39:55-40:08 Norm Macdonald really is the greatest. Its so refreshing to hear a comic tell a friend and fellow comic/entertainer "yeah, I watch all your shows." like damn thats a true friend right there and you can tell Norm was a little self conscious about admitting he was a fan of the show, he kinda just mumbles the words out almost under his breath... kinda reminded me of when he told Letterman he loves him, Normie telling Tom that he regularly watches his show was just as honest and pure hearted of a moment imo. Its one thing to be a casual fan of a peer and watch there work from time to time but to legit follow and support a peers content regularly like that goes to show Norm's not like the rest... I mean, the saddest part is that so many others that claim to be Normies friends, likely wouldnt spare a moment of time out of there day to watch and support him on his various tv shows that hes had over the years, the fact that he busted out a reference of a previous ep and then claimed to watch all of the TGL shows is soo damn awesome imo and just goes to show how truly supportive he is of those he calls friends. No comedians are regularly watching other comedians podcasts.. Rogan being the biggest exception and even then, his peers aint watching every ep of JRE... and they especially werent watching along during the early days as he figured things all out. and yes I understand that at the time Tom was way ahead of the game and doing something that no one else really was doing... so the landscape was different then today where everyone and there grandma has a podcast and im sure there were many more comedians regularly watching TGL then Tom realizes... with his show being so off the walls all the time, im sure a bunch of comedians found entertainment from TGL at the time but that said, its still quite fascinating to me that Norm was so supportive and entertained by Tom that he himself was admittedly regularly watching TGL at the time. Final thought, Imagine if once Norm hadve web called or simply phone called into the show to ask a guest a few questions off of his own mind, being a regular watching fan himself... that wouldve be so epic and awesome to see!
The Stowy wit a twist was very easy to get😂 wtf pretty simple guys "tom" "tom" "tom" "tom" "tom" "tom" " did you understand ?" "Tom" "tom" "tom" "not until I explained it"😂😂 nope' we got it😂and I kind of get it probably takes a bit to get Tom's attention cuz he wants to do 5 things at once lol let's get another caller. Rick play a song. Norm, tell a joke. I'll beat box. Lol
It's weird that Dan the Automator used that break at the beginning on a Dr. Octogon record, then later Gorillaz used it on a track with Del, whom has worked so much with Automator.
Around 126:30 when Simon is going on and on about how neither Tom or the audience understood Norm's Stoli/story joke, I was thinking to myself shut up already everyone understands the jokes premise/punch... being that its a fairly simple and basic play on words/stereotypes... Turns out Simons actually had a good read on the room and was correct that no one else was understanding the bit, and he even gets Tom to admit he didnt understand the joke at all... though that could be in part to booze and his various distractions of hosting but still was surprising to me that such a basic joke seemed to have flew over everyones head to the point that Simons had to call it out. Also is it just me or is anyone else curious if thats a street joke written by Norm or just a classic street joke he decided to do?... I know Norm does street jokes on late night shows from time to time and im always left a little confused and wondering if there originals written by him or if part of the bit is that hes doing a common street joke most folks have heard... but being a fan of Norm Macdonald Live and being familiar with the joke reading segment of NML and just the fact that Norm is a masterful comedic writter, I fully assume any of the street joke type of material he does on shows are throw away street jokes written by Norm himself, unless stated otherwise... and by throw away, I just mean its a joke he'd never use on stage but has in his pocket/arsenal ready to be pulled out on radio shows, late night shows, pod interviews etc whenever the right moment arises.
