Join me and Bez on a walk to look at how Yellow rattle can transform a meadow.
Yellow Rattle, Hay shackle or Rhinanthus minor is a parasitic plant that is used to help increase biodiversity in meadows by weakening grass. This then allows a broader range of flowering plants to compete in the meadow with thuggish grasses. Which in turn attract more species of insects, mammals and birds.
It has attractive small yellow flowers and its seed heads of the plant rattle once ripe hence the name Yellow Rattle.
