funny, i just scrolled the comments and found one of mine from last year.. there should be more comments about this work of art. "8" dislikes? what the hell do these people want?
Have it preciously on CD ! Truly one of my all time best dj mix with an amazing track selection by Mr. Wink ! Had the chance to meet him in 2005 during my training period on a french distributor near Paris : always friendly and smiling ! A great person and on my top 10 producer and dj with Millsart, Hood, Surgeon, Slater, Garnier, Clarke, Sims, Temple, Mulero, Hawtin, Beltram, the Advent, Speedy j, Temple, Bicknell, DVS1, Technasia, Kraviz, Klock, Dettmann and Liebing.
Note to self Banging your head to this jam may cause : Soreness of the neck, head aches, loss of hearing , and an addiction of wanting more music like this !! 2022 No Music = No Life !
I remember going to see Josh Wink along with Jay Tripwire and John Digweed for Bedrock's 5th birthday party at Heaven, it was a banging night, I was living in Swansea as born and bred there and me and my mate Rhys thought we'd just skip uni, jump on a train and head up there, and afterwards just sleep in Paddington Station and jump on the first train home, can't believe that was 17/18 years ago! This CD is definitely in the shed!

If this brings nostalgia from 20 something years ago... i wonder what kind of nostalgia we will have after another 20 years.. will it feel the same as this nostalgia? Would it be better? Who knows. I guess it depends on how freely and happy you make yourself during these years. So remember kids... BE KIND PLEASE REWIND!!!! Ah!! What memories! The first track from Johannes Heil & Heiko Laux is a great intro to this amazin album. So deep and dark. It builds up very good from there.
Of all of the early mixes I bought on CD when I first got into electronic music around 1999, this is easily the oldest one that still not only holds up, but sounds fresh AF. It's like I have found a new reason to appreciate this mix (and Vol. 2) every time I have come back to it over a quarter century of partying and DJing. Wink was so vastly, infinitely ahead of his time with this sound that we might still be catching up to it. Back when no single genre had become a dirty word to some, when trance and techno and house and acid just all kinda meshed into each track because why not, no jokers had stood in the corner all night of a dance party hating on the DJ and made sent any forward-thinkers into a second-guessing tailspin with their self-assured idiocy. This mix has the kind of innocent, blind, full-on musical creativity that can only happen in the early stages of a new scene with a new type of music entirely oozing from all sides of every track and every mix. The icing is that Wink is still out there throwing down sets using "Are you there?" and "Gravity" and all the recognizable samples from his own body of work as the backbone and it all still works. The word "legend" does so little justice to what Josh Wink has given this music as a pioneer and a shepherd and now card carrying member of the Old School who is still living the music and bringing relevant music to the masses through his label Ovum and his Sirius XM show. What a fucking boss, I'm sure I'll be back in another 25 years with more to say.
I just went and listened to the "Sweat" track I found on discogs....there is no breakdown in the track like there is in this mix....He must have had a special version made for this mix, or he was doing some really insane effects behind the decks. Maybe he double dropped it back to the the intro? which is similar but actually is not at all the same as the discogs version you can find, so I tend to believe it is a special dub, or maybe there is a second track (with this version) that nobody has bothered to put out on youtube lol, damn I was hoping when I found it, it would be the version with that insane breakdown....the lights....the heat.....the SWEEEEEEAEAAAAATTTTT!!!. Masterpiece of rave culture. 20/10 mix.
