We all miss Walter so much - one of the best albums out there is 'Circus Money'. Makes me smile with joy everytime I listen to it.
My favourite of the Dan's solo albums
Wow! Studio Jams has a new studio. 👍👍👍👍
What a beautiful tribute to Walter Becker. "Do it Again" was my entry point into the world of Steely Dan. I listened to this song, literally, thousands of times. "The American version of Lennon/McCartney" is the most apt description of the Becker/Fagen pairing in all of their creative genius. I don't use that word lightly.
Best band ever....
Just exquisite. The guy who says Walter and Donald and the US Lennon and Macca is right on the money.
"The guy" is Keith Carlock and the Steely Dan drummer for almost 20 years...
Guitar and sax solos: the feel, and Beck-level every note perfection; the chords in the horn section like homage to the progressions Fagen and Becker would finally use in the songs they were waiting to record … great work, guys.
When Keith was talking about Walter I teared up-I had realized how much I truly loved Walter and his witty sense of humour and intelligence-we will never forget the man SD forever!!
Bad ass sax playing
Going thru amps and tubes..lol I can, just imagine..the level of dedication unmatched
That's musical perfection. My favorite group of all time. Fell in love with them in 1978.
I needed this today & every day forward......Changes all life perspectives for the best
Steely Dan -it just doesn’t get any more genuine and superb than that- enough said😎
There will never be another band like steely dan,I always say my favourite song is hey nineteen but listen they all great how can I pick one RIP Walter becker.
Steely Dan was their own genre of the 20th century musical landscape! Props! Becker and Fagen would tip their hats 🎩 ❤
Emily Dickinson once said "That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet." And then youtube happened. Now we can watch great moments from the past over and over. Thanks for the upload.!
cycoklr and life is consequently sour
This is a very nice rendition of a Steely classic. Great work fellows.
Another great performance! Thank you
Steely Dan = Phenomenal Music. Great job with this cover. Enjoyed it.
I couldn’t wait for the next Steely Dan album to come out. I wore each album to the nub..
Scot Cunningham ...funny, but I had a much different experience. As a fan since “Can’t Buy A Thrill” came out and was climbing the charts in ‘72 through to the long-awaited release of Aja in ‘77, they were the “King(s) of the World” for me, and yes, I bought each and every album upon it’s release. Honestly, I thought there was no way in hell that Aja could be topped. Then Gaucho came out, and they blew me away with that one. But knowing that there was all this internal conflict with their record label, the legal battle that was waged upon the band by MCA, (who bought out the remains of ABC Records, and claimed they were still owed another album contractually...) I knew Gaucho wasn’t the record originally intended to be heard by the record-buying public, and they just released what was approved by the MCA corporate executives in charge of those decisions, with the blessings of the Board of Directors...it was all deeply discussed in a Rolling Stone magazine article in 1980...very anti-artist kind of stuff. It left a bad taste in my mouth for the product that was coming out, and the fans were forced to PAY MORE for it! (Gaucho clocks in at less than 40 minutes! They were charging $10/an album...) Anyway, I was starting to get very disgusted by this practice, and started to buy less and less vinyl from all artists I liked at the time. It then took more than 20 years for another Steely Dan record to come out, and upon it’s release, I just wasn’t excited by it, after hearing it in it’s entirety. To me, it just wasn’t up to par...sorry, but Two Against Nature isn’t the amazing body of work I waited all that time to hear! It’s certainly not on par with anything else they’ve ever released....and they started to lose me since that one came out. But re-listening to their early catalog and both Fagen and Becker’s solo and side projects never gets old. Anything past Gaucho? I can take it or leave it....but that’s just me.
I have three copies of Aja!
Light !
At the end of the tunnel
- AMEN -
Awesome on so many levels !
Thank you, Marti. What, in particular, dig you dig?
The short list would include the brilliant performances of all the players and the arrangement. A wonderful tribute to such a monster talent !
super good
Great!
I concur........ can't say more. Okay......... special.
Those extra changes are like retouching a Picasso.
Yeah. They could’ve used it on every other 8-bar phrase instead of every 4th. It kind of takes away from the dramatic chord changes at the chorus.
Came here to say this too.
You cannot compare to Lennon & McCartney ! - These are great don't get me wrong ! - But Becker & Fagen - Wow ! - These guys are something else !
The more you learn about the lengths they go to put that note onto your vinyl on a certain scale at a certain place an a certain time - While singing lyrics about some guys old memoribilia - You have got to admire these guys !
I love em - What a Group / Band ? - I don't know what to call them ? A collaboration ? Maybe ? -Fagen & Becker -Still something else -Whatever you call em !!!
...Thanks for sharing this very illuminating - Love the vavles bit !
Steve Birks ...I’ve called them: “Brothers from different Mothers, but they think in unison...
A 2-headed Musical Perfection Beast...the best American songwriting duo of my generation...” They were different. They expanded the musical universe for me as a young man. To me, pop music wasn’t listenable any longer after discovering the land that Steely Dan forged for me in ‘72...it’s hard to convey that message to everyone, but “silly love songs” weren’t relevant anymore....
Not sure why most of my comment shows with a line strike....??????
FM Anyone?
'American version of Lennon and McCartney' = great idea
Who the downvoted this? 😂.
Steely Dan have a unique quality
