Min: 4.45 Hilton Plaza , Quartz Str. min: 5.30 Highpoint Mall with all those nice cafes there in the 80's ( cafe Wien and cafe zurich a few blocks down Kotze Str. at former Netbank Plaza ) min: 5.59 former Ingrams Corner now a Capitec branch Twist Str cn. Kotze Str. min: 7.46 Hillbrow Tower and Brixton Tower ....... You're absolutely right ! Hillbrow deserves to be revamped ! Iconic place 👍
In the sixties,when I lived there,Hillbrow was a magic cosmopoliton area ,with Austrian coffee bars,German restaurants and Greek Steak houses.No telivision there till 67 we enjoyed packed Jazz clubs at the Quirinal and Ambassor and other hotels and Jaques Brel at the Chelsea Hotel theatre. With two cinemas (Curzon and Claredon) we were never short of entertainment.The area had a tremendous vibe then and I,ll never forget it. Livein Scotland for the past twentythree years but it will always be remembered with fondness

@@Mankind0112 there is a clean up on Mandela's day the 18th of June. They will clean up the whole Ekhaya Precinct. I wanted to be present but I can't. Call the outreach foundation 011 720 7011 before you go.
Will be cool if you can get into the Telkom Tower (old J.G. Strydom/Hillbrow Tower) to get footage of the old revolving restaurant that used to be there 👍

I’m too familiar with hilbrow. Tower area, Esselen clinic area, area just before parktown and up to Berea. No substantial renewal can happen with criminal syndicates still operating freely there. Unfortunately there’s no political will and plan from govt
I have a question. I've noticed a trend over the years. Whenever a nice place is established there are a lot of white people living there. But when black people move in, the place gets dilapidated and the white people move out and establish another suburb. And the pattern goes on. Is this true or is my Perceived perception wrong. If what I'm noticing is true, can someone please explain why. Thanks. I live in Southern Africa by the way, so I see this phenomenon close up.

I don't know whether that place has changed.I arrived in Hillbrow many years ago when it was the most dangerous neighborhood in the world .The first day I got into the flat near Hillbrow Inn,my friend came to me : "can you see this hole in our window ? There was a fight outside the night club.Someone shot , and the bullet came into our flat .It is very dangerous here you must be careful".That night I didn't even want to sleep in that flat.
I don't think I can live/stay in the 21st floor 🤣🤣 I was scared for you. being said by someone who once lived in hilbrow while I was studying in the early 2000s. fun part I once lived in the 20th floor but now in my 40s im scared 😱 it's too high and those big windows in the passages don't make it easy🤣🤣

I lived in Highpoint, and in Nedbank Plaza, back in the 70's. You take your life in your hands in "The Brow" in think you're delusional, to think it will ever be ,rehabilitate.
I remember Hillbrow well , I lived in Randburg and used to jol there often as a young ou in the late 80’s , I remember Moulin Rouge , Quirinale Hotel , Chelsea Hotel , Romance Nightclub and Moon City , … and there was a great steak restaurant called The White House , lekker times …. 😊
I grew up in this place, now the crime rate has deteriorated compared to the pike of 1998-2006

Hillbrow is iconic also in holland europe i know also a guy tehre was living on the streets in the 80,s and 90,s addicted to heroin.He,s now in holland.
