According to an interview I read, this whole thing was basically "Improv 101 with Chris Lilley" as he was getting his non-actor cast used to improvising. They just decided to film it for posterity; it wasn't even intended to be in the show but to teach them about being in character. I love this.
And now he's been de-platformed and banned from everywhere because hysterical office ladies who look too much like him in drag took offence on behalf of people who aren't them. :P
Not just that Lex, he has been attacked for casting as an African-American, a Polynesian with criminal issues and being undereducated, for playing an African woman and more. They called it black-face. It isn't racist. It is casting diverse cultures and races. It is EMBRACING the differences in the human race. I am attached to ALL of Chris's characters but my favorites are Jonah, Shwayne, and Jana the most.
I love the way Chris just freestyle engages with the cast in his character. He gets them thinking and going on tangents so they can expose real reactions to be used. Chris is a wonderful actor, comic and is an innovator to creating characters as well as their stories.
I spent a year in Taurana and this feels just feels so familiar. To play a butch female (all his characters) so convincingly is absolute genius. What he does is magical, he smashes the division and p.c culture the evil of this world has tried to sow and maintain. Dave Chapelle did the same thing and they tried to destroy him for it. Back then she was a star in Australia and Britain, but nothing even remotely close to what she is today.
