    There is a hidden pocket in the Daily Plus - near the top of the frame sheet is a Velcro area that opens and you can store a AirTag there. It works but not as eloquent as AER slot.

      I like how difficult it is to get to. If someone does a cursory search to try to remove a tracker they'll likely miss it. So it's perfect for an Airtag that only needs to be placed once or have the battery replaced yearly. Also great as an emergency cash pocket.

    The Daily Plus gives off an Arcteryx 'Blade' kind of vibe. Slick and minimalistic carrying just the essentials. Good looking bags and dig the olive color!

    That looks like a nice bag.
    If I need my laptop, I use a Vanquest Gofer-15, although I wish I would have opted for the smaller 13. For my EDC bag, or my "man bag" according to my wife, I recently swapped out a Vanquest Dendrite large for an old school Vanquest Mobius 2.0. I find the Mobius to be more comfortable to carry.

    Hi Josh, I think you should review the Nitecore BP18. I've been using this bag for almost 2 years now, and it's incredibly good. I think a lot of people miss it because it's just a tactical backpack. If you could do a review of it, that would be really cool. Just a couple of hours ago, I ordered the Able Carry Daybreaker 2 to replace my Nitecore BP18. I believe they are very similar. I was just looking for a bag with a more urban look, a larger capacity and a better harness than the Nitecore BP18. I wonder what you will think about how similar these two bags actually are if you review the Nitecore BP18!

    • @joshfenn

      Not a huge fan of the tactical style but I can definitely keep this in mind for the future! Got a couple of bags I’m testing right now for upcoming videos but adding this to the list to keep an eye on. Hopefully the daybreaker works well for you as an alternative/replacement!

    Really interested in this one. Is it awkward to open with a water bottle in the pocket? At 3:44, it kind of looks clumsy. Any tips welcome! Thanks for the channel. I love your calm understated and spot-on reviews!

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  11 місяців тому +1

      The pocket works well, not too clumsy or difficult to use imo. It ends up being awkward trying to get the angles and positioning right to film it but in real world use I haven’t had an issue.
      Thanks for the support, glad you’re enjoying the videos!

    Hi Josh! How would you compare access to the main compartment in both backpacks? I own Able Carry Daily (1st gen) and I find it difficult to access objects on the bottom of the main compartment when it's pretty tightly packed. I believe it's because of the stiffness of the backpack. I was considering Daybreaker 2 for that reason, but I'm afraid it's not really better in that terms (any clamshell opening backpack would be perfect, but I haven't found anything worth consideration). What were your impressions?

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  8 місяців тому

      The new daybreaker is a bit easier I’d say, the updated version extends the zipper on one side almost all the way to the bottom. Since it’s way less structured I think it helps with access a bit as well.
      Not to add more confusion to the decision with another option, but your clamshell comment reminded me of the evergoods cpl 24. A bit of a different style and vibe but extremely easy access with the zipper design. Just got one and have been testing for the past month, might be something for you to consider. Should hopefully have a video out sometime soon!

      @BigMaaaaaaan 8 місяців тому

      @@joshfenn Looking forward to the review, but I think this might be a little overkill - too expensive for a hiking backpack, more suitable as an EDC. But recently I found out that they have also MPL22. This looks like a direct competitor of the Daybreaker with clamshell opening of the main compartment. Unfortunately for me I don't like the general composure of the bag - a little firmness would be an advantage.

    Great review! Currently running a 3-year-old Bellroy Apex but the pocketing arrangement isn’t optimal for my use. Considering their new Bellroy Venture Ready Pack 26L, but the Able Daily Plus is a contender if I can work with the smaller capacity.

    • @HarimaKenji22
      @HarimaKenji22 Рік тому

      How do you find the apex after 3 years? Kinda looking to get it in Raven just because it looks good and versatile for the office and gym stuff

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! Never tried the apex myself, but my Bellroy sling was pretty solid. The daily plus definitely feels small, but if your carry is light enough it quickly became a favorite for me.

    • @JM2084
      @JM2084 Рік тому +1

      @@HarimaKenji22 It’s very comfortable, carries like a smaller bag but the flap top allows it to have the capacity of a big bag. I use it often for bike commuting. It has a few okay small pockets for organization, but I wish it had some medium-sized pockets as well. Some durability concerns: the flap edges are wearing in an ugly way (not in a cool patina way), and they went with too small of a zipper on either side of the main compartment - it has gotten misaligned previously in normal use.

  • @AtlasPainkiller

    Do you have any recommendations for an office/travel backpack Josh? Tried the bellroy transit, and I really hated how small all the pouches were.

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  Рік тому +1

      Not sure what capacity you’d be aiming for, but the daily plus in this video or city pack pro from AER are both solid choices for 20-25L. Something larger could be the Chrome Bravo (simple but large) or the AER Travel Pack but that probably wouldn’t be ideal for office use. Hope this helps!

  • @MaeSekou
    @MaeSekou Рік тому

    What’s the difference between X-21 and X-42 and do you think AER makes a better quality bag?

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  Рік тому +1

      Both are extremely similar in my experience with real world use, but the 21 is a bit thinner compared to the 42. For non outdoor use I think the main reason for companies using one or the other is the color options from the fabric manufacturer.
      AER and Able are two of my favorite brands, I’d say they’re pretty evenly matched in terms of quality with the main differences being the design choices.
      Hope this helps!

    Hey! How do you find the Daybreaker 2 carries when full - wondering about the comfort on a lightweight bag?

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  Рік тому +1

      I think it carries really well for an ultralight style of backpack. I’d say you’re probably good up to 20lb/9kg, more than that you’d probably want to look at a fully padded backpack like the daily plus. For the weight and style though, I think it holds up to a full load really well

    • @derricklim2355
      @derricklim2355 9 місяців тому

      @@joshfenn Following up on this question. Does the heavier weight of the daily plus show when its fully packed? I currently use a AER Gym Backpack (1.15kg) and I found heavy/tiring to lug around the city all day, also gets hot with all that heavy padding. And how packable is the daily plus? Been trying to find reviews that squish it flat but hardly any reviews does that.
      I lean more to the daybreaker 2 but my only concern is that it doesn't have a larger quick access pocket from the front. My use cases are more to city shopping and hikes.

    • @joshfenn
      @joshfenn  9 місяців тому +1

      The daily plus definitely has a bit of weight and structure to it even when empty, I’d say it’s pretty similar to most AER bags I’ve tested over the years in that aspect. The daybreaker is much lighter weight and much more Packable, the daily plus isn’t really designed for packability/compression. Hope this helps!
