I Rode Every Day to see how FAST I Can Get!

- I rode my dirt bike every day for 30 days straight to see how much faster I could get around the Motocross track....this is the Faster in 30 challenge and it's by far the most ambitious video we've ever made for 999lazer :-D
I grew up believing that practice makes perfect, and I knew that the best riders in the world pounded out laps more ferociously than the competition. So what would happen if I - your average rider, the typical weekend warrior - was to ride more than I've ever ridden before, what would happen if spent a month intensively riding and nothing else. How much better would I get? How much faster would I become? And how hard would it really be? These are the questions we are trying to answer in our grand experiment here. Join us for the ride!

9 seconds! That’s incredible mate. Well done. A great achievement 👍
Thanks dude, i couldn't believe the results!
@ i can’t remember if you mentioned if you beat the other guys time? 🤔
Holy shit🫡🫡🫡🫡😎😎 out of a small loop? That’s a huuuuge time difference. Very inspiring. Great video.
The confidence in the final hot lap is extremely noticeable. Well done on this journey, cracking effort!
Thanks!
At the end of my racing days, I raced 125A, 250A and 16-24 on a CR500. That was when I learned how to use my legs because my arms were effed. It is a mental thing but if you can learn it, it will help a lot.
That was a good improvement, it’s not just the riding that takes it out of you, all the travelling, maintainence, full time work etc alongside that makes it so difficult. I bet you were ready for a beer! Keep on it mate and get some winter series racing in!
Impressive 9 seconds ..wow!
I was blown away by the difference! Thanks for watching Craig
Nice work. Makes you realise how important bike time is and how frustrating it is when we can only get out once a week.
If you think about how often kids play football for example compared to how often a typical motocross kids get to practice it's crazy! Thanks for watching Gareth :-)
Brilliant as always 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
With training, what you put in is what you get out. Aside from diet & excercise, when the weather cooperates (when its nice and cool, or even cold) my training was absolutely brutal by todays standards. I would use the old GP format: 45 minutes + 2 laps. At full race speed. Thats still my benchmark for today. I might take an extra day to recover now since Ive been doing this for nearly 4 decades, but improvement never ends.
Oh, and last time I paid $12.29/gallon for 100 octane race gasoline.
I think there's an interesting video idea in trying to replicate your training schedule Doc. I'd love to be able to do a 45 minute moto at race pace....I'm going to try and build up to that over the winter I think! Thanks for watching as always
Amazing effort Max!! I think you made a good point at the end by saying you had no coaching or gym work 9 seconds is amazing. Can you imagine what you could do with cia hing and fitness work!
I think I will have to do a follow up video where we try the same sort of thing but with a fitness/riding coach. Thanks for watching dude
Proper work. Proper outcome. Congratulations. You did it🤙😎👍💪
Thanks 👍
Fantastic video and your journey max, I don't think we all appreciate how much work , time and dedication you put into bringing us quality videos , week after week , thank you Max, bet Sean's getting worried now.
Thanks a lot Kevin :-D This was probably our most ambitious video yet but the results were well worth the effort! Sean has already told me that he's going for that triple next time he's at the track haha
amazing video and great riding !!!! What a awesome demonstration some like I have never seen - enjoyed the commitment it takes to do something like this !!!! Cannot imagine the sore body parts lol - Thank you and your team for everything you do for our moto community - truly the best moto channel on the tube !!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thanks Mike, comments like this really inspire us to keep on keeping on :-D The body was definitely very sore, my arms were so tight. i felt like i had arm pump 24/7!
Terrific video guys and what an improvement Max. I hope you can capitalize on the result & ride more often now, would be a shame to lose it
Thanks for watching as always Micheal :-) I'm going to try and keep it up over the winter with regular riding, but that's easier said than done with the weather here...lol
This was fantastic! I was cheering you on for the final day like one of my own kids. Great job on the 9 seconds and another extremely entertaining video. Bravo 👏
Haha I appreciate the support dude! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :-D
Your progress is awesome love it for a casual rider thats awesome 😎
Thanks dude :-D
Well done fella!
thanks
Very very impresssive to endure all this training, and what a result! The baseline wasnt exactly the first time out on this track either.
