LOVE LOVE LOVE this series so far! Just trying to imagine just how Much they had to go through in WW2. Our service men and women deserve our respect ❤️
Harry H. Crosby, the narrator, was the 100th's group navigator and author of a Wing and a Prayer ... not the most skilled navigator, Crosby tells the story about how he got group nav job ... highly recommend the book -- one of the most memorable WWII memoirs i have read.
Ive watched the first 2 episode and i ve enjoyed it ,cant wait for the next episodes, ive literally put the the release dates of each episodes saved on my calendar
Watched episode 1 and 2, very very impressed, the CGI is very good, most convincing, I'm guessing it's what caused the delays in its release. The brotherhood of the crews is great, it promises to be a classic series.
Loving the show so far and know it won’t disappoint. Saw a recent interview with Austin talking about how he used a dialogue coach so he wouldn’t sound like Elvis lol
Tech stuff looked terrific, uniforms and equipment also, but first scene showed our heroes with Fonzie hair. Such an easy fix, but overall very enjoyable.
My dad was a BTO in the B-17 in '44 and '45. In all the pictures he took in gunnery school and flight training he had Fonzie hair. Nah, the filmakers did their homework. The services let them have more hair back then.
I was pleasantly surprised by the first 2 episodes. No major complaints even though I'm trying not to nit pick it and enjoy it for what it is. The CGI of the bombers taking off and landing was the only time I felt it didn't look realistic, in the air and flying through clouds it was pretty good.
@@SpruesNBrews I think it's a mass thing, they bombers didn't look like they had any weight to them and the just sort of zipped around and then leap into the air
@@travis_thompson Have to agree. My only major nit pick. For fully fuelled and bomb laden aircraft taking off for a mission, they almost went up like an F-15 on an unrestricted climb out 😁I think the engines were smoking a bit too much as well.
Band of brothers……Army. Pacific……Marine Corp……..now we have the Army Air Corps. I hope they have plans for the Navy since Tom Hanks did a superb job in Greyhound !
Hi Steve,For what it's worth, the original 1950's series "Victory at Sea" (available even on UA-cam) was/is the original tribute to the US Navy (similar in content to BBC's 1973 "World at War) and does them more than justice. The series even generated 3 full albums of the soundtrack (1 in Mono.2 in Stereo. All available on UA-cam)).
Great series! I liked it as much as I loved 'BoB' and 'The Pacific'. My only regret is that I don't know much about Air Force (organization, ranks, etc.) as I do with Armor... How many planes/men in a Squadron? And in a Group?
Liked it a lot. My major issue is the utter LACK of leather name tags and squadron patches on the A2 and B3 flight jackets. They did a great job in the jackets otherwise. No nose art on the back of a single jacket either! This makes no sense overall as i have seen very few vintage photos from those days that didn’t have jackets with leather name tags and squadron patches at least. If you’d like to see what I am referring to, I highly recommend “American Flight Jackets, Airmen and Aircraft” and “Art of the Flight Jacket” by Jon A. Maguire and John P. Conway. I painted an A2 with B17 on the back in the style of the day, using those two books in particular as a reference. Also, based upon the first episodes, no nose art either? That didn’t seem right either. F But other than those odd things, I really liked it.
It was thier first two missions give them time to sort all that out. I actually thought that was one of the most accurate parts of the episodes, the ground crews were still painting on the group markings before the mission.
The only thing I thought may have been exaggerated was the flak on the lone B17 heading to France. I realize they were headed to the Atlantic Wall but it seemed a bit much for as far out as they were from the coast. Overall I was impressed
Episode one was fantastic and got to know the 2 main guys and their character, CGI was spot on, not sure how they would replicate a load of bombers in formation without it, anyone knocking it is just being stupid really. Episode 2 get to know a few more in depth and I’m already starting to warm to a few of the characters as I did in Band of Brothers, which I didn’t do at all with Pacific So far I’m giving it a 9/10 and I can’t ever really give it a 10 as that’s reserved for Band of Brothers, so if it maintains or gets better I’ll give it a 9.5/10 For reference I give Pacific a 7/10 😊
Hank, i havent had a chance to check this out yet but from what you are saying its pretty good. The 100th bomb group, werent they known as the bloody 100th? From what ive read the German fighters seemed to target them more so than other bomb groups. Take care.
Thanks for a great recap since I do not have AppleTV. Seem like it will be good series but I will say that I hope someone will make similar movie about about those who flew over Vietnam. Thanks.
I enjoyed it. Eagerly awaiting waiting future episodes, and will _definitely_be watching it all. The bar was set so very high by BoB, but I can see good characters and (presumably) character stories to grow here. And I caught myself holding my breast more than once. Really like the interplay with the local Brits, too (and Irish!).
