@@guccigg1528 I mean, with all the other details aligning perfectly, I think there is a reason they didn't put it there. Possibly to allude to the fact everything we knew about Lordran and Dark Souls 1 is now gone, buried in Ash, and dead. Not even it's memory lasted.
You're playing through the apocalypse of all existence in The Ringed City, it would be kind of out of place to make the original firelink feel too comfortable. Its suppose to look like a perverbial desecrated corpse to us as players. That feeling of what was once here is now lost forever wpuldnt strike as hard if the bonfire was where we know and remember it to be. To the inhabitants of Dark Souls 3, its some meaningless rubble that a demon lives at, and nothing more.

You take a jump from earthen peak into the great hollow to fight the last demon remaining in the ruins of the first firelink shrine while the bed of chaos theme can be heard in the ost... Pure fanservice. When I first played the game and realized I was back in anor londo I got so nostalgic, then hearing a twisted version of gwyndolins theme while fighting aldrich was kinda terrifying. Sister friede instantly reminded me of priscilla and I even recognized her boss arena in the painting. Hearing plin plin plon in the kiln of the first flame that has been filled with ash to the top because so many centuries had passed and then seeing soul of cinder become gwyn and throwing the sunlight spear legit made me cry lmao. This is truly the end of the saga.

I think it has to do with the Linking of the Fire ending, the Chosen Undead literally goes out with a bang. Maybe the explosion was strong enough to raze down Firelink from it's peak. There is also the possibility that all land masses are contracting into each other, as the lands converge towards Lothric and the Flame/Kiln

Keep in mind that time in the DS universe is tied to the first flame, and thereby convoluted. It sorta helps to see DS3 and the Ringed City DLC as two different "games".
For example, when you start the DLC, and arrive in the Dreg Heap, the architecture around you is that of Lothric, but broken (DS3). When you descend down this place, you arrive at a place that looks like the remains Harvest Valley castle (DS2). At the end, when you go all the way down, you end up at the remains of the original Firelink Shrine (DS1).
Lothric is intact when you start your play-through of DS3, so its destroyed state in the Dreg Heap can make one speculate:
The opening of the game states that as the fire fades, "the lands of the lords converge" This could mean that these "lands" are connected by the "memory" of the flame. Since the flame is fading, so does time, and it connects these places in the material. Solaire mentions this as well in DS1, he says that his world and yours converge at the moment, but in the next, that may no longer be the case (so he tells you how to summon people to your instance in time, your world). The only logic behind what particular places get "connected" to each other in this manner, is never explained. However, given the heavy emphasis on "souls" shaping the world around them (Lord souls especially so: Gwyn's with light, the Pygmy's with dark, the witch of Izalith's with Life, Nito's with Death), it's possible that "large souls" (bosses?) decide what places get connected, and in what time. This is what makes it possible for Manus (a Pygmy with a large part of the dark soul) to pull the chosen undead (DS1) into the "past" in the Artorias DLC. If you can get pulled into the past, why not the future? The Dreg Heap may be just that. A look into the future. The hag at the top of the Dreg Heap says "At the close of the Age of Fire, all lands meet at the end of the earth. Great kingdoms and anaemic townships will be one and the same."
This implies that all the lands that were relevant to the linking of the flame converge at the same spot when the flame fades. Firelink Shrine was relevant in DS1, Harvest Valley in DS2, and Lothric in DS3. In a sense, this is the result of the repeated linking of the flame. That's why in the background, you can see countless other buildings of different architectures continuing to converge. All of them, from the countless other times that someone linked the flame. Later in the DLC (at Geal's fight), you go even further into the future, and can see the ash wasteland that the continued linking of the flame has produced.
So...the real answer to your question is this: there is no timeline to understand better.
When the fire fades, that type of logical understanding of "progression" and "consequence" gets thrown out the window. In fact, some theories suggest that Gwyn essentially "broke" the world by linking the flame for the first time. The Untended Graves area's existence is an interesting thing to consider if that were true, but that would make this post even longer lol
The beauty of the way the lore is conveyed in the Dark Souls series is that you can make up your own theories. So, you can make up your own mind about it all :P

I wish that the original map from first game was left as it was and Dark Souls 3 just expanded the map without completely changing the layout of it, when I seen how Anor Londo did look I was really happy to see it because it was very similar to the original, even blacksmith was there, at least his body, but still the whole area around it was completely different which is strange to me and I wonder what happened, the game is not very good at story telling so I'm not sure why everything is so different and what exactly happened, FIrelink Shrine is also completely different, even the one from DLC is so much different