Thankyou
Riding a dirt bike is just like flying an airplane. The skill is perishable and has a shelf-life unless renewed with practice. Great job! Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to watch Jesse :-D
Congrats Max, you now know every little thing about you and that machine.
and that track as well, I knew where every little rock and pebble would be lol Thanks for watching Ralph :-)
Fair play Max, that was a great video and some seriously hard work from you right there
Thanks dude, it was a looong month to say the least! lol But one of the most rewarding experiences for sure :-)
Great to watch your dedication to motorcross. Enjoyed watching it!! Just goes to show how much effort there is behind the scenes to put in the hours. Dunk
It was a long month, but one of the most fun/rewarding experiences ever :-) Thanks for watching!
this was an awesome episode my friend i appreciate your dedication to this sport
Thanks :)
Love your videos Max. Thank you👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch Mark :-)
Hey Max
Long time watcher
I really enjoyed that one
Hats off to you mate
Well done 👍
Can’t wait to see the 600 finished and ripping
Thanks Alan👍
Part man part machine, well done Max top video matey 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Tess :-D It was a mission but something I've always wanted to try and do. It'll be a month i always look back on with a smile!
Nice work! Anyone that's achieved anything worthwhile has put a ton of time into it. We usually don't see it, but they have.
Thanks for watching Dmitriy!
Very well done video! Not oftern these days that i watch a video straight from start to finnish :D At the end there I was thinking you will get about 6-7 seconds. But damn, almost 9 is pretty crazy indeed
I've been watching your videos for a while and do appear to be getting faster all the time. Nice job.
Thanks Dave! :-D
Great vid as always mate! ❤ 👌
Thanks Dylan! :-D
When I was in my best shape from running and some light weight lifting, going out and riding trails on my mountain bike were definitely a challenge despite my fitness level. No wonder pro AMA riders in moto/supercross are so focused on fitness.
Cool concept, excellent video. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
id be interested to see the two laps side by side
well done mate that was awesome
well done, great video as usual, love it. looked good, well great in fact , plenty of speed.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great idea to do ! and you did it! 9 seconds a lap. 20 min moto, thats a big diff! Good on ya from nz
Thanks Nate, this is something I've always wanted to do and i'm pumped that we were finally able to make it happen :-D
That's quality, amazing work
Thanks for watching Alex!
massive improvement, looked like you was trying as hard as possible at the end there max.
That was maximum effort for sure. I did a 15 minute session there at the end, but lap 3 & 4 i gave it everything...the laps after that were a struggle lol! Thanks for watching as always dude :-D
What an effort!!
Well done mate.
Thanks for take the time to watch dude!
Mission complete you smashed it matey 👍🏻
Thanks:)
Impressive and inspiring. i must aspire to your greatness. cheers 💪💪💪
Thanks for taking the time to watch Carlos! :-D
Nice job. Absolutely riding the wheels of the gasgas
Thanks for watching dude :-D
Awesome marathon effort...👏👏👏
That's a good reward for effort, i reckon ✅🤘🙏
I was so happy with the results! Thanks for taking the time to watch Glen :-)
Mega well done . 9 seconds now time To go sand surfing at the docks
cheers Scott, I'll make the trip up soon :)
Congrats. Great to see u improve your skills. Elite riders really have to incorporate strength training & cardio. It’s a physical sport
Thanks for watching Joel! I'd like to do another challenge where I emulate an elite riders regime to see what difference that makes
@ Of course my friend. It could only improve your life both inside & outside of riding. Love you content as always
Fantastic 👍👍 great work as always, 💪💪💪
Thanks for taking the time to watch Paul :-D
ok - wicked video and bloody hell, i said 2 secs in my 1st post below would be vast - watched the video and bam, 9 secs is brilliant, what a trip fella - that is some serious work and a massive improvement, i'd still like to see the moto time more though 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to watch dude! Just left a comment on your first one about the moto time :-D
Looks like im early! Enjoying this video so far. Also, you are not fat, just very healthy :D
thank you :)
Great video. That was very impressive being 9 seconds faster on the last day.
I wish you did that test on a 2stroke. Just that you have done all them 2stroke builds
The opportunity to ride the gasgas for the summer was just too good to refuse. But don't worry we'll have plenty of 2 Stroke challenges coming to the channel :-)
@@999lazer totally understand that.
Great video. Well done! Be interesting to see what your total race time was in first moto compared to the last one. eg If you had been racing yourself how much would new you have won by. I am guessing new you would have won by around 50 seconds ?
Good job my guess was 4 seconds. I have something for you to try. My buddy who was a top 50 pro in the US and we rode quite a lot . He asked me if I thought I stood up enough. I did, he didn’t. He made me do motos with him that occasionally included a moto with no seat. You will learn a lot .
