Check out this first time watching this horror 80's movie reaction video for Puppet Master and see if I can make it through this action movie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my Halloween movie viewings consist of Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. This year I decided to expand my horror movie knowledge and try and watch these horror movie fan favourites.

Regarding the effects, they did a mix of stop motion and on set puppeteering. The stop motion was done by David Allen, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Young Sherlock Holmes.
They made many sequels, over a dozen at least. I like Puppet Master 3 the best, where it gives a lot of backstory.
The old puppeteer at the beginning is played by veteran character actor William Hickey, who appeared in films such as Prizzi's Honor, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, and was the voice of Dr. Finklestein in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
And the grandfather in One Crazy Summer!
I thought he was very charming in "My Blue Heaven."
He was also funny as the drunk in Mel Brooks: The Producers (1968)
I think he was in (Stephen King's?) *Black Cat* and perhaps *Tales From the Crypt.* and maybe others.
& Tales from the Crypt ‼️
The Puppets. Blade, Pinhead, Tunneler, Leech Woman, and Jester. For the scenes of Pinhead strangling people or grabbing them. They had someone actually in the gloves doing it. Yeah there are a LOT of Puppet Master movies. They later introduce Torch, Sixshooter, and some other puppets to the mix. All of them are low budget fun films.
I got the whole series. On DVD
I honestly love the concept of the dolls being either good or evil depending on who owns them.
"I'm the master, and you're the puppet!"
Fun Fact: The Blade puppet required five puppeteers to operate.
Location Location Fact: The Bodega Bay hotel was a miniature; which was built about the size of a refrigerator. When the filmmakers found a perfect location, they hung the model in the air and used combinations of force perspective in the way to make the hotel appear as if it was actually there.
Lovely Smile Fact: Leech Woman's mouth is made of foam latex, which makes the mouth appear to be more flexible whenever Leech Woman "coughs" up a leech. Only three quarters of the leech mechanism comes out of the puppet, and then a simple camera cut creates the illusion that an entire leech comes out of Leech Woman's mouth.
Master Hands Fact: Pinhead's fists during the punching scenes are actually the fists of dwarf stunt woman Cindy Sorensen, who had to wear the same fingerless gloves and sweater sleeve to make it appear that it's the fist of Pinhead. Cindy cited the most difficult part of those scenes was to keep her head ducked the whole time while holding the Pinhead puppet on her shoulders and give off false punches at the same time.
The Birds did take place in Bodega Bay. This movie always creeped me out. Great reaction!
Andre Toulon at the start was played by William Hickey. He was Uncle Louis in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
In the first movie the puppets don't even have names. They were given names in the later movies. There is leechwoman, pinhead, blade, tunneler and jester.
Their names are actually listed in the trailer for the original movie.
There are like 10 movies in the franchise. The third one covers the story of the old man that killed himself at the beginning of the film. You understand who these puppets are and why they act the way they do. Also each movie generally has this set of puppet characters and one or two different ones If you've seen the movie American Graffiti the actor that played Alex was in that movie.
Namely Paul LeMat, who was also good as the first half of 1980's cute "Melvin and Howard".
However, new hands bought out Full Moon Pictures after the VHS era, they slid downhill fast, and anything after Puppet Master IV is squarely in the realm of "Cheap name-only fake direct-video horror sequel".
The 10th one came out in 2010, weve got about 16 films now.
Great to see you back with another reaction video to another horror film, Jen! 😁 And one from my favorite decade, the 1980s! lol
No, The Puppet Master is not based on an original story or book, it's an original story written for the screen and directed by the creative team that did earlier horror films like Tourist Trap, The Seduction, Crawlspace, and Catacombs.
Charles Band's Empire Pictures and Full Moon was like the 50's Roger Corman of the VHS 80's:
He had a thing for creepy stop-motion and puppets, but almost anything the two companies did in the mid-80's (I'll add "Re-Animator", "Trancers" and "Troll", no, not the second one) managed imaginative, clever, and occasionally messed-up creeps on a B-movie-going-to-video budget.
I've seen a few of these, though I never really got into the franchise. I must say, I appreciated that it was one of the weirder premises in the genre.
Paul La Mat also plays in “American Graffiti “. Which is a fantastic movie!! He is also in “the night they saved Christmas” with Art Carney who plays Santa Clause, which is kinda cheap and cheesy so you may want to watch that this coming Christmas!!! ITS A DELIGHT!!!
