Great footage, George. If you can try to find yourself a copy of the book "Nyiragongo: The Forbidden Volcano" by Haroun Tazieff, a French volcanologist who was one of the world's great authorities on Nyiragongo and who conducted some remarkable expeditions down into the caldera and right down to the lava lake itself; it's a damn good read. I'm also trying to locate footage of his 1948 expedition which was quite spectacular

Growing up I used to think of volcanoes as something just like this, a cone with a lake of lava in the caldera. Now days I see this and I think how weird they are compared to mountains like those in the Cascade Range (St. Helens, Rainier, Hood, Shasta, etc.)
Very cool video, I wish I could see something like this in person.

A 33-year-old female tourist from Hong Kong died after falling 200 meters onto a ledge in the crater of Nyiragongo. The woman climbed 15 meters in to get a better photo of the lava lake against tour guides' warnings. She lost her balance and slipped ... into the process of natural selection.

@Sreewtyui Actually, a modern incinerator is as hot as or hotter than lava is, and is a much more easily controlled environment. Keep the incinerator.

@Sirius4827 Volcanoes is al natural, cars aren't. Volcanoes don't just throw CO2 in the air. They do a lot more than this and a lot of it is positive too.

What a remarkable look into the face of our Earth's Creator. For those Who "BELIEVE" otherwise, This is what created the Earth and every mountain and canyon and green forest from the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the deepest sea Volcano's shaped and formed every inch. All life flows from these fiery depths of
"hell" They bring forth life and can take it away in the blink of an eye. Truly amazing if looked through the eyes of science and not fairy tales. Regards to all. PEACE BE WITH YOU

It would probably be an extraordinarily quick death if it's hot enough to be fluid like that. But I'm not in a hurry to find out.
Up until the middle of the 20th century, the volcano Mihara south of Tokyo was a popular place for depressed Japanese and crazy lovers to snuff it. There was a lookout from which one could leap into the flow in the crater. Twisted people used to watch and cheer the suicides. The Japanese finally put up a barrier to keep people from jumping.

With all that available energy the Planet has to offer, I can't understand why Scientists aren't looking at ways for us to Benefit from it. We would at least start to live in harmony with the Earth then instead of the primitive way we resource energy at the moment.