Parabéns pelo esforço 👏👏👏 Meus cumprimentos diretamente do Brasil 💪
E quello che ci vuole per avere assoluta padronanza della moto e migliorare la propria prestanza fisica.e stato il miglior allenamento quando correvo, crf 250/crf450..bravo, complimenti x il video x la tenacia e la smisurata passione x il nostro bellissimo sport..for the love,of the sport.nofear
Quality vid, 9 seconds jeez !! I was expecting about 3. Thought it would be seriously impressive to get it under 1.50.
Would love to be able to ride more than odd weekend here and there.
Thanks for watching Jamie, glad you enjoyed it mate :-D I was amazed at the results to be fair
Great vid bro. Love it. My dream would be to do this. No better training than seat time.
Nice video, massive difference. How did you feel of the bike set up change getting so much more familiar with it? What track is that test track?
Awesome video!!!
Thanks Joel
Good on ya legend!
Thanks for watching Blair :-)
Very cool concept and idea. Do you think that cadence would be sustainable for another month, or do you feel 1-2 days of rest per week could've elicited even bigger gains and allowed you to continue this indefinitely?
I don't think this would have been sustainable for much longer just in terms of logistics let alone the riding side of it. I think having some rest days built in would have at least given me the same results in terms of the fast lap - even though i was sore and aching i had at least one lap in me. But rest days would've helped me a lot for the full moto allowing me to survive longer harder motos for sure
@@999lazer Well stated and cool to hear. I know many might think more is better, not recognizing there comes a point of diminishing return, hope viewers read your comment!
Good effort pal well done 👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch dude :-)
Thats a cracking result.
However...
Now you've shown it makes you quicker on a weedy, underpowered, tiny engined, puny 4T,
You need to repeat it on Kong or Yzilla to see how much better a big bore 2T makes you.
Talk about opening a can of worms.
500+cc 2T and for laps to count they need to be within 5% of your fastest.
Have a great month :)
I love ur channel and love all the content you do been watching for years and you have helped me though some tuff tuff times and got me loving and riding again after years but in my unlucky life I'm at the bottom end of the scale with cheep old raged bikes witch just don't last and yet again I'm left with a blown up crf250 with no means of getting it fixed or me riding again but at least I can live my riding though you still keep on smashing it lads
Sorry to hear about the CRF Danny, that sucks. Hopefully you can get it sorted in time. We'll keep the vids coming though dude, comments like this help us to push through our own tough times and inspire me to keep on creating. So thanks for that dude and thanks for taking the time to watch all these years :-D
That's very surprising how much you gained. Did you have a go at predicting how much faster you'd be if you had the confidence? In conclusion, would you recommend only bike training or like 75/25 mix for specific areas that perhaps don't improve by more riding? Excellent experiment. That was quite emotional lol. ✌️
Thanks for taking the time to watch dude, i'm glad it's not just me getting emotional at the end lol To answer your question I think for young riders/kids on bike training is the most important thing for sure. Nothing beats that seat time, learning your bike and the tracks. But the older/ more serious you get mixing in other types of training becomes more important i would say. Strength and flexibility probably being the two main areas to work on away from the bike, endurance and cardio can be improved whilst on the bike i think after doing this challenge
I was wrong on both counts. I thought you'd have lost more weight but seen less time improvement. I'm an old guy and agree/relieved I don't have to go running lol. Strength and flexibility over and above makes a lot of sense too. Excellent job bro. Enjoy the new found speed 😊
Max, I know you read the comments ... so here goes. I used to work 8 weeks on -- 8 weeks off in the offshore oil & gas game. We ate like kings on board the boats so I used to gain 8-12kg's per trip, and I never exercised offshore (too shagged at the end of my shift!).
On getting home I'd be on my RM 250 (with oversized fuel tank) enduro riding for 4-4.5 hours per day, 5 days per week. After re-hydrating, I'd see a consistent weight loss of 0.8kg per day, and I'd be back to my 'normal' weight after 3 weeks, and my fitness would be back to peak. The following weeks before going offshore again would increase my stamina immensely, and my skill level and comfort levels really used to make me proud of myself.
Then, I'd fly overseas again and morph back into an unfit fat slob within 2 weeks. I repeated this cycle for 12 years, until I had a very bad crash, then never rode my dirt bike again! Sad days, for sure.
