Reading the comments about this song, and the comparison to B.L. Jefferson,. I cannot argue about , but what I will say that Guy Davis is as good as we are going to get At his present time.
saw guy in this wee part of scotland.........stil think it's a dream i dreampt up... but no....after talking to other people..he was actually here...wow...
@72bonnie he was just passing thru', on his way to another gig. and played for a couple hours to about fifty people. man , i had the very front seat...shook hands with him after he finished playing......a true gentleman..
1) There is no "tab" for the Blues, dig ? 2) Guy Davis is fantastic. 3) My favorite version of this song is by Ben Andrews, on his first album "Nightride". Unfortunately, my big brother is no longer with us, but he will never be old.....
@frg8526 not sure about the deacon l j bates thing, but lemon deffinetly recorded this back in the 20's. i've heard the recording, and fuck is it ever good. no one's played it better since.
Can someone tell me what he says on the refrain after the second "you may dig my grave with a silver spade", please? I don't get it... some thing about ball and chain...
Superb ... Guy Davis is Mr. Blues in an ol'fashion kind of way - amazing
A real HAPPY 71th Birthday to Mr. Guy Davis and really ALL the best to him ... (2023-0512)
That was proper cool, cold as ice, great voice as well, down in the roots.
This is hands down the best cover of this song I've heard.
This is masterwork of this good and great bluesman.
