I agree. I've always been a St. Louis Rams fan and when they moved I didn't care. It's still the Rams. But when the Seattle Supersonics moved I didn't become a OKC Thunder fan because I didn't feel like that was the Supersonics anymore. The Raiders will still be the Raiders, just a different first name

I don't know how you can guarantee that. but I can definitely prove their are no ravens fans in Cleveland, and there are probably no colts fans in baltimore. people's allegiances aren't to the franchise, they're committed to the city.

Colin is right and dead wrong on this take. He is right that in this day of age, with the miracles of modern media in 2017 i.e online/social media, digital cable, smartphones, etc. if you a fan of any team in the '4' major North American Sports leagues, it's easier than ever to follow them even if you in a different part of the country. aka La Laker fan who's now living in New Jersey. Plus he also right the NFL is the most unique sports league anywhere, in which it's mainly A TV-centric sport. Whereby it has a huge national even international following, with fans around America and the world.
With that said Colin is wrong in that any huge amount of taxpayer should never be used again to build stadiums for Multi Billionaires other than for paying for infrastructure such as public transit and highways to get there. I know the Davis family,(Raiders)and the Spanos family (Chargers) are not as rich as say Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft. In that case IMO, 1)the Raiders should have stayed in Northern Calif and moved to the 49ers stadium in Santa Clara(until a new stadium in either SF or Oakland was built) 2)If the Chargers could not a viable location in San Diego moved to Anaheim not LA. 3)from this point forward no other city/region in America should every pay again most of the cost of building a new stadium for any sports team unless that city/region gets ownership share. 4)let the major tv and cable sports networks also start to pay for at least a portion of the construction of these new buildings since they already paying tens of millions in naming rights anyhow. Without TV, any sports league can not survive.
Just my takes. Private business footing most of the costs of new stadiums (ie NBC, Fox, CBS giving loans) would have allowed the Chargers to stay in SD the Rams in St Louis and the Raiders to stay in the Bay area. And 2 expansion team should been awarded to LA and another city i.e Toronto, Mexico City or San Antonio. That what should have happened. Instead Jerry Jones has his own way in being the 'real boss' of the NFL and not figurehead Roger.

By Colin's logic, people in Philly should have been celebrating when the Warriors won a title. Cleveland fans should have celebrated when the Ravens won. But they didn't. When you root for a team, you don't root for them because you like the logo or because you just picked a name out of a hat. You root for them because THEY REPRESENT YOUR CITY. When your team moves from the city, it no longer represents your city. When the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens, Cleveland fans didn't suddenly root for Baltimore. You root for the city, not the franchise.

This has to be one of the weakest arguments he has ever made. Of course the city a team plays in matters.
Like he said, transplanted LA resident Steelers, Patriots & Cowboy fans are still fans, but only because they still represent the city they're from. These teams and their fans are connected to their city of origin. WEAK ARGUMENT COLIN.

SD for years had a rule that if you wanted to buy a ticket to the raider game you had to buy a preseason game because half the stadium would be full of raider fans. I grew up in Baltimore and we'd fly to oakland, I now live in Long beach and flew up to Oakland twice a yr. but Now Ill fly to Vegas.. Theres so many ppl who are like me. The reason (most) people root for a team is because that team plays in THEIR city or state. If given the choice between your team becoming an elite contender in another city or a terrible team in your city you pick terrible team because it's your team because they play in your city. If they leave, you have no reason to root for them because what drew you in the first place was the fact that they were the local team!

No other teams identity is more closely associated with their community.
Nobody would advocate the Raiders getting rid of the Shield. Oakland is just as emblematic of the brand as the Shield is.
The city of Oakland literally NAMED this team. Do your research. The colors and theme were selected based on Oaklands geographical location & climate. The teams personality was specifically designed as Oakland. Blue collar, rebel misfits that nobody else wanted. A team that isn't supposed to win but does. Legendary players were Oakland residents. They were part of the community.

I was born and raised as a Raiders fan. I was almost named Bo and Marcus if that tells you anything. Oakland and LA were fitting for the Raiders because the culture in those cities matched the way the team played and helped them earn the title of the bad boys of football way back when the rivalry started with the Steelers. With that being said, Sin City and Raider Nation just seem right. Of course the history of Raiders in California can’t be ignored but at least it’s Las Vegas and not somewhere out of place like Utah or Texas.

I think Jon Oliver put it best: if taxes were all that mattered, then everyone would be playing for the Cayman Islands Conches. There's a reason we don't have the Cheyenne Patriots, the Anchorage Bears, and the Sioux Falls 49ers. (And the Rams saw fit to move from moderate-tax Missouri to high-tax California.) That said, I'm excited to see the Raiders go to Vegas, though I'm not a Raider fan or an Oakland-area resident who'll be personally affected. But it can be harder to see relocated teams on a weekly basis if you don't have Sunday Ticket, depending on where they move to.

Lots of crybaby Oakland residents in the comments. They just need to accept the fact that the Raiders officially moved. I'm thankful Raiders moved. Raiders deserve a big and brand-new stadium and Oakland could never make a 1.9 billion dollar stadium. The best Oakland could say is more renovations on an ancient stadium. Raiders deserved better and now they will get a gorgeous dome stadium in Las Vegas! Now the superbowl could be played at Raider's stadium. :)

It has nothing to do with attendance. The Raiders DECIDED to section off the tarp due to operational costs/liability based on the poorly designed deck.

If I'm in the Bay Area on a Raiders game day as a NFL fan I WOULDN'T go to the game. If I'm in Las Vegas on a Raiders game day as an NFL fan I WOULD go to the game.
The Oakland Coliseum couldn't have any worse of a reputation, and that shows in home attendance numbers. In a playoff season you almost had less people come to games then the San Diego who knew their team was moving before the season.
I'm a Cleveland Browns fan who can sympathize with Raiders Nation on how hurtful a relocation can be. Art Modell broke apart the only successful team we had since the 1940's-1950's. The big difference is your keeping your brand and moving to a city which sees 30 million visitors every year. When the Browns go to Vegas to play the Raiders you bet I'm going to the game. New stadium, new reputation, great money market. It's a win win deal, and if your upset about it still I get it but you'll get over it. If you don't you can become a 49ers fan if geography is the only reason you support a team.(LMAO)

I left home in 1969, (drafted), and stayed in California after serving. I still followed the Cardinals because they represented my home town. When they moved to Arizona I completely lost interest.
