Hi brian sorry i been away been working a lot. Wanted to share an idea. So patrol poncho and liner. A hunting hand warmer muff thing with a belt. And hiking gaiters. Thinking the Obi Wan Kenobi mode could be useful. Could keep your core dry and out of the wind. Muff keeps your core area insulated so from belt area up does not lose heat. Gaiters are cheap and keep your lower legs dry. A guy could wear it and sleep in it. And if loft can be found or made and out of wind. And a big wool blanket and tarp could really bolster your ability to stay alive. Dry lower legs can enhance your level of comfort. Dry feet help too. An extra large hi viz vest over the poncho could help you be seen if lost. I like simple flexible gear.
If you are out and about in cold windy weather a cloth rain poncho is a life saver. They stop wind infiltration that makes a lot of coats and such that are supposed to be great not all that useful as well as keeping you dry. Have a place to do two mile hikes and my winter clothes weren't working. Wore a poncho and suddenly I was too warm. I've since learned to layer with a poncho or other cloth rain gear. It may look stupid on a cold sunny day but it keeps the warm air in and the cold air out. For hiking I just keep my hands inside and warm. I'm going to have to think about getting this combo. Brian was right that you can simply hunker down and be your own shelter. Not the way I'd want to spend a night in the woods but a lot more survivable than otherwise. I have two wool ponchos bought from some people in south America. The wind went right through them but with a rain poncho to kill the wind I can stand what a TN boy would consider to be some very cold weather. Each to their own.
The poncho liner is very well made, but made for a Boy Scout size person. Shoulder size was way to tight for me, but fine for my wife. Wish they came in sizes. I like the blanket, haven’t got the poncho yet. Played hell getting the liner back into the bag, but did it. The blanket will fit into my double wide sleeping bag, perfect , so I won’t have to pack it into the bag, for storage. I ended up ordering a Military liner, for size. Mine was made in China, explains the size. Definitely warm!😁
Snugpak is where it's at. They make some niaaaze stuff. Got several dry bags for clothes, food and misc. items from them. Still going strong. Thanks for the review.
I have the SnugPak Bunker tent with a Big Agnes cot and two Uco candle lanterns. Getting out of the MSS on a cold morning is No Problem. I swear by SnugPak. Even though I already have a Hazard 4 Poncho, being that this one comes in coyote and has a liner to go with it plus I have a Amazon gift card makes this one a freebie. Thanks for the review.
Good review. Just ordered the liner discount from Amazon warehouse sales. Unfortunately I have to order the Poncho from the UK cuz nobody here sells it anymore in Canada. Next time you should step back from the camera so people can see the full length of it how long it goes.
There is a trade off when you have an inclosed poncho like the Snugpak Enhanced Patrol Poncho. On the plus side you don't have potential rain and wind blowing through the sides that can happen with a non enclosed poncho. The down side is that with little ventilation you get soaked from your own sweat.
I have used Snugpak when I did some work for the British Army & it keeps out even a fine mist which goes to the bones some day's... I wish it had 1 vent hole hidden behind the neck, cause after walking with a backpack your gonna feel the Heat at the Top of you in 10 mins. Hmm wonder if its good for wheelchair use too :-/
Check out the Poncho Survival Shelter by wilderness innovation . Best poncho in the world! It is a poncho, tarp, and hammock. They also make liners, under quilts, top quilts that snap to it. As for snugpak, there are several accounts of snugpaks failing in heavy rain. Their front pocket also leaks.
I’ve got both, Snugpack for kid & wife sized people, & the Wilderness Innovation for me. I felt I had been bit in the Rear, with Snugpack, but it put me on the search for USA Quality, & I found it in Wildernesses Innovations.
My only hammock is a Snugpak Jungle Hammock. (BTW... I use the ENO Atlas straps). I also have their all purpose shelter/tarp. Both very good quality items! I was looking at the patrol ponchos for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. They have very good reviews... I think this review may have put me over the top. So many better features than Frogg Toggs. I think they can do without the liners though... Here in Michigan we wear real coats in the colder weather. Thanks Bryan.
I saw that one British guy reviewing these... you know him... the SnugPak guy! I've been waiting for a couple good ol' Merican boys to review the poncho. Ben (Living Survival) and yourself.... that'll do it for me!
I was looking to see if there were any reviews on ponchos that don’t make you sweat much. In my mind I’m thinking gore tex poncho. This works. Thanks Bryan.
