    You should've tested it on a broadband wire, probably a fiber optic extension cable and tested it

      for outdoor application, there is a need to provide strain relief and provide a protection for the fiber. that us why there is a need for this type of connector with a simple closure

    Derped at 4:20 - You got no strain relief, since the jacket isn't held by the splice connector holder.. :)

      Yes, the splice connector does not have the strain relief. The booth of the housing will hold the jacket of the cable. Also, the messenger wire was also rejoined together to provide at least strain relief

      Average splice loss of the mechanical splice used is 0.1 dB

      @@masbate1371 there are several parameters to check in a optical link. One of this is insertion loss. Every component of an optical link will have corresponding insertion loss. For the mechanical splice connector used, average insertion loss is 0.1 dB

      @@hsbofficial211 Indeed, no getting away from that unless you use an expensive kit that fuses the fiber together.
      For a quick and cheap method this is manageable.

      this would have low splice loss than using coupler or adapter. but can as long as the power budget is acceptable

      It depends on your customer specific requirement. Some telco would allow this some would not. But it works fine. The mechanical splice connector is a known brand and being used for almost 30 years now. The application is new though as ftth technology is new depending on which country.

      You will have a hard time splicing the fiber if you will not cut the messenger wire.

      Well it is a quick fix. It works till you get new cable. Especially if it is a long cable.

      @@bradleykifer13 if fiber asw. Put a slack nid on a pole near break pull slack from each end and mechanical ends your done or just replace the drop.
