You’re never going to let the “I don’t watch your videos so I can watch you make a cup of tea” remark go, are you???? GOOD MAN!!!!!😁😂🤣
Personally, I enjoy that part as much as any other.😁

Funny thing about the "advancement" called shoes, is that in the time weve used them through the ages is that they have modified the way we walk/run for the worse. Most cases we think nothing of it... watch when those back, knee, and ankle troubles roll in. We should be landing with the ball of the foot first and then the heel comes to rest. Watch a small child walk/run particularly before theyve adapted to shoes. Shoes train you to strike heel first... which despite whatever comfort is built into the shoe is causing undue stress on your other joints.

Hello mate! Thank you for doing this video. And the one about resoling the desert boots. I grew up bare feet and wearing flip flops. And when shoes came in as the "civilised" and "modern" thing to do, I wore all sorts. And now beginning to feel the need to be in tune with my feet more acutely. I also have wide feet and finding the right pair of shoes is notoriously difficult. I wear an old pair of Pomar (Finnish) boots that i bought used. And a pair of old Timberlands. Also bought used. For long distance hiking I have been using a pair of Meindl wide. Other than the Meindl, I am now thinking of resoling both the Timberland and the Pomar with zero drop soles. I live in Finland and a few lugs certainly help. Vibram may have something that is close to what I want. Will go to the cobbler tomorrow. Keep walking. Keep enjoying the outdoors. Keep sharing with us. Cheers!

I have chewed off the tread on two pairs of those Vivo's, particularly on the heel because in the coastal region of Canada it's very soft but then you come across a lot of rock on trails so it eats those lugs right off and I now much prefer a more minimal tread in general.

It has been an interesting project. For myself, I tend to wear moccasins in the Summer months, made from buckskin, and mukluks for the Winter. Both flat soles, the latter having felt boot inserts. I much prefer the flat sole. Very cool project though, yep. :)

    Hallo Neil,
after being inspired by your video, I decided to "resole" my favourite Ugg boots (the most comfortable I have ever had)... The original sole was a bit of a challenge to get off, I ended up using a small angle grinder to get it flat! Worked a treat. Cheers ✌️
(I also, as a practice run, stuck some heels on my old worn at heel converse hi-tops... just took the rear couple of inches away (again with my trusty grinder, saves a bit of time and sweat!) and cut out the heel shape from an old pair of vivo barefoot shoes I was throwing away anyway. (the shoes were knackered but the sole was still good)
    Great stuff!

Thanks for this update as I noticed that your desert boots were extremely similar to mine in your previous video. I bought them in 2008 for a grumpies gap year 'Lonely Panet' backpacking tour, with an old RAF mucker, of part of India and then Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali then back home from Jakarta in Indonesia. They had no branding on them when I bought them for the trip from the Nomad store in Manchester, similar price, but I didn't take them in the end due to the weight of them, and because the commando pattern soles were too hard a plastic to make for comfortable walking more then a few miles (my feet have done a lot of long distance backpacking and trail walking; up to 45 miles in a day over four decades) and now they feel like I've done 30 miles permanently before I do anything in the morning... my footwear has to be spot on to cover longer distances now.... was Brasher, now Berghaus Supalites mostly, and I have the usual walking type trainers.
If they are the same as your's before you resoled them, the cream coloured soles are a hard plastic without any cushioning, so I used gel insoles with them, but they still weigh on a bit, indeed heavier than my leather Goretex lined Berghaus boots.
I'll be getting mine resoled to get them ready after watching this for use in fine weather, and fortunately, there's a local shop in town which cuts keys, sells bags and luggage and resoles shoes/boots at very reasonable prices. They'll put a Vibram sole on them, very similar to yours, but with a micro tread which shifts water for a tenner. That's the only time I think you might slip with those smoother soles on a smooth wet surface. I already have another pair of flat, not designed for walking/hiking boots, which I wear very regularly in everyday life which I had resoled with the Vibram sole, and they don't slip in the wet.
Re: The no heel and it getting to your heels when walking on hard surfaces. I have a couple of gel insoles designed o fit in the heel area, just extending to the beginning of the foot arch. They were made for the job, I can't remember the brand, but it's not too hard to make your own by cutting in half full insoles and shaving the front down with a sharp razor/craft knife. They'll add virtually no weight to your load and can be there to put in if your heels start getting tender.

Yeah nice thing to do. I have a couple of shoes and i have a lot of old tires laying arround. I've been thinking to combine them in to off road shoes. The tires are summer road tires so not the heavy winter tires. But they wont be as light weight as your shoes i'm afraid. But should give me plenty of grip in the bush. And i could go crazy and put on some corse offroad tires with the winter spikes. But that would be to much for my feet.

I somehow missed your original video, I've just gone back and watched it... funny thing is I've been looking at a similar project.

Aw man! I completely forgot that you made those. I just dropped off a pair of jungle boots to get re-soled the other day. $75 U.S. I tried asking for zero drop option but forgot what it was called, so I am just getting a regular re-sole with the heel. Now I feel like a heel, LOL. thanks for the videos Man, keep up the great work.

I TOLD VERY CLEARLY my Cobbler to rip off the sole and make my $200 setters a zero drop boot. Nope! He still found it easier to repair the soft mush cushion and slap on a very thin sole. I am pissed! $80 wasted. I have turned my ankle twice. We have to stand our ground with these guys and make them sign a work order that explains what we want.

The only draw back to these zero drops is that if you wear them you look like you robbed a hobos footwear
