@fivewattworld asked me to record a Mark Knopfler inspired introduction, so this was that. Here's how I dialled in the clean tone, which I thought came out quite nicely!
This preset will be called "JC Knopfler" in the folder for Helix/Hx Stomp/Native. Let me know if you want me to try to create it on Pod?
/ johnnathancordy you can get my backing tracks and lesson tabs here.

only if you wanted, you could buy me a coffee!
Get my PADs bundle here: www.paypal.com... (this folder will grow, and I'd encourage you to ask for different keys/songs and stuff that might suit this type of preset?)
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
Try my general patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...

Hey John. I would recommend the first 2 Dire Straits albums to hear Mark at his best. Others will disagree maybe, but for me these two albums are what really defined him. 'Down to the waterline' and 'Wild West End' are both great tunes :)
I agree. I prefer the shorter, simpler songs, before they got all epic and orchestral and ten minutes long. My favorite is "Where Do You Think You're Going". Great economy of sound, structure and harmony ... Mark himself seems to still relish playing "Once Upon a Time in the West" live.
I absolutely agree.
Totally agree, but then i remember stuff like Telegraph Road - what a wonderful storyteller he is
I love those albums! So great. I’m partial to Making Movies, love that album so much.
I just finished the edit. I’ll make it live for Patrons tonight and the world tomorrow morning. Thanks for doing this John!!!
Excellent video as always.
Now with the 3.50 update it is possible to use the 63 spring reverb and distortion without having to switch to glitz.
BTW Sorry for my English
Now dis some toan
Can you do a Pod Go version of this for the Google Drive please? 🙏😊🎸🔥
I think Mark Knopfler's solo albums are even better than Dire Straits's. Take a listen to Sailing To Philadelphia -- it has some guest appearances by James Taylor, Paul Simon and Van Morrison too.
Knopfler’s solo stuff is amazing. Kill To Get Crimson and Shangri-La are two that you absolutely have to hear front to back.
Dire Straits - Making Movies is the album I have to listen to the whole thing if one of the soonest pops up on a shuffle playlist.
I can't find this patch in the Helix and HX Stomp General Presets from Gumroad. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks!
Every now and then I re-discover the Dire Straits song Planet Of New Orleans. Beautiful melancholy vibes and great guitar tones. I'd also recommend their live album On The Night. The re-arrangements of the songs are great, almost gospel-y. And Phil Palmer (on second guitar) is also great. His strat tones are amazing! Great vid btw!
Hi Jonathan. which is the folder with that preset?
Regards
The les Paul amp tone sounds just like Andy Powell of wishbone ash(one of his tones that is)..Could you share that setting with me? Thanks
Seems like the perfect sponsor! Also love seeing butters back.
Oh, please, do that tone in the Pod Go.
I like these build videos. Your playing demonstrating how to use the preset musically.
I find this nudges me into trying different styles of playing. Thanks.
Hit the nail on the head! Dialled it in with the Rochester up front with the '63 spring, stereo plate and on the strat in second position - sounding perfect for Sultans - Great work and thanks
That Les Paul tone!!! 😍
Yes please to the patch 👍🏻👍🏻
From Wikipedia: "Paul Crowther invented the Hotcake [1] guitar distortion pedal in 1976, which has openly been used by Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House, Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Hugh Harris of The Kooks, Buzz Osborne of The Melvins, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Stephen Malkmus of Pavement and The Jicks, J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. ..." He was the Split Enz drummer.
Best Dire Straits album I have heard anyway....Love Over Gold, almost every song.....except Industrial Disease....by the way if you want to focus on another great guitarist look at Neal Schon...the song Caruso soars and his album Beyond The Thunder might be right up your alley I think....It would be nice to hear your take on the dynamics of Caruso......(Helix)...Cheers!
Listen to kings call by phil lynott ft. Mark Knopfler!!!!
Neil and Liam Finn of Crowded House both use the Hot Cake, which was created by one of the members of Split Enz.
the clean was pretty close to The Notting Hillbillies, his drive tone is amazing. check this:

he was using soldano slo100
Thanks for this. If I could find Mark Knopfler's various tones I would consider my purpose on earth done.
Hey, on his recent tour in 2019 his pedals included a King of Tone (expensive 😅) and and Boss Blues Driver (more my price 😅). He’s used a whole host to be honest but most of the time they’re on a rack and controlled by his tech with him just using a volume pedal on stage. The Hotcake was mainly used live for the lead section on the song “Boom, Like That” in 2005. I never go as far as to try and recreate his sound, I’m not that good. However, cranking your amp is sort of the secret with all the dynamism then coming from fingers/volume pedal. He also used in most of his solo career the neck pickup on his ‘58 Les Paul although in the last 10 years it’s changed to Neck or Neck and Bridge together. He’s also used middle and neck on a Strat or a Pensa for the song Telegraph Rd. There’s also something about how he finger picks. For example he says his thumb regularly drifts down to the G and B strings rather than remaining up on the bass strings. He’s the king of dynamics with muted notes you barely here but are there. From his solo work Speedway at Nazareth, Beryl, Cleaning my Gun, Terminal of Tribute too, Good on you son, Imelda, Vic and Ray, Corned Beef City, 5:15am, Boom, Like That, Song for Sonny Liston. Give some deep tracks to listen too. If you can find the unmixed 2 track version of Hill Farmer Blues on the Deluxe Version of the album Privateering you’ve hit nivarna.
Killer. Way do dial in a HIGHLY usable quack tone!
Very interested in Crowther hot cake as I am trying to capture Neil Finn's guitar tone, which is hot caked to high heaven. There does not seem to be a modelled example anywhere.
Can you replicate them for Pod GO?
If you try this on the FM3, the North Church and South Church reverbs are supposed to be based on the Bricasti.
John, I think you nailed it!
Really looking forward to Keith’s Five Watt treatment.
Great tones and playing John. Mark Knopfler has been using Kemper for live shows in the last few years rather than tube amps.
"In the Gallery" is an awesome guitar song! Give that a listen.
OH YEAH ! Hella good one brother ...
nice hair cut sir