Good video! Too bad they didn't put "pit zips" in the poncho, I went with the Hazard4 Poncho Villa 'cause I use chest rigs. I'm wondering how well the liner would work with it? I do have the Snugpak jungle Bag. Thumbs up!
Cool liner, looks warm. I don't think it would be very practical for backpacking as it weight almost as much as my tent but I could see keeping it in the car for emergencies.
Man you looked just like an old black bear for a minute...LOL. Both items look great but I really like the Poncho liner. Thanks for the review. atb Opal
IKEA has great ponchos for around $5 if you need several ones in keep in multiple locations. I've used them is storms and they work good. I also have a Hazard 4 Poncho Villa as my hardcore one.
It is not a poncho if you ask me. Against driving rain in cold weather it is good, great even, if you are not marching and sweating a lot. But what about in warmer or hot weather if it rains? And how about setting up a shelter with it with it's grommets? Does "patrol" mean standing around in cold weather and rain?
Great review and I agree, Snugpak does make some very good gear at a VERY fair price. I haven't seen this before, but for the price, I think I'm going to have to get this set up. I still have my same HEAVY poncho and liner I had back in the 80's when I was in the infantry. It still works and I love it, but maybe it's time to try something new. Keep up the great work.
Pretty funny video. I love Snugpack gear. Didn't know until this video that they had this poncho though. Thanks for the 411. BTW, the beard is rockin'. Looks good. You look more......uh......woodsy. :-)
Wow this is REALLY nice! I have to say this is one of the best I have seen I like how its closed and actually has sleeves. Great review! All the best, Dawn
Great review I have the same poncho but I don't have the liner and I also have a snugpak sasquatch jacket multicam which has a comfort rating of -15 a great jacket for the winter time
Much much better than what I currently own and the prices are fair as well. In the last scene you looked like a mad wizard running off into the woods with your magic skunk!! LOL!!!!!!!!!! >;-D
i got my Snugpak poncho today. i have a question/request of you.how to increase the lower temp range of this with a liner?will taping mylar into the poncho help keep the heat in? the usual layering of your clothing should bring some good results.but keeping your lower legs dry and windproof would be beneficial and i think some over trousers made from same material could be very useful.anyways, take care and keep the videos coming and have a Merry Christmas for you and your close ones.
Great video do the ponchos clip together and join well at the cuffs? Sorry if you answer in the video but at work playing on silence, like your style so subbing
+Carmille Marsten -- I live in the same basic area as Brian and Yes it is much warmer than normal here so far this "winter". I guess we can just enjoy it while it lasts! Namaste'
What's your guess on the temp range for both? I was thinking about getting a set for wandering around lake Tahoe this winter season but would look out of place.
I prefer items that can serve more than one task. I don't like the sleeves the Snugpak poncho. First it looks kinda goofy and blimpy. But the main thing is that it cannot be used as a tarp/shelter which is a big minus for me.
+Rangersly I don;t care how goofy it looks if it keeps me dry The fact that it can't be used as a tarp is the very reason it works so well as a poncho.
Well, you might as well use a rain-proofed jacket or coat then. You will be less prone to get snagged in branches while walking in the woods, be more comfortable, and it will take less space than this "two sleeping bags-sized" system and still have room for a back pack rain cover (and then some!). Humble suggestion from an fan subscriber: one way of not sounding like a company man (which seems to be a concern of yours, not one of mine) would be to do reviews with a pros vs cons system. And maybe spread out reviews for products from the same company, alternate with similar items from other companies. Even better, compare similar gear from different brands and explain why you prefer the Snugpak one over the others. But always consider that your viewers might not have the same preferences or needs. Thus the "pro vs cons". I for one like the versatility of a poncho that can be used as a shelter (and I bet I'm in far from alone in this). I wouldn't allocate the precious space in my backpack to a poncho system that needs two small sleeping bag sacks. Just my two cents, for what it's worth.
First of all I want to let you know that I just finished my fifth and final wood badge ticket item! Secondly, I was wondering how difficult it is to get into and out of this poncho and liner combination?
Survival On Purpose yeah I might look at them. I'm just looking for a cheap light compact one for amusement parks and day hikes just in case I get caught in a surprise rainshower.
I used the poncho and it leaked like a sieve , I contacted snugpak but was unable to find my online receipt so lesson learnt . Keep your receipt you may need it

