My middle school band (7th and 8thgrade) is playing this at our spring concert. We got it yesterday. I play first horn. I love how people are hating on the horns. Trumpets flutes and clarinets always get melody so don't complain and the bass line is the foundation of the band. The home of the piasa is about a half hour away from my house. Such a cool thing.
Wow. I never thought I could be so addicted to a song done by a band instead of a song you would hear on the radio, but I am. And my addiction is this song. It's so magical in every way. We were going to play this at a concert up north but my band director ended up picking Prelude Siciliano and Rondo instead, which really pissed me off. I wouldve much rather liked this one. I hope, being in one of the top 4 middle school bands in the US, that we can play this some day.
I am 1 chair region band at the moment playing this song! I play the tuba and wow, everything o here this song it makes me go into deep thoughts and think and just want to keep listening to this song over and over and over again.
My all District band was one of the first to do this song....still to this day it is one of my favorite songs i have ever played....Baritones represent!
Finally, a composer who understands what the alto saxophone is capable of! :D Not only in melody but in harmony! I get to play the alto sax solo... I'm so nervous yet so excited because it's so amazing! :D
I was first chair bassoon in honor band when I played this. The clinician wanted me to "Imagine a Native American getting eaten by the Piasa" when I played my 2 measure solo. 2:21
@Nissim1795 variations on an English folk song has a great trombone part, they get an epic part in changing time signatures, the middle of the piece, and the fuege at the end
@Nissim1795 Just because the Euphoniums and Horns get all the cool parts and what people say is what "makes" the song. I believe that all parts are very important, 3rds being most important.
@norfolkwestern10 I hope you can. It's a fantastic piece and such fun to play! ESPECIALLY if you play alto sax... but that's just coming from an alto sax player! The whole piece is awesome, really. I hope you can play it! :D
thisisbastin I'd have to disagree, I'm playing this right now on the horn and u can't even hear euphonium, the 1st horn carries the melody throughout and the second horn carries all the harmony and background, all parts of the band are important but don't discredit the amount this piece relys on the horn part, just like it needs the wood wind runs and the trombone counter melodies
i will agree with you! i played this song 6 years ago, i can't remember if it was a B or A class. but it is a very fun song. it made me like playing the horn. its the dominant instrument i would say in this. really brass heavy though. 2nd horn plays alot more melody than you think. they are basically the same part but minor differences. there is a lot of euph parts though. it depends on the section who is playing will determine if its heard.
So for anyone who plays brass for this song I would like you to look at a part for a woodwind when I saw one after I said the song was easy I changed my mind
Yeah, it's always about the euphoniums and horns.....not the trombones. Trombones only ever get anything cool when their playing it with the euphoniums or horns. Otherwise, we just have chords....I guess that's important too, though....
my band got superior is all our festivals with this song. and then because of budget cuts....our band teacher moved schools......causing my senior year of high school to be a pain the ass....and going from a level 6 band in junior year ....to a level three... >;(
ah Mr. Robert Sheldon.. you know what makes horn plays happy. thank you for making all the countless pieces i have played over the years

Bones for life! We played this in wind ensemble last year and I must say it was my favorite piece of the year by far.
this song has a special place in my heart. The day before we played this for spring festival, our oboist died. Love the piece so much
Thank you so much Robert Sheldon for giving the horns a good part!

Honestly this song was extremely fun to play as alto sax. You get the best of both worlds. Cool woodwind parts and cool french horn part.
I love playing the snare drum too haha
We played this at District Honor Band and it was awesome. EUPHONIUMS!!!
Finally, a composer who understands what the alto saxophone is capable of! :D Not only in melody but in harmony!
I get to play the alto sax solo... I'm so nervous yet so excited because it's so amazing! :D

No way, the Euphonium part is DEFINITELY the best part in this song.

@Nissim1795 variations on an English folk song has a great trombone part, they get an epic part in changing time signatures, the middle of the piece, and the fuege at the end
I'm playing first flute/piccolo in this and it is highkey the bane of my existence.

Lot of extreme running notes for woodwinds
@Nissim1795 Just because the Euphoniums and Horns get all the cool parts and what people say is what "makes" the song. I believe that all parts are very important, 3rds being most important.
Damn horns chill
@EuphPlayer115 i agree! the lows (3rd) are the base of the whole piece...and any piece!
@sonicherosfan Alto sax is, indeed, for the win. I play it in my school band, and have for seven years now.
小節番号39からのTrombone1st、ブレスしちゃまずいとこでブレスしてる…
The Euphonium part on this is great, too - not that much melody, but some lovely counter melodies.
Band is playing this. It's a shame our trumpet's aren't the best, but we still sound rather excellent.
The horn part in this is the best, but I must say the woodwind part is most impressive.
Saxophones.....and all other woodwinds for that matter. Those are some serious flying fingers.
これやるー
Se played this Song this suterday
Flute here
@norfolkwestern10 I hope you can. It's a fantastic piece and such fun to play! ESPECIALLY if you play alto sax... but that's just coming from an alto sax player! The whole piece is awesome, really. I hope you can play it! :D

I'm thinking your name is Brandon. Just listen next time you play this. You'll hear the Euphonium :)