Fun fact: the Blade puppet is visually based on actor Klaus Kinski. Director David Schmoeller had worked with him Crawlspace and it was help so this was his payback.
he also Looked like Richard Lynch who was in a later puppet master film
Every time I watch this channel, I have a dream at night where I am out in public, suddenly realize I am naked and immediately run into Jen who says Oh Myyyy!
Puppetmaster is a HUGE franchise. In total there are 15 movies, the latest of which literally just released a few days ago.
Unfortunatly most people seem to agree that it peaked with the 3rd. There's a few more at least decent ones but yeah they really just milked it dry.
7:33 This fellow is well-known television and b-film star, Paul LeMat. A couple of his other works I really enjoyed was the Canadian animated film "Rock & Rule," (1983) and the very ridiculous crime-comedy, "Easy Wheels" (1989).
I love this film, is it Comedy, it has funny moments, the lady having the reading in the psychics is Barbara Crampton clothed for once LOL
Full moon has a lot of movies like this.
The Puppet Master series has sequels and prequels.
One of them is puppet master vs demonic toys
Demonic toys has also multiple entries in full moon. more entries are.
Killjoy
Trancers
Dollman
Subspecies
Evil bong
Gingerdead man.
Some more suggestions for you
Ghoulies
C.H.U.D.
Night Shadows (1984)
Loved your reaction to another 80's movie. Looking forward for the next one.
I watched a lot of these Full Moon Entertainment movies in the '90s. The "Subspecies" series is really good.
Puppet Master, Trancers, Subspecies, Dollman, Demonic Toys, Killjoy, GingerDead Man, Evil Bong & Prehysteria franchises from Full-Moon were entertainingly cheesy but a whole lot of fun. ✌️
@@MLJ7956 They are fantasticly bad fun.
@@LordVolkov - Fo sho...
When you saw that Full Moon Features label, you knew you were in for some low budgeted, wild storylines, mediocre acting, maybe some T&A, mixed effects, decent soundtracks and lots of crazy cheesy fun....Charles Band always gave his fans what they wanted and come to expect from a full moon movie. 😎👍
@@MLJ7956 "The Pit and the Pendulum" was my favorite movie from Full Moon. The one big negative with Full Moon was the fan club. I joined it, but never received a single newsletter. I kept writing demanding my money back but never heard from the company.
My friend Paul plays Alex in this film. I will share it with him. You must see his perfect performances in George Lucas' AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973).or Floyd Mutrux's ALOHA, BOBBY AND ROSE (1975) and 2 films by Jonathan Demme m, who directed Silence if the Lambs, CITIZENS BAND aka HANDLE WITH CARE (1977) and MELVIN AND HOWARD (1980).
Well, maybe not since you said the acting is so bad, haha.
Lot of great memories with this series. And with Full Moon in general,
Such a good movie and glad to see you doing movies again on the youtubes👍
Thanks for watching!
@@ReelReviewsWithJen next time fo the star wars holiday special 🕺
14:01-this scene scared me so bad as a kid and still scares me now. I watched it over again recently to see how I would react as an adult. Same reaction as before. Sickening! This scene goes on and on too. Agreed it is horrific.
There is a science fiction novel called The Puppet Masters by Robert Heinlein, but it has nothing to do with this movie.
The main puppets are Blade, Pinhead, Leech Woman and The Tunneler.
@ 10:51 "that poor transcriber" 😅😄
Yes, Bodega Bay is a real town in California, Jen. It's located just 67 miles/108 kilometers north of the San Francisco bay area.
It is also the setting for Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds ✌️
@@MLJ7956 Yes, Jen already knows. She already watched The Birds. 😁
You’d enjoy “Dolls” (1987)
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊 Today is my birthday!
I'm 32 this year!
Happy Birthday! Thanks for watching, you too!
I see your comments so often, I would be remiss not to wish you a very happy birthday! I'm glad you were born.
Own this and all the sequels! One of my fav Guilty Pleasures!
You really should poke around the Full Moon rabbit hole. The Trancers series with Tim Thomerson, and occasionally Helen Hunt, is great fun, and Dollman with Thomerson and Jackie Earle Haley is a classic.
Jen, you're not a wuss at all. There are other reactors who are MUCH bigger wusses than you. Some of them freakout and whine throughout the entire movie, about how much they hate it, and hate having to watch it.