I sure miss those days; and watching you doing this challenge really had me melancholic for those good times. Mate, you're only young once ... so make the most of it. Grind whilst you can grind, and you'll have no regrets later in life when it's too bloody late to make amends!
Thanks Max, your video & challenge achievement should make you proud, just as watching it made me proud of what I did when I was younger.
Thanks, I really appreciate your comment :)
Very cool video max!
I for one would have been very curious to see stats like how you lap times faded less over the motos over time. Number of laps completed over time.
I did guess at about a 10second saving but it was clear you were ripping towards the end.
Thanks for taking the time to watch dude :-D Pretty much every moto I did was recorded on the CUO device (other than the rides I did on other machines) so I have all the data. Maybe a follow up video is needed. I will say the lap time fade through the month certainly got a lot better...although on day 30 in my final moto i did two laps at maximum effort mid way through the moto and the laps after dropped off a looot! lol
@@999lazer Thanks for the insights. Was an epic experiment.
Hat off! Respect 🤜🤛
Thanks for watching :-D
I road my bike literally every day in June at least 2 laps on a 10 km loop rough single track stuff most of time , the trail is an old skidoo trail the 2023 wr has got all that lap time right in the app that’s part of the ecu tuning for the two different custom maps can be loaded . I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my riding skills . I’ve got a wr 250f 2023 model it’s fully uncorked I got the gytr race baffle for the stock exhaust wow this bike absolutely rips , I love it , I also have a 2024 yz 250 x my son rides that one . I ride once in awhile. We trade up while out on rides .
Yes I thought You looked much better on the Bike after 30 days and it was proof You did 9 seconds better good on You Max cheers Mick
Thanks Mick! I could feel in myself that i had improved but I never thought 9 seconds would be possible. Thanks for watching :-)
You know what i found helped back in the day? I practiced on my 450 then raced my 250. Obviously same tires, grips, bars, sag, whatever settings with the possibility of being the same. I live in the southeast part of Lake Tahoe. It's still Nevada so lots of BLM land. I have a really, REALLY badass track that's similar to Carson Brown's home track but it's like 3 miles long. It's ridiculous. There's a section that's like 600 feet long and it's all singles. It was so whooped out it took 2 days to make them jumpable. I've quadded, gotten 5 a few times and that's 80 feet. They're all from 4-7 feet tall it's one of the finest things you'll ever ride. The track goes back and forth like a halfpipe down into this meadow. All the really big Berthas are down there. Big 140 foot natural tabletop, 120 foot step down, cliff drop with no lip and a SUPER long landing i have to hit 5th pinned on my 250 it's so much fun. There's a small double double section you can quad and this over 160 feet. It's really big you can't do it on a 250 if you weigh 200 lbs. 2 stroke 250 will do it but you gotta really really stretch it. Then straight up sections in the woods. Super tight 180 degree berms into pretty much natural rhythm sections most of them took a bit of shovel work from like 10 of us on a weekend. Anyway on my home track, I'll moto the 250 one day, 450 next day, then the 250 next day. My lap times always improve from the first day. Im riding 10/10ths on the edge. It works. Just gotta have the m means for both bikes.
That track sounds insane! Would love to check it out one day
Impressive gains 🤘
I was amazed at the results! Thanks for taking the time to watch dude
Just started the video. Back in my day 1990's through 2000. I had no one coaching me and made it to a pro license. I messed myself up after that. I wanted it and did it myself. Anyone can do it now especially if you want it with more focus on this sport from all the schools and all that.
now that is a good video. !
Excellent little test, only suggestion would have been to do day 1 and final day lap times at moto 101 with all the other days at the donk to see how much difference it would have made, next time maybe 🤙🏽
Great video 👍
Thanks for watching dude
Well done max! But why 4t your a 2t man? You still smashed it m8!
👊✊️💨💨💨
We managed to sneak in a few 2 Stroke motos in the middle there! ;-D GasGas offered to loan me to bike for the summer and the opportunity was just too good to refuse. This video idea was perfect for it as well and the CUO / mobile app made it much easier to track my progress. The next challenge we'll make a 2 Stroke one though! :-D Thanks for watching as always mate
Nice…👍🏼 Can you please hunt down and post a video with a 1973 PUCH 125or250GS dirtbike/motocross? My best friend growing had one him and his dad never got it to run well for any length of time.
Thanks.. Keep up the great content👍🏼👍🏼🍻
Loved this video - FANTASTIC!!!!!! How many times did you crash during the challenge?
