Ft Irwin is one of the best-kept secrets in the Army, The Lts going to the Blackhorse Rgt after Armor Officer Basic will get the best Training in the world At the National Training Center, where the Finest NCOs in the Army will teach you everything that is not in the "Book", any book including field logistics, Sleep schedule on 24-hour alert status, Commo in Mountainous terrain, Water/Fuel Conservation. Alpine Skiing at Big Bear and the Las Vegas Strip is less than 3 hours away.
Armor Baby! I have much respect for arty & the 11Bush guys but as a former 19kilo of course Armor is near & dear to my heart. Germany or Ft Carson are the best choices here, hands down. Some love Korea & maybe you’re a Washington or Kansas home towner so Ft Lewis or Ft Riley would be in your favor although you’re not really traveling which is one of the perks of the military. Again, Germany & Ft Carson are by far the best posts. A lot of my friends loved Korea but it’s obviously not for everyone. I never went but apparently it’s colder in winter & hotter in summer than Colorado which can be rough enough when you spend half the year in the field.
It’s Armor and trust me the infantry is alway’s glad to see us on the battlefield. There’s something comforting about a 72 ton beast that can reach out and touch the enemy at 4000 meters before they even realize that we are in the area.

Watched part of the post night for infantry, and they loved Italy quite a bit more than Germany. And for the Navy equivalent of this event, the first person to choose a foreign posting (at least for Japan and Spain) got a sword present by officers from that country.
So a West Point cadet get his or her branch and first post assignment even before passing Armor Basic Officer Course? What happens if the newly minted 2nd Lt fails Armor School? I know it does not mean much because I got commissioned through Army ROTC( I know I was a second rate officer because of this). I had to wait two years for my slot at For Rucker back in the 1980’s. By the time I got my date I had gotten a full civilian job and could not make it to flight school. I got kicked down to the National Guard and went to Amor School instead. Of course the Guard in CA did not have any Armor Platoon openings then and I ended up in IRR. So there are two US Army’s: 1) West Point Graduates 2) Everyone else. It is what it is. I wish had known before I got into Army ROTC.
I did ROTC in the early 1990’s… commissioned MP in May, went to Airborne School and went to OBC in August. Most of my OBC Class was ROTC and the Ring Knockers weren’t special…. We were all Butter Bars.

That must have been a great job to pass up flight school. The Nevada Nat’l Guard might have had a slot in Las Vegas with the 221st Cavalry. (116th Cav)
There is something very alarming West Point doesn't like to speak about and it's the fact that a massive number of graduates will choose to leave the military after their bare minimum active time is up and a large percentage may not even fulfill their minimum obligation. All that insanely hard work at the Academy and you would think it would produce a majority who will retire from the Army but it does not. Watch as cadets pretend that they are about to choose the PADSO route as a joke. Even they know they're not staying past the minimum.
That's why it's the minimum. Somebody decided 8 years of service was sufficient payback. Also it's a pyramid so some won't be promoted past a certain point. We don't need thousands of Generals.
Yeah, my kid got commissioned infantry out of ROTC. Since I paid for all four years of college he was only obligated to serve three years but he did four. He said a whole bunch of West Point guys were always trying to weasel their way out of the Army before their ADSO was up. wtf.
@thebigmon when someone does pick PADSO it's a mixed cheer of surprise and sarcasm because they know it's a suckers move. A peace time military is all too often a mundane existence. The majority will never retire from the military but instead use the educational opportunities for graduate degrees and careers outside of the military.
Time to close the academies, all of them. ROTC/OCS turn out far more officers, of at least equal quality, for far less money. Academies started when almost nobody went to college. Now anyone can. Redundant and wasteful.

I’ve been saying that for years I tried get that post forever and I got Carson and I was told it’s one of the hardest post to get

173rd AB is popular with the armor branch, too!

Agreed brother, Hood and Stewart are the worst
How are there tanker slots in places like the 173rd, 82nd, and 101st? I thought Airborne units didn't have tanks
Fort Irwin got picked before Bliss? What's the deal with everyone being scared of 1AD?
1AD is straight ass. The post is nice but the units, deployments and optempo are horrible.
One thing to understand is, these picks were probably done in advance. In other words, their names are already on the cards, I think.
Blackhorse tradition my friend! ALLONS !!
surely it's not as ass as it used to be?
Fort Bliss is awful
I think the Army needs to take a look at why the only Armored Division did not have a cadet in the top 50 choose 1 AD at Fort Bliss.
It’s a shit hole that’s why and you can’t go over to mexico
I'll give you a hint. It's near El Paso.
Because the titling of a division hasn't meant anything since the late 90s
Because Fort Bliss is ass. It's crazy that Hood got picked before Bliss though.
@@TxInfinity I would much rather be at Hood than Bliss. Hood is like an hour from Austin.

To get Army Aviation from West Point are you required to take the SIFT test first?
Love you Becah Love 😊Grandude and Granpa
I think most of these cadets need to visit the barber shop..Semper Fidelis.

What is Padso?
i think an extra 3 years of service
Post active duty service obligation. You take on extra time for getting your post of choice.
means you gotta do extra time

its not Fort Hood anymore
It was in January.
And it will be in our hearts forever.
It's always going to be Fort Hood same with Fort Bragg.

No one wants Drum...lol
I hope this isn't real. Hate to see the units that need good officers get the crap of the crop.
Their new commanders (especially at Hood and Bliss) will probably make them cry.....
Why is Korea not a choice
Because Iron Brigade isn’t a thing anymore. It’s a rotational brigade. Depressing.
As a 19E/19K went to Korea twice 88-89/ 91-92
