My whippet has a best friend in the neighborhood. I thought he was a mutt! He has a very scruffy long curly coat. He loves our dog right back and they walk together. However, he is. not that fond of any other dogs. Just ours. Well, he's not a mutt, I found out later he is a Legato Romagnolo. I adore him and I'd never seen one of these dogs before. He loves exercise, is friendly with all people but, is choosy about his dog friends. He is somewhat stubborn at times but, very sweet. We may get one later as a second dog. won't mind the coat care. We used to have an Old English Sheepdog. Thanks for this, I think these guys are a great little dog!
Our male lagotta is quite a hand full in puberty (7 months), very much trying to be dominant. It's also quite active and doesn't always listen too great when out of your house. Very loyal though and very reliable.
@@urbanothepopeofdeath those are brown. When you mix brown and blue (blue light from the tunnell) it looks black. Im an artist and thats a common color combo instead of using straight black. But you can tell at 1:45 when the dog is out that its clearly a dark brown coat.
Christopher is right. There's a fair amount of improvisation on the details in this video. They come in variation of brown, rarely a kind of beautiful gold/wheat color, and white. Not black. Also, as mentioned above, they don't run to 60 pounds. The males run to 35 and the females to 30. They are amazingly athletic and it will follow you on long arduous hikes. As the guy says, very smart but they will run you ragged if you don't train early and often.
They don't get up to 50-60 pounds. The males max out at about 35 and the females max out at 30. So about half the size of a Portuguese water dog. So they are small-small medium. For kids they are too active. Friendly as hell but a little hyper. Energetic. I love my Lagotto.
I know a lagotto romagnolo that lives a street away from me and they also have a 3yo baby girl, he is so well behaved and he lets her do anything she wants to him so he is really good with kids. Its just how you train them to be around kids
The only problem I have is that she gets a little too excited around small children and can knock them over. It's all done with love but it's not safe.
First of - I was totally fixated on the dog so that they don't change midway through :) And Oscar looovvvves you - I recommend you watch your video! Excellent review again and thanks for the amazing and funny stories.
My Roméo is 3. I am training him to become an assistance dog. Extremely intelligent. Hyper as puppies, but they do calm down. Need a moderate amount of exercise. Working dog! They don’t naturally love water. Need to be introduced early on.
I own a lagotto romagnolo, her name's Daisy, she's 9 months old, white body with light brown head. She's very affectionate to me, she's also a pest. Her shenanigans involve biting me, headbutting me between my legs for no reason, digging on my bed (she ripped a pair of bedsheets already) and jumping on my stomach. But she also has some faults (nah, she hasn't)
I have a Lagotto and she is a digger. She is the smartest and must clever dog I have ever had She is super happy, kind and sweet but barks a lot when she is outside on the farm if she see someone or something
Do you mind sharing your exercise regimen with him? And if you feed him kibble or a raw food diet? Also, what breeder did you buy him from? 🤣🤣 thanks !
I see the biggest problem their coat, a lot work. Even the more work than having to comb a dog that sheds twice a year. Also they like water but this coat is like a mop, I was looking into water loving breeds but I need a dog to swim in the sea. This could be a problem.

Liam Murphy Thanks I will be watching those reviews and yes there is more to come I’m making more flexible but sturdy figures and hopefully a short film is on its way, horror.
Hi Liam - I was wondering why the Lagotto scored relatively low on the temperament scale? The Cane Corso and Giant Schnauzer scored higher and whilst they are sweet dogs to their people, aren't the more of a handful with strangers and other dogs? Your review of the Lagotto mentioned they may be grumpy with puppies when they get older, but there doesn't seem to be significant enough temperament issues to score a 3.5? I was initially interested in getting a Lagotto but I'm now unsure and it would be great if you could provide a bit more detail about that. Love your videos!! Really helpful with researching which breed to get :)
At least half of what he said about the Lagotto is just plain wrong. They are a handful when you begin to train them but that's because they're incredibly smart. Once you get over the initial hump of establishing authority, they learn super fast. They're also very friendly, especially if they are properly socialized in the beginning. Mine is grumpy neither with strangers (she'll bark a couple of times and then go into full on love mode) and she adores other dogs unless they are aggressive towards her (then she tends to just retreat).
Our lagotto was very smart, but also stubborn. Food rewards weren't much motivation for him. I would joke that our golden had all sorts of obnoxious habits, but was really obedient. Our lagotto had very few obnoxious habits and obeyed when he was in the mood. He was wonderful with our kids. We'd wake and find out little boy missing in his bed. He would get up at night and sleep with the dogs. They were very gentle and patient with him. When our lagotto got older, we got a puppy. The puppy was obnoxious and we could tell he annoyed our lagotto. He was never rough but but he snip at him or give a warning woof or growl. We made sure the lagotto had a pace to go where the puppy couldn't bother him. He was shy around strangers, but never unfriendly and warmed up quickly to anyone we brought over.

Hi, are these dogs ok for houses without fences? We live in the countryside, no neighbours nearby, no road passing by. We have a lot of forest around our house so lots of deer, fox and hare. Our current dog, although a hunting mix breed, is very very good with not wandering or running away from the house so we really want a breed that will not give us such worries as we spend a lot of our time outside with house doors open at all times, even at night. We live in Slovenia with Italy next door, so we would look for breeders there.

@Hencie de Jonge True in part but in fact Lagottos like truffles too! I know because I became introduced to the breed on a truffle hunt in France (it was AWESOME) and the owner had to pull the dog back before it ate the truffles. He'd give it a little treat instead but he told me he had to discount the truffles that the dog had already gotten a little nip out of. Still, you are right that pigs adore truffles and will get pissed off (pissed off pig=bad) if you don't let them eat what they find whereas the dog will accept the swap of cheap treat for expensive truffle.