This is Full Moon's biggest franchise. There are 11 movies total in the series, a crossover with the Demonic Toys franchise, and a 2018 reboot.
if you enjoyed Puppet Master you will def LOVE Tourist Trap 1979. Same director
There's at least 13 of these Puppet Master movies
love to see people react to Old film, you should watch Old European film from 50-70s. Some are very fascinating. I recommend Federico Fellini. La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, La Dolce Vita, 8½ and Amarcord sequentially.
the one with the human hands is named Pinhead, i think i maye prefer this one to the other pinhead we all know, the one with the blade is called Blades, the one that the face spins is the jester, the one with a drill for a head is tunneller, and the female is leech woman/lady
you would have to see some of the later films to understand WHY they are made with weapons, the 2nd on is good, Puppetmaster 3 goes into the puppets backstory
I suggest you watch the following films:
Look Away, 2018
Brimstone 2016
Girl in the Basement 2021
my little princess 2011
Compliance, 2012
Hounddog 2007
Miss Violence 2013
Wait til you get to Retro Puppet Master, starring a pre-"The Room" Greg Sestero! Personally, the only ones in this saga I can stand are Part 3, "Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys" (not a great film, but, comparatively, a masterpiece), and, by far the best, "Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich", written by Craig S Zahler, director of the brilliant "Bone Tomahawk" and "Brawl in Cell Block 99".
I’m guessing the people who wanted the old man alive wanted him for something darker. Not just to bring the dog back
"Are there sequels?"
Oh boy! It's a Charles Band/Full Moon production, so there are a million sequels and prequels out there. Full Moon Pictures and Charles Band are notorious for cheaply churned out sequels, bad acting, and a lot of horror fun.
For some vampire schlock, try Subspecies, and for the Raimi bros in front of the camera, 1989's Intruder.
I seem to recall having dreams that would later really happen, when I was very small. it wasn't anything odd or unusual that I dreamt, just images that I'd see, and think, "Oh, I dreamed that last night.' When I told adults about it, they told me it was just deja vu, and had to explain the term to me. I was pretty sure that wasn't what was happening, but I gave up tryng to talk about it. I feel like it pretty much stopped by the time I was 7 years old.
So is this your first Full Moon video?!
Yea, there are several sequels and some prequels. They are kind of all over the place. But it is still an interesting franchise.
Jen, it's official. You are no longer a wuss.
15:21 - there's only two real ways Leech Woman could get those leeches out. This is the better option
LOL!
Cool reaction as always Jen, how about reacting to Eve Of Destruction (1991), take care and Happy Halloween sweetie and most of all, cheese and rice 🥰🎃
I just caught that one! What a wild movie.
You should react to puppet master 2
Speaking of 80s movies do you like romantic comedy,? If so I would suggest splash mannequin mischief who's that girl and a sure thing
Oh please watch the sequels and Demonic Toys!
oh this is just the beginning. wait till you see what the other puppet master movies are like. there are new puppets that join in on the franchise in later films. the timeline of the puppet master movies don't go in order. the puppets are leech woman who spits out the leeches. jester who spins his head around to reveal A smile or a frown depending on his mood. pinhead who is the one with the big hands and small head. tunneler who has the drill on his head. and then there is blade with the hook as one hand and a knife as the other. in puppet master 3 a new puppet by the name of six shooter shows up who is a cowboy puppet with six arms and shoots using six guns in each hand and he cackles and laughs and then in puppet master 2 there is a puppet named torch who has glowing red eyes and bullets as teeth and his head is kinda shaped like a weared helmet and he has a flamethrower as a right hand which is why he is called torch and he growls alot and is the most strict one of the group.
This is unrelated to this movie, but to a reaction you did a while ago. I liked your reaction to the first Phantasm film. Do you plan on reaction to the other ones? If so, then imo 2-4 are definitely worth watching. They’re so good & it’s hard to pick a favorite. 5 is not so good & kinda ends the franchise on a bad note. But 2-4 are really good & might answer questions you had from the first one … kinda, I mean they never really answer many questions in this franchise but they touch on some of the questions & theories.
Hey jen, great reaction as always, yeah definitely a cult classic from the 80s, nice to see again. Anyways happy Halloween, hope you enjoy and have a good one. Thanks. ☺😎👍🎃📺🎬🎥📀📼🎧
Will you do the other movies from this franchise?
I’ll add them to the list! Thanks for the suggestion!
@@ReelReviewsWithJen you’re welcome!
👻great
watch the movie "my little princess" 2011 .
i would like to recommend the movie *From Hell* (2001) with johnny Depp
