I never cared for Joan Rivers type of humor. She insulted people constantly but would fire back viciously when someone insulted her. I'm not a fan of Oprah either but I understand how she felt way back then.
Joan's entire sense of humour was based around self depreciation - I've never known her to fire back when someone insulted her. She was always in on the joke.

Check out her reactions when someone criticized the way she dresses. Also, her comments to criticism were actually her lashing out, they may have seemed funny to people with the same sense of humor but they were intended to hurt. Ask her husband, he'll tell ya all about it.

I lost 90 pounds in 2017 and have kept the weight off for 7 years. Trust me, it isnt' easy. I'm a food addict. And so is Oprah. Oprah doesn't need medications. She need to go into a food addict program modeled on AA like I did. It changed my life. It would change her life too.
1. Joan didn't say or do anything that isn't Classic Joan. She says it like it is. Not matter how rude it seem.
2. You've openly discussed your weight problems. That make interviewers feel like they can also talk about it.
3. I've seen you do worse on your own talk show.
4. There are really more important things in life to complain about than a rude comment someone made 40 years ago.
5. GET OVER IT!!! You are in the public eye. People will talk about you.

Joan Rivers was a funny woman but on some topics she was very awful and disgusting and I'm not talking about the Oprah thing.
She also fat shamed Jo, Blair, Natalie and Tootie calling their show "The Fats of Life" ya don't hear them currently bringing up a joke made decades ago. (and they were teenagers!)

Oprah actually remembered the entire experience wrong. If you watch the interview that Oprah recently gave, she says that Joan use the word fat. Joan never said fat. Oprah also never told Joan that she ate a lot of potato chips. It was Oprah, who mentioned that she gained 50 pounds, to which Joan replied, How did you gain the weight? Oprah created this entire memory in her head and has been walking around with it for 40 years.
Joan was such a despicable person, not that Oprah is a saint herself... but using "humour" as an excuse to be a mean and nasty person is so pathetic.
Joan Rivers was an example of when a school bully grows up to have a nice and successful life... a harsh reminder that life is not fair.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - Oprah's show was demeaning and shameful for many overweight people. Joan was a comedian and a good one at that - she was simply asking Oprah a question and encouraging her to be her best. The fact was Oprah gained a lot of weight during this period, and Joan was asking what the public was thinking. She didn't drag it out for a 60 minute psychology special, unlike someone.

I agree with Joan. Oprah should be glad Joan was concerned about her. Food has been too important to Oprah. First she said lied saying it was Weight Watchers and then gummies but all along it was meds to lose weight. Why lie about it and now she is out of Weight waters as a board member. You talk about helping others and being a mentor but you are only in it for yourself and the money. In your role you could have counselled Meghan and help her understand how difficult it would be for her to adapt to a new culture and in particular with the Royal Family but you instead supported her in trashing her extended family and now her own children will not reap the benefits and richness of having grandparents and extended family.
