It doesn't get any better than that folks. Talent and class at its finest! Timeless! Loved your reaction and comments. These two wonderful ladies had so much admiration for each other and worked so well together. You can see Karens admiration In her eyes and there is a point when Karen walks up and I do believe Ella says "I love your voice". Karens face glows with a big smile. RIP to these two wonderful women.
Karen used to sing at the church in Los Alamitos I attended as a teen. Her brother, Richard, was the organist and would take breaks, while the sermon was being delivered, behind the church. I would escape from my Sunday school class and meet him at his car. We would talk and listen to music for a short time until he needed to return. He was a very nice guy and treated me well. All of this was before they hit it big, and boy did they! At California State University Long Beach, there is a theater named for them, as they were alumni of that institution. They were amazingly talented, and we lost her far too soon.
@@ChuckHackney It is truly a great memory and he could not have been a nicer guy. He was seven years older than me, and he was patient and understanding of how much I loved music. He didn't talk a lot, but we must of shared about thirty or so weeks of it, and I cherish that time. Truly a good guy!
The sbsolute essence of what MUSIC is and represents. Maybe the two most talented female singers ever paired together. Thank you, Lord FOR BOTH OF THESE TWO REMARKABLE WOMEN.
Who would be the other two faces on the Mt Rushmore of female vocalists? We just watched no's 1&2! Loved their mutual admiration of each other's talent. Wow!
Aww, so wonderful that you reacted to this. Ella Fitzgerald was one of Karen's favorite singers of all time. It's mentioned in the later biography how much she loved Ms. Fitzgerald as a little girl listening to all of her records. This was a dream come true for Karen to sing with her idol.
Oh Ms Psyche....I used to avoid listening to later Ella when she lost some of the suppleness in her voice and her vibrato got wider, but I've come to love listening to the way she uses all the things she's learned in her career to work around the changes and I appreciate the dignity of the way great singers work with the instrument they have as they grow older. There's a great video of Ella a few years later than this accepting the President's Award at the NAACP. She's had some amputations, so she can't walk onto the stage unassisted and she'd had heart surgery and apparently there were rumors that her public career was over. When she came out to accept the award, she said she didn't know what to say because the only thing she knew how to do was sing. And so she started...."You are the sunshine of my life / that's why I'll always be around....." Beautiful Ella, maybe the only person whose singing demonstrated what a joy it is to sing. Have a lovely day.
Hello Psyche, watching you looking at these two godesses singing together got me emotionnal. And you are true : that performance was about pure stardom. Two angelic vocalists performing together was pure heaven to my ears.
What a beautiful comment Conscience et intuition. Thank you very much. Here are the Carpenters Playlist on my channel for you to enjoy when you have time, Have a wonderful festive time with your family and friends. Psyche 🕊🌹ua-cam.com/play/PLWQGjnqwg9JJ-9sJe2_7YFn2MASN9eUUv.html

The sophistication, elegance, and voices!!!! What in the hell has happened to modern music??? Listen and understand what real melody, tone and vocal quality sounds like...
One of the ABSoluTE SADDEST AspECTS OF HER EaRLY DEaTH IS that she did not record enough of whst I csll American standards and big band songs. Voice is made for those songs. But God bless Linda R. for doing it superbly!!!
When I want to see and hear real class and talent I turn your video on with Karen and Ella, I cry and smile and get a warm feeling and I feel ever so much better, thank you for the video, loved your reaction and again appreciate you much
Karen's parts were prerecorded for this special because she was pretty weak at the time. She looked pale and frail. She was so frail. This was still a great special with two of the greatest female vocalist ever to hold a microphone!
Carpenters used to record previously all the music for their TV specials with Karen's lead voice so it would be easy for the producer /director plan the scenes for video recording. Even if she would do play back, she was singing at the set, and of course both Ella and Karen sang together, and is just a marvelous moment supported by Richard's arrangements.
Thank you for reacting to my two top singers and they loved each other Karen always said Ella had a huge influence on her as a youngster. Aren't they both beautiful and clearly enjoying each others company and loving every minute. I've loved Karen since 1983 and discovered Ella a bit later in 1994 my friends were into music of the time whilst I loved these wonderful ladies. And I loved how Ella honoured Karen by saying 'beautiful' Karen never knew how beautiful she was. btw I always get the goosebumps when I hear this too. Thank you so much 😊subbed.
As Richard Carpenter stated, “Karen had a timeless voice. She could have sung in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Her Big Band voice in this epic with Ella is stellar. Karen had a desire to perform in musicals. I often what treasure of music she would have left us in the future had she not tragically died so young.