A new show with B-17s what about the B-24 Liberator just as important but over looked for the B-17, just as we all now about RAF heavy bomber the Lancaster not so much about the Halifax or the Short Stirling ? as a foot note Hobby boss have a 1/48 scale B-24J out soon
Well worth the wait, I see that they used 'The Volume' quite a bit which is good, the CGI is really well done and I wonder if it a deliberate choice to wait until the CGI technology had matured to the point where they could do the large formations without it looking cartoonish? the only downside is that they don't have the veteran interviews, which is a shame, could have been filmed 10 years ago and kept.
You & I or me know the left out details but for average joe & mnnie pearl they don't know that bomber crew training for all positions is different than fighter pilot training which most films cover in popularity so a little more back story to include that minimum 25 bombs dropped missions was required to rotate.🙄 Jman
Watched both episodes tonight. Not bad, but doesn't compare to band of bros or Pacific. You really felt a connection to those characters and how they went to battle with each other and cared for each other, and the acting was excellent. I didn't feel that connection with Masters, and the acting is mediocre. One thing for sure, these young men were the bravest and lived up to the greatest generation in WWII. I'll keep watching and personally so far I give it 3 out 5 stars.
Have watched the two first episodes. It is no Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers but a way more polished product. Does not seem like any actual planes were airborne during filming - it's all CGI and it shows - Memphis Belle had a lot more grit to it in that regard in my opinion. And the casting ... I find it hard to engage with the characters. They come over more as pretty boys dressed up and acting like pilots rather than young men born during the hard times of the depression. But I will watch the rest.
Poor Buck & Bucky. They deserve to be remembered. Anxious to see if they focus on one crew or several stories. Was contacted by MotA on 3 zoom calls about a certain crew but had to sign a secrets agreement or be Epsteined so can't tell. Needless to say I'm anxious to know if they were chosen for their remarkable experiences.
Yeah I heard that too (in episode 2)... I'm curious, because they looked like 109s to me. I did notice, however, that they misidentified some Bf-110s as JU-88s in episode 2 as well, so maybe it was a mistake? Unsure!
It's way easier to shoot a movie or show on the ground with minimal cost than having the trouble of massive realistic air battles, which involves very expensive CGI work. Obviously, not as much budget can be put to other things.
It sounded like you were describing the movie Memphis Belle. But then again, I guess both movies target the same mission drama. I am one of those that am nervous about the CGI. Every time I see it and it is unrealistic, and too fast flight physics. CGI also has too much sheen for flat paint. They cant seem to get flat paint right.
The pacing of this show is horrible. We are rushed into battle 30 minutes into the show without any plot or character development. Then, the battle sequence occurs, is extremely rushed and is over in 7 minutes. They return to base, and 30 guys are dead. But I don't really care because there has been no character development and the battle sequence felt so damn rushed that I could not possibly develop any kind of emotion or suspense in that quick of time. I feel this show caters more to TikTok brain than actual proper story telling.
I totally get that. I think that's always going to a problem where you are depicting hours long missions where 95% of the time nothing happens. Trying to fit it all in a hour of television is going to be a compromise. Trying to do proper character development for a whole bomb group is going to be pretty tough compared to a company like BOB. Be interesting to see how it plays out
It's okay so far, but the character development has only been so so. A shame that they had Egan flying with the 389th BG for 2 missions which wasn't even in combat yet at the time, and flew B-24's, instead of the 305th like he actually did.
Oh boy. Two episodes in and I am disappointed so far. The combat scenes and flying scenes are top notch IMO. But the rest is very blah. I don’t “like” the characters yet. I loved the characters in BoB right away and this one isn’t doing it for me yet. Hoping it gets better. :-(
I would say a key element is how much time they waste talking about love and women and bars and dating. Also how they depict the airmen and the any other persons as ordinary-looking or Hollywood-Make-Up "attractive". The more everyone looks like a "love interest" and looks like they are wearing make-up in a contemporary style the more ridiculous and absurd and inaccurate.
Hi Hank Appreciate your post, but it’s sort of detracting from your original modelling work and I’m trying to figure out where you are going with what you want to show now. There is a zillion people who are smashing out their reviews on Facebook about the new movie, so what you are trying to do is just wasted in the sidelines. I really preferred to see the modelling work which was great!
It's not just terrible, it's unwatchable. The writing sucks. The acting sucks. The CGI looks fake as fu*k. Don't waste your time. Band of Brothers was 10/10. The Pacific was 8/10. This steaming pile of crap is 1/10.

Could chalk it up to inexperience, I guess.
Pilots misidentified things all the time, even if it's a mistake by the show it's accurate enough historically.
That was kind of my thought, too - benefit of the doubt for the creative team on whether it was intentional or not!
They should have identified it as crappy CGI that did not look like real planes.
