You forgot to mention that Today’s Falcon 9 flight was actually a record breaking flight for an individual booster with a reflight time between launches of under 2 weeks, (13 days, 12 hours and 24 minutes to be exact) and it was Booster 1080 which did it, previously flying on November 11th. Previous record was around 3 weeks.
8:33 Also, breaking news from a couple of hours ago, apparently after docking and opening the hatch to the Progress, it had some very strong chemical stench inside.
Matt! The f150 is like thousands of pounds heavier and larger for this year than it was say 5 years ago. We Americans do love our pickups, but not as useful as you might think. Might I suggest something timely and festive that all your American viewers will understand: Frozen Butterball Turkeys
I still don't understand why they sink superheavy. the issue is, that the engine bells contain serious amounts of hafnium. that stuff is expensive. in other words, it makes economic sense to retrieve the rocket, even after it crashed. EDIT: usually, a 10% hafnium alloy, and hafnium currently runs at close to 5000$ per kg. nothing to sneeze at.
It’s not time efficient to scavenge the ruined booster. SpaceX is very profitable and has a LOT of money in the bank; they’d rather lose the booster and any profit margins they could gain in exchange for focus towards progressing the program without worry of recovery, as the sooner they get Starship fully operational, the sooner the many, many billions will come in.
@@TheMoneypresident With NASA, that doesn't really mean anything. Remember how the new moon Rover (Viper?) was ready to fly and then just got canceled?
The 726 metric tons is the weight of the launch table that New Glenn sits on, not the weight of New Glenn itself. The rocket produces about 1700 metric tons of thrust, so it must weigh well over 1000 tons (maybe 1200-1300) , the exact figures seem to be hard to find.
Actually, the HLS is likely to keep header tanks to fire up main engines in orbit, just that they are not in the "header" section. While you can use cold thrusters to accelerate forward so that the fuel would settle back to the bottom of fuel tank, but their COPV volume is very limited. The design probably similar to those of the super heavy, i.e, in the down-comer.
Personally think at this point Blue Origin will probably land the first cargo/lander on the moon before SpaceX does. Both companies are making good progress but it just seems like Blue Origin are a little closer to achieving that goal that SpaceX.
Matt's infographic suggests you can use Scott Manley's head in equations. But I'm wondering if that was meant as a free parameter or just an appropriate symbol for dV?
*SpaceX is pushing boundaries every week! From Starship's smooth splashdown to the future of human moon landings, it’s exciting to see the next steps unfold. Can't wait for Starship Block 2 and NASA’s Artemis 2. What do you think? Could we see a successful catch soon? Let's discuss!*
My guess is because they are switching to Raptor 3 soon and also why keep an out of date booster that would probably cost about the same as a new one to refurbish after landing in the water
@@terraoftime I'm not talking about re-use. I'm talking about examining it. They're flying obsolete hardware for the data. I'm sure there is a lot they can learn from tearing these raptor 2's apart.
Maybe you don't understand that they were testing extra things.. The only aspect that went sideways was the comms tower. Otherwise it was a perfect flight.
there is more to the test than just catching it, and they want perfect conditions for every situation. It was probably still capable of being caught but they don't want to destroy the launch pad and tower before knowing the limits
@@illustriouschinyou are one ignorant man, every test is not the same, they have new components in each test and it's ok some of them fail, because that's the purpose of a *TEST* and the flight went mostly well, so yes, it did smash it

will be pretty crazy when super heavy lands and lifts off again a couple hours later
@tylersherrock7649 hold your breath on that.😂

I have a feeling the Artemis program is going to be scrubbed unfortunately. The cost is just too high😮💨
Future ones yes. Next two are mostly ready for assembly.
probably not for the coming four years as nasa is spacex's biggest client, spacex is owned by elon and elon is besties with trump

3:27 woah woah woah, if they didn’t include the banana, how would I know the scale??😂
4 commercial airplanes
2 for starship probably
2 for superheavy
10:16 that isnt HLS thats a tanker and a depot. Notice the lack of landing legs.
That water landing was perfection 🤌
2:08 doesn't it look like the booster plows into the water pretty hard? doesnt look like it hovered at all
woohoo! more cool space stuff!
thank you for information
I cant believe how slow NASA is compared to Spacex
Is there a reason super heavy wasnt recovered via a barge? Was it just too expensive or is there a deeper reason?
Ice AIS Baby is a play on Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, popular in America (I don't know his popularity beyond my home country) in the 90s.
I live for your American unit conversions 😂
There is no way, with the recent spate of tip over landings, that space X will attempt to land that original design.
Expect something 1/4 that height.
I find it interesting that the HLS only has 3 RVAC meaning it may be more similar to block 2 or 1
I wonder what spacex will put in the hold when they do a demo HLS . got to be a cybertruck/JCB and a atlas robot ? .clearing the ground
For those wondering this flight was not a failure. It gave SpaceX valuable data
6:20 Matt Collab?????
This is one small elevator for man; one giant lift for mankind.
10:14 I think that’s a propellant depot not a HLS
Its both, the white one is hls and the shiny one is the depot

Ship 26 was a test platform and is no longer useful with raptor V3 has different mounting points.

I hope they scrap Artemis and SLS on Jan 21st next year. I'd rather see a Crew Dragon docked to the HLS than an Orion.