Good points

It's NOISY. PERIOD.
Bothy bag, instead of tarp. Very cool
Snugpak is where it's at. They make some niaaaze stuff. Got several dry bags for clothes, food and misc. items from them. Still going strong. Thanks for the review.
I completely agree. Everything from them I have seen is first class. Thanks for watching!
thats one high speed low drag poncho !
+Pappy Yes it is.
I just ordered poncho, liner, & blanket for $123.74. Keeping it in the vehicle, for emergencies, & snow blowing, thanks, good video 👍🏻👌🏻
cool
it is as you say quality stuff and you aren't wrong about a good workout getting the poncho liner back in the sack
I use the liner as a summer sleeping cover
I have a lot of snugpaks equipment. And compared to all my military gear from the Army, I really enjoy all of it. Thanks for the upload.
thanks

You deserve a big, tall glass of sweet tea after that penetrating sun lighting your review. Thanks for the demo!
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Snug pack products. Is good stuff excellent camping products and the bomb.
Good review. Just ordered the liner discount from Amazon warehouse sales. Unfortunately I have to order the Poncho from the UK cuz nobody here sells it anymore in Canada. Next time you should step back from the camera so people can see the full length of it how long it goes.
I have the Snugpak jungle blanket I really like it , but as far as a poncho and liner I'll take the old military poncho and liner.
Might check this out
Looks cool, makes a lot of noise though 😄
I used a snugpak jungle blanket when my down doona was getting dry cleaned.
It got well and truly stuffed back in it's bag afterwards!
ive used snugpak hammocks for a long time and they are of highest quality too.
+Ei Pi Yes they are.
My liner is arriving tomorrow. Thanks for the video!
You'll like it

Love God Love your channel Thanks Brian. Snugpac 2 Thumbs up.
It sounds like there's a good reason to upgrade the liner's carry sack to a right sized dry bag.
+05generic Excellent idea.
Great job buddy! Ciao
Great gear from Snugpak, got my eye on the Sleeka rucksack at present, my British army patrol pack isn't too far from biting the dust!!
+jelkel25 They make great stuff.
It's 60°F today in NY, is't straight up insane this year.

+Stanley Sprow Doctor? What doctor?
They do make some really good stuff. Great Video
+Eric McNeil Thanks Eric.
It's 57 degrees in most of Canada today. Feels like June.
+John Campbell I know.
I bought two of these. Next time I'll try to walk.

Ordered two...thanks
You will be glad you did.

Poncho vs long raincoat with backpack?
Good video! Too bad they didn't put "pit zips" in the poncho, I went with the Hazard4 Poncho Villa 'cause I use chest rigs. I'm wondering how well the liner would work with it? I do have the Snugpak jungle Bag. Thumbs up!
This one works great for me. And I used just the liner as a summer blanket on my sea kayak trip in July
Does the liner have thumb holes to hold the sleeves when you put the regular poncho on?
I'm going to get the Snugpack liner for under my Hazard4 poncho
You'll be warm.
superb review just what the survival doctor ordered
Thanks
Cool liner, looks warm. I don't think it would be very practical for backpacking as it weight almost as much as my tent but I could see keeping it in the car for emergencies.
I used the liner as my sleeping cover during a week long kayak trip in the summer of 2016.
another great video. thanks Brian
Thanks for watching.
Thank you ObieWan.
+Tom Olofsson may the force be with you
Man you looked just like an old black bear for a minute...LOL. Both items look great but I really like the Poncho liner. Thanks for the review. atb Opal

+drielok Cool.
Enjoying the video so far :)
Thanks.
Also a home run review, thanks!
+Bob Wampler Thanks Bob.
Mayhaps OK for hiking/camping. Not so much for hunting. Waaay too noisy. Check out the Helikon Tex Swagman. Stay safe, my Friends!

Good stuff Brian, I have the poncho and a jungle blanket I didn't know about their poncho liner much like the poncho it's unique, gonna get one.
I use it for a cover in the summer as well
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks!
great review and i like it
+phyllis mulkey Thanks.