Thanks Joseph! Somehow I only managed two crashes across the entire 3 days (both shown in the vid) and the second was just a slip off really
great job
Thanks David!
Interesting video. I wish I could go to the track more often, but most tracks won't have me because I am disabled (wheelchair user) quad bike rider Most tracks blame it on insurance policys so I can only really go every other Sunday at Leisure Lakes mx Southport. They have been amazing with me🙂
Leisure Lakes are awesome for that! Thanks for watching Gee
Prefect practice makes it quicker tho!😉
Amazing!
Thanks for watching dude!
Surprise you know where washing machine is Max 😂
haha so true :)
change circuit often and train on a 250 2t motorbike, in the morning 2 ride of 25 minutes and in the afternoon repeat the routine, train every other day, by doing so you will greatly improve your performance level and strength
I learnt a lot during the making of this, many things i know i would do different if we were to go again. Changing circuit being the main one i would tell anyone to make sure to do. Thanks for watching dude
Amazing wish i can ride like you and jump
Interesting challenge. Now it’s time to get some regular and complimentary miles in on a mountain bike 👍
I'd love to get out on the mountain bike. Our Drone guy Dan is big into the MTB scene is always trying the get me out with him down in the surrey hills....there aren't too many mountains in Cambridgeshire though! lol
@@999lazer Just pluggin around in the flatlands mud and greasy woods will get you fitter. You don’t necessarily need big climbs👍🚵♂🚵♀
No coaching seems silly, imperfect practice equals imperfect results, perfect practice makes perfect, that's what my coaches always taught
I think it would be interesting to do the experiment again but switch quantity will quality and have a coach help level me up. Thanks for watching Matty!
After a month you will be walking around like mr universe 😂
My forearms certainly felt like it haha! Thanks for watching Simon :-D
@999lazer I enjoyed the video I'm a big fan 👊👍❤
daily take a ride on the bike really pay's off bud very havy on fysiek i think you did very good keeping this up for me 2 day's a week is is good feeling so torqd the day later ..
Let's do this challenge again, but this time with all focus on lessons to improve, and recovery to keep up in tip top shape
I think there's a second video for sure where we focus on coaching on the bike and fitness off the bike to see what difference that makes
Aye Max...did you not go to the MXoN this year cob?
Couldn't make it there this year dude...the FOMO was killing me! lol
@@999lazershame...you put together such a brilliant production last year.
999.9 Lazer 💥
Yep I'd be installing damper bars and other shock-killing technology to deal with all the pump and fatigue.
Thought this was a 2 stroke channel. Should've rode the RM 250
I love all dirt bikes to be fair, 2 Strokes are obviously preferred though. But for a challenge like this I'd much rather put the hours on a loan bike...it would've been a lot more painful putting the time in on the RM that's for sure! lol
Always said you dont need riding coaches all you need is practice practice practice
Practice makes Perfect! ;-D Thanks for watching dude
Now the real test single track
Now I would like to see a program where you changed your diet, exercised, and rode the bike 3 to 4 days a week.
That's a great idea for a sequel! Thanks for watching Scott
you never wear a neck brace? im so confused... has motocrossed changed that much since 2010?
From about 2008 to 2016 I wore a neck brace every time i rode....since then not at all. My last one got damaged whilst in the gear bag and i just never replaced it. Hardly any top pros wear them anymore either, maybe that's why I didn't feel much urgency to replace mine...
@ I really believe they help, look into it a bit, We would zip tie it to our chest protector, but back then we had the ones that went over the jersey and included shoulder pads.
Hi bud what track is this?
It's called the Donk track near Kings Lynn. Private membership only but i think there's space to join up :-D
Stop your mucking about and finish the Panthera build 😂
Haha There's only so much workshop i can look at, i had to switch up the edit for a week lol Back on the 600 build now though ;-)
@@999lazer I am only kidding. Wishing you guys the best on that build. Please be as transparent as possible about the purchase/acquisition, install and final thoughts before I shell out big $. 👊🏼
Big max 🇵🇹🇬🇧🇺🇲💪🤘✌️
Never wear a t-shirt wile riding...it gets wet and stops the airflow, which make you overheat. Better to wear like a basketball vest or similar if your armor irritate your skin, or change armor, or wear it on the outsite. I started riding before internet was a thing, had nobody to ask for tips and tricks, so had to learn the hard way with t-shirt and hockey chest pads....
