I think the implication is even worse than that, actually. Eren *could* have prevented the Rumbling. But whenever he came to one of the moments he had foreseen, he always made the same decision he predicted, because to do otherwise would’ve been counter to his nature. For instance, Eren foresaw that he would save Ramzi from being beaten up. He *could* have let Ramzi be beaten up by the merchants. But Eren hates injustice with a fiery passion, so when the moment actually came, he couldn’t help but save Ramzi. Eren wasn’t so much a slave to destiny, he was more a slave to his own nature. So in the end, it’s more like “I become the worst mass murderer in history, and it’s ultimately because of my own choices”.

Idk if this will help your view on it but I think in theory had Connie, Jean, and Sasha not found them that Eren would have pressed Mikasa for a better answer. He only looking disappointed when Jean n them arrived not after Mikasa gave her half assed answer. Eren is a smart guy he saw her blushing and stuttering so he knows it he just wanted to hear it.

tbh i dont think that would have stopped the rumbling from happening... eren already knew how mikasa felt and he would have pressed on for a better answer but the others found them, he definitely knew that mikasa loved him bcz of her blushing and stuttering imo- i think it would have added fuel to the fire if she confessed ngl. eren was just confirming the future, its mikasa who thought that if she gave a diff answer the rumbling would not have happened.