Pretty funny video. I love Snugpack gear. Didn't know until this video that they had this poncho though. Thanks for the 411. BTW, the beard is rockin'. Looks good. You look more......uh......woodsy. :-)
+bashfulbrother The poncho rocks. The beard...not so much. It's gone.
awesome! I need to save up and get me one. thanks.
+dandandatreeman It is a good one.
How does the Snugpak poncho and poncho liner compare to the Helikon-Tex Poncho And Swagman Roll Poncho liner?
I have no idea
Wow this is REALLY nice! I have to say this is one of the best I have seen I like how its closed and actually has sleeves. Great review! All the best, Dawn
+SouthPaw Bushcraft I cpmpletely agree Dawn. No more flapping in he wind.
Meaning it is NOT a poncho.
Great review I have the same poncho but I don't have the liner and I also have a snugpak sasquatch jacket multicam which has a comfort rating of -15 a great jacket for the winter time
Good stuff
Much much better than what I currently own and the prices are fair as well.
In the last scene you looked like a mad wizard running off into the woods with your magic skunk!! LOL!!!!!!!!!! >;-D
;-)
What do you use to keep the poncho down at your body and from blowing upwards in a strong wind?
i got my Snugpak poncho today. i have a question/request of you.how to increase the lower temp range of this with a liner?will taping mylar into the poncho help keep the heat in? the usual layering of your clothing should bring some good results.but keeping your lower legs dry and windproof would be beneficial and i think some over trousers made from same material could be very useful.anyways, take care and keep the videos coming and have a Merry Christmas for you and your close ones.
You could try that but I'd hate to have to listen to it ;-) Proper clothing is probably better
Do you know i the liner is breathable - would it be a replacement for a typical sleeping bag liner?
It is sort of "fleece like". I used just the liner as a sleeping blanket for a couple of summer camps.
Nice review. Thanks for sharing!
Favorite poncho 2017?
Almost got the mil tec but some reviews say it leaks A LOT in front at the seams
Where is it made?
Very nice review nice product atb John
But can you use it as a tarp tent or a Ground Cloth ? No thank you... Think I will get the Mil. Spec. version. tjl
Different strokes...
I know, right? This is useless for 90 percent of what I use a poncho for.
have you tried the snugpak response pack....i picked one up a few months back and has worked out great
I have not.
Does the poncho keep you dry in the rain? Do the seams leak in the rain? These two questions are most important to me.
It works very well.
Great review Bryan. Thanks for the video. Maybe you should get some sunglasses to review. hehe
Maybe I do
Great video do the ponchos clip together and join well at the cuffs? Sorry if you answer in the video but at work playing on silence, like your style so subbing
Not really. It has actual sleeves.
I wish for a helmet adjustment in the hood
Good idea
Brian do you have experience with the US military poncho and liner? If so, how do they compare?
+bee thomas I do not.
Good morning...what size was the poncho you demoed?
Not sure. It is the standard Snugpak Patrol Poncho. I am sure the dimensions can be found at the link in the description.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose ok...thank you...it hangs down enough that rain paints would not be required is what I was curious about.
Hi Brian, is the winter in Georgia always so warm, or this is a uncommon year? Here in northern Italy is warmer than usual too...
+Carmille Marsten -- I live in the same basic area as Brian and Yes it is much warmer than normal here so far this "winter". I guess we can just enjoy it while it lasts! Namaste'
Must be global warming ;-) Wait! Stop! Forget I said that. It was a joke. Never mind.
Do they offer one for not using a pack? It looks over sized for non pack use.
I use mine with no pack and it is great.
What's your guess on the temp range for both? I was thinking about getting a set for wandering around lake Tahoe this winter season but would look out of place.
I don’t know. With proper clothing well below zero
I prefer items that can serve more than one task. I don't like the sleeves the Snugpak poncho. First it looks kinda goofy and blimpy. But the main thing is that it cannot be used as a tarp/shelter which is a big minus for me.

It is no big deal for me. Just like putting on a really loose sweater maybe.?
Is their any other ponchos made of a non pvc that's cheaper?
I am sure there are some. You might try the Frogg Toggs poncho. I don't think it is as sturdy but it is less money.
Survival On Purpose yeah I might look at them. I'm just looking for a cheap light compact one for amusement parks and day hikes just in case I get caught in a surprise rainshower.
Great review Bryan! Is the patrol poncho breathable?
I don't know. I didn't see it breathe. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'll see if I can find out.
+Survival On Purpose Haha! I know, I realized it after I click the send button. Thanks.
Will the sleeves fit someone 6'-3"?
Probably way better than no sleeves anyway.
I used the poncho and it leaked like a sieve , I contacted snugpak but was unable to find my online receipt so lesson learnt . Keep your receipt you may need it
I know your mic is on your lapel but it seemed that the poncho was loud as heck. Is it really that loud? It almost sounded like a trash bag.
It's the mic. The poncho is not loud.
Greetings from Wrocław, guess where it is ;)
+tomi2000 I give up.
+tomi2000 ...Poland ?

just a guess based on the spelling .

that is not a poncho, that is a rain jacket!
I would like to sen d you an invention for fire starting . I do not want you to promote , I would like your opinion . Ken
email me at survivalonpurpose at gmail
Nahhhh I'll stick with GI style. It's dual use shelter and rain cover! GI style can be snapped up to function the same but easier to get on and off.
I hate the sleeves make it useless if you’re wearing a coat or jacket
Look, you seem like a good guy, but that is not a poncho...The simple fact that it has sleeves, and is closed on the sides means you lose all the benefits of having a poncho ! It's more like a Cagoule..

It.
