excellent Luxembourg grape variety.
Finally, after taking you around the city, we take you to Bridel, steps away from the centre of Luxembourg, where we will spend an evening in a chic and trendy club, completely relaxed in the middle of the forest.
Then we meet two young entrepreneurs who have risen to the challenge: produce a beer with resolutely premium packaging!
The Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal is one of the most luxurious hotels in the Grand Duchy.
In the lobby, we can see that it was designed to be a true living space for the clientele. An establishment that has earned its 5 stars.
Created in 2008, the hotel offers 128 rooms and suites including the Grand Ducal suite, the most luxurious but also the biggest in Luxembourg with some 200 m2 of living space.
There’s a living room/dining room with 2 bedrooms on each side. The magnificent bathtub certainly caught our eye.
Delighting in a unique panorama of the capital city, the elegant Sofitel Luxembourg Grand Ducal overlooks the Alzette and Pétrusse Valleys.
A view that one can savour on the top floor of the hotel where the barmen of the Observatory concoct delicious cocktails.
Through the bay windows, you can see the Notre Dame Cathedral of Luxembourg built between 1613 and 1621. A Cathedral church in 1870, it was expanded between 1935 and 1938. The crypt is the resting place of John the Blind, King of Bohemia and the Count of Luxembourg, as well as many late members of the grand duchy family.
A few hundred metres behind the monument is the Palace, the city residence of the Grand Duke. It’s here where royal marriages are celebrated, notably with their appearance on the balcony.
The Flemish renaissance style facades dating back to the 16th century are just splendid. The majestic interior and state rooms are open to the public, but exclusively during the summer.
Because of its strategic position, between the kingdom of France and the German empire, the fortress of Luxembourg has been, since the 16th century, until its dismantling in 1867, one of the most important fortified sites in Europe.
The biggest engineers, like Vauban, left their imprint on this fortress, considered to be the Gibraltar of the north.
An extraordinary 23 km network of underground tunnels, the famous Bock casemates, were sculpted in the rocks of the city, making it the number one attraction in Luxembourg. They are unique in the world and testify to the glorious past of the legendary city fortress.
She is also part of the history of the Grand Duchy.
Léa Linster, a distinguished female chef, starred in 1987, and then winner of the Bocuse d'or 2 years later.
To date, she remains the only woman in the world to hold this ultimate gastronomic distinction.
We now head to Frisange, a few kilometres from Luxembourg, on the French border, for a little well-deserved tasty break.
Today Léa Linster is making a potato recipe for us.
Is this just a random dish? Certainly not, since it was thanks to this vegetable that she won the Bocuse d’or. Let’s go back to 1989
It is time to watch our chef at work.
Lea throws herself into a potato galette recipe, just for us!
    Tasty isn’t it?
The charm of a simple, tasty, yet technical cuisine, served in a bright restaurant where a few piano notes might just resonate during dinner.
Bird songs are also expected to accompany your meal. The starred chef is eager to offer her guests a magnificent view, during the day.
And as always “with love” of course!

Luxembourg looks lovely, but I'm getting bored of all the modern architecture in every city. It's time for a return to traditional building materials and styles. That's what's really beautiful.

Luxembourg can hold her own in food, wine, chocolate and hospitality. But the country is beautiful. It's also very modern and open.

I was an idiot to visit Luxembourg in winter -_-
As an Asian, it was bloody cold and uncomfortable as best.
Next time in Europe, I definitely will pick a better season.

That says that you have no idea how to enjoy winter. I visited Belgium and the Netherlands also in winter and ended up having a fantastic time. Plenty of activities to enjoy in the winter season.

@@rthelionheart Well, for me it’s about time for the Christmas markets. Especially in Frankfurt, I spent couples of hours just to walk around their market, checking out toys and sweets :D

@@victorianakitto2846 What do you mean by "multicultural" ? You mean, the american definition according to which being a multicultural country means, living with as much black people as white people? It's not the same here. People are diverse and have diverse cultures, despite being mainly white. Luxembourg is a country that is surrounded by germany, france, and belgium. And each of these countries (Luxembourg included) have their own culture, traditions, languages, cuisine, history. In addition to that, the main immigrant community in luxembourg are the portuguese people who have their own culture and language as well. The other immigrants are more diverse, but there are less of them: people from northern europe, eastern europe and russia, people from the middle east, from india, from asia, from the USA and africa, who live here on a daily basis or just come occasionally for big corps.
Imo, luxembourg is way way more diverse than the USA...
