America is also socialistic yet they are so in a very strange way.

I wish people had this mindset in normal years when people argue that kids with colds should be sent to school if their parents can't afford to take time off even though that runs the risk of that cold passing to a kid who lives with someone medically vulnerable who could die. Only when general society feels at risk are we suddenly so worried about 100-year-olds being "robbed" of life. It's not worry for them. It's worry for yourself. If the worry was for others, then you'd advocate for masks and distancing being permanent so that people like me are kept safe in normal years. Surely the cost of my life is worth the permanent inconvenience to protect me, right?
I've lived the last 28 years with a chronic illness making a large chunk of every year risky to my life, and society is looking forward to going back to that once you feel safe. That "for others" part will be forgotten when you feel safe enough to not want to be inconvenienced for people like me. I care as much about your life as you cared about mine at the beginning of last year, when you wouldn't have worn a mask or isolated yourself to make sure not to risk passing to me something you didn't know you had. Only when YOU felt at risk did you suddenly "care" about me, and when you don't, you will go back to the old life that will put me back at risk. Thanks for that care, buddy....

How? If you can figure out a way to get around the impasse in The Senate, you have my vote. Currently, you have to have sixty votes to get almost anything done because of the bizarre rules involving cloture. The Democrats have, at most, 51 - for the few things Manchin will vote for - just enough to allow them to perform the tasks that don't demand cloture. They don't even have enough votes to change the rules as at least one moderate republican (the aforementioned Manchin) is currently serving as a Democrat and won't be part of the 51 votes require to change the rules.
We have gotten to the point where we have to have The Presidency, a majority in The House, and a supermajority in The Senate to get anything progressive done.

There’s nothing inherently immoral in a person having a billion dollars. The problem is that most billionaires do not use that money towards useful or moral ends for society. @@danumd87 "they COULD do lots of good with it, so it's unreasonable to criticize them for doing evil with it" is also not a reasonably sound or irrefutable argument, frankly. would you also argue we shouldn't reform police or reduce their funding, because they could potentially do a lot of good with their power and money if most cops were good people? that's a fantasy.
the progressive argument, and my personal viewpoint, is that the very state of being a billionaire is itself only possible if you have traits of sociopathy and narcisissm that make you inclined towards decisions that benefit you and your company, even at the cost of consequences to other people.
therefore, it's inherently dangerous to allow them the nearly-unlimited financial, social, media, and political influnce they currently enjoy, because they are both a class making all the world's big decisions AND a class protected and insulated from any negative consequences of those decisions. they can choose to move the world forward in whatever way benefits their personal ambitions and companies and dreams, fobbing off and ignoring the way their pursuits might have unintended consequences on people in the poorer classes - even if what they decide to do is ostensibly "good".
consider Bill Gates, go-to "good billionaire" example - who only is such because he's spent the past decade buying his way into being the spokesperson for various positive organizations and relief efforts, in order to reform his public image. he spent the 80s and 90s being abusive and terrible to his employees, and is directly responsible for crippling the IRS's ability to prosecute high-level white collar crime because they were stripped of funding after Microsoft sued them - but we've forgotten, because it's been overshadowed by his philanthropic efforts AND the conspiracy theories based on those efforts. Bill Gates has chosen to do good things with his money because it benefits HIM, and if the winds change, he and every other billionaire wouldn't hesitate for a second to sacrifice you and I in order to protect themselves and their revenue.
or at least, that's what I believe. and if f*cking BILL GATES is the best example of a moral billionaire, and nearly every single one of the 600-odd others is a horrible selfish monster, I'm not willing to bank on letting them keep their power because they might someday spontaneously become good people and use that power well! that's a naive dream.

That's probably the Republican's argument against universal healthcare. If all people eligible for universal healthcare were stacked on top of each other, it would reach too far into space.
However, if all the people who they plan on taking voting rights away from were stacked, that would also reach into space, but then it would obviously be a good thing.

it's been proven time and again that term limits actually increase the power of lobbyists and do not improve results for the people.
as with everything else, we the people should make up our minds about what we want to achieve, but we should listen to scientific expertise about how we achieve it (political science, in this case). term limits are the wrong move.

He's so nationalistic, invoking that this country was founded on Democracy -- when in reality it was an oligarchy of land-owning white men. That's what MAGA was about.
