i am about to finish my master degree in Monterrey, Mexico (UANL)... I love the science of welding and i want to do my Ph.D with you Mr. Dr, Harry Bhadeshia
Dear Professor, Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I would like to ask about the heat affected zone appear due to heating and cooling cycles during welding process. As i could understand from your lectures and book (STEEL microstructure and Properties), the micro-structure of HAZ (the immediate region after the fusion boundary) is coarse grained Martensite. which means it has higher strength from the fusion zone, then why we some time observe the failure of weld metal in HAZ ? Is HAZ (i.e Coarse grained zone) is the weakest link in the weld geometry ? is the reason lies in constraint theory as you explained in this lecture.? Many Thanks

Not sure what you refer to but a weld generally contains a mixture of phases including martensite.
Great work professor
sir please share some videos on welded austenitic stainless steel micrstructures
Some things do not age.

The martensite may have a higher strength but it is also less tough, depending on the carbon concentration.
Dear Professor, your lectures are very helpful. Completely off the topic, is there a reason for using Comic Sans font in all of your presentations?
+Vignesh Rangaraj No particular reason. But the word "comic" is nice.
Haha! Again, love all your lectures!
that ring tune is so old,, when was this shot?
is this martincite
