This also is prevalent in Hispanic/ latinx cultures too. I remember being little my mom would tell me to not be playing in the sun too long or else I was going to become “prieto” if I stayed out in the sun too long.
“No, I think it’s the caste system, mother. Or perhaps because God scattered them after Nimrod tried to size up to Him by rounding up his people to build a tower that reached beyond the Ozone Layer.”
Love this movie, even now, after having watched it multiple times. Some of the cultural problems here are similar to what I faced as a Pakistani in the Netherlands. I love the humour and the feel good ending. Sometimes you need a feel good ending. :-)
There are many Sikhs in the San Francisco Bay area. I wonder how many uninformed people think they are Muslims due to the turban. By the way, the portrayal of Mr. Bamphra (spelling?) in his concern for his two daughters is inspirational and touching.
LOL 1:15 I'm a guy and not Indian, but I want to learn how to make dal. LOL This mom really cracks me up. In many ways, she reminds me of my mom with traditions.
An inspirational film about football, about female sports players and about Britain's multicultural society that unites two races as one. A film of so many wonderful morals and that's why it's one of the best of British cinema.
Isn't multicultural damaging though? I mean immigrants move to a foreign land and should adapt to the culture, but most don't, that's where the conflict is
@@weirdtemple1217 Not at all! As a white British guy saying this, completely disagree. Yes, people should adapt to cultures and languages of countries they live in and I believe that most do but they still deserve the same opportunities as everybody else. They still have the same capability to do the same jobs and complete the same courses as the standard white British person can. Everyone's conceived and born the same way, share the same organs and other things with the only difference being skin colour and being born or raised in a different country. We live in a society where there's more diversity and acceptance. I learn more from people of different backgrounds and having differences makes the world a more unique place whereas if we were all the same, it'd be boring. So, if anything, being less multicultural and what you're saying with that pre-historic thinking is damaging.
@@SJMJ91 Yes opportunities for everyone for sure, I understand and should be treated with respect, but many MANY immigrants leave their nest and move to a more developed country only for opportunities, but refuse to adapt to the culture, and when they have kids they criticize and shame them for being like the kids here and focing them to marry within their own people for example. Canada is a prime example of multiculturalism being damaging, like a white person is not allowed to say anything without being deemed a racist, immigrant culture is celebrated more than their own, any monuments have to be destroyed because it has a "racist past" for example. So this movie proves that immigrants move to Europe but won't adapt to the English culture and integrate and shame their kids for doing so, I mean if they don't like it why won't they move back home? Why live there anyways?
@@SJMJ91 Like Japan for example was thinking of mass immigration, that I am totally against 100%. Japan should never be like Europe or America, keep Japan for the Japanese
@@weirdtemple1217 Are they breaking any law, by not adapting your culture? Doesn't your constitution give them fundamental rights, to follow their own culture. If you go to India, you won't be forced to wear Indian clothes or not celebrate Christmas or Easter or any other festival you have. You won't be criticised for speaking your own language. There are many foreigners working here. No one forces them anything. Many foreigners come to India and wear Bikini in Goa. There are beaches where foreigners go nude. You won't see Indian girl wearing bikini here in India easily. No one says anything to them. And this is when India is under devloped. Broaden your mindset please.
These days the mother in law won't even let the daughter in the kitchen. Times have either changed or our family lied to us!! My mum never even lived with her in laws. So she only ly goosed for my dad n herself.
I HATE THAT IN THIS MOVIE HE COMPLAINS ABOUT HIS HOMELAND CULTURE BEING REJECTED ELSEWHERE. Then stay in the home country and don't be shocked when the country is not as acceptant of you if you do leave And don't try to force your closed minded beliefs on everyone else. Including your own child.
"Mum! She's a fashion designer!"
"She's divorced, that's what she is!"
LOLOLOL
'go far, go far to where?' LMAO hilarious man I love this film
"Look how dark you've become. Playing in the sun."
Yes, sadly a lot of Indians are obsessed with fair skin
It’s too bad that the caste system is still alive and kicking.

Sikhs DON`T have a caste system; it`s HINDUS that have that!
Love how the mom goes "Huh?" lol
@Ryan V. lmao! I always thought it was "HAAAAAH?" 😂😂🤣
"I won't play with boys anymore"
"Good"
"I've joined a girls team"
"Haaaaeeen?!?!"
Cracks me up 😂😂

“I’m joining a girls team” “he selected me. He you said girls”
I love the Bollywood wedding music at the end of this scene.

It’s not “Bollywood” music, Bollywood music refers to ones that are in Hindi movies. This is Bhangra music which is in Punjabi. 👍🏽
