I disagree with these points. If you can't strike the ball consistently in a simulator environment then how are you going to do it on the golf course? Practice is practice and if a simulator increases the practice reps it will result in improvements to your game.
I agree with the environmental factors but I think it’s misleading. If you’re swinging lots and often with good mechanics and feedback that can only help. Especially for people up north with short golf seasons and it allows us to swing out of season.
1. Saying the lie is flat and not like being on the course would also suggest the range isn’t going to help, horrible point. 2. Name a time the environment is the same on the course day to day? Getting used to the environment has nothing to do with practicing your swing. 3. The sim visual compared to on the course is the closest thing to being on the course when you can’t.honestly I like the click bait but suggesting someone can’t get better using a sim is stupid. Nothing replaces course play. There are variables in good shot to shot. Launch monitors and sims are a great tool. The mevo plus has helped my game a lot. In Chicago the simulator keeps my progress in my swing continue into spring. I 100% disagree with these points.
I just got the golf bug! Love so much I bought a skytrak, really hope to get better as I still didn’t break 100!! First year playing! All I look is hit the ball straight:), golf range start to adds up!!!
i slice the ball consistently and i am wondering if the simulator will actually help me work out how how i can hit the ball straight. is the simulator the accurate ?
Would you practice riding a bike on a downhill track or on flat-level ground with plenty of room for error? Heading onto a course and just starting to swing the golf club is a sure-fire way to get over golf very fast. Practice Play Repeat.
It’s all about transition and adjustment from indoor to the golf course(wind, lie&etc) Same as driving Range swing vs on the course swing! It’s all about how well the transitions are,but for us that live in Midwest will not have golf for 3-4 month(winter)that’s why indoor golf(golf simulator)will help you to stay lose and keep your swing mechanic in check 👍👍 I think knowing your number and your swing tendencies(from golf simulator)will help you become a better players 👍
Totally agree with the mat, but, with a camera dtl and from the side, I can see what I'm doing right when making good contact, and poorly when making bad contact. I can see my swing path, impact angle, swing speed, distance, etc. More importantly, as someone who lives in the Northeast, I can maintain my swing and even improve it during the winter. It's difficult to hold on to the swing thoughts I had 5 months ago without any practice. The swing is a lot more important than the mat your hitting off of. It doesn't matter if you're on grass, if your takeaway sucks, your backswing sucks, you dont load up on your back leg......... it doesn't really matter what you hit off of.
I totally agree with this. I suffer from each of these. After 6 months of primarily simulator use I was garbage on a course. I was able to help that a lot by mixing in real good but Im still substantially better in my Sim.
I’m struggling with this. I practiced all winter on my Sim (mevo plus pro pkg). I’ve overcome indoor swing syndrome and want a single swing that I use both indoors and outdoors. I refined a swing over the winter where I try to hit ball first then take divot after ball. My mat does not punish you enough for fat shots so I developed bad habits over the winter. I expected having positive low point to mean shot wasn’t fat. This is not true. I’m having better results by focusing on hitting ‘ball only’ on the sim. I try to brush the carpet at most. To do this I’m hitting with angle of attack around -2 to -4 degrees. This swing translates to a level fairway very nicely and results in very ‘crisp’ shots. I’m 15 strokes better on sim than irl. I had to work with a pro to obtain the lower angle of attack. Every outdoor round gets better but I had myself convinced I’d start out shooting mid 80’s and I’m not.
Yep, it definitely helps you improve, and hopefully you saw the other video that shows the good of the monitor definitely outweighs the points in this video, but it's more to make people aware of these points so when they go outside, start focusing on those things and you will start to get better.
Very misleading. Honing your mechanics will help even if its from a perfect lie. Of course, real golf is different from sim golf but just knowing your consistent iron distance is a huge plus for your game.
Spot on! I will offer one more reason and a partial mitigation for #3. If you hit off mats that forgive the fat shots putting in a ton of work, you are likely to injure your wrists and elbows. This happens because you get away with hitting fat shots. A high quality mat helps, but still does not prevent this issue. Mitigation: You can use your laser range finder for chipping and pitching to help you connect to the feels from indoor. You will still need to adapt to lie conditions (rough, bare, soft, firm, slopes, etc.), but that is much easier with the same input you received in sim.
This makes no sense. Hitting balls is the best way to practice. It’s like saying the driving range is useless. The adjustment required to play outdoor is much less than the opportunity cost of not hitting those balls.
Well, I wouldn't say the driving range is useless, but it's a lot less valuable than people think, especially the way most people practice on it. But you also must have missed the follow up video to this where I talk about the value of launch monitors.
Thankfully I do not have indoor swing syndrome... but this reminds me of when we used to practice baseball in the winter inside the gym. Any throw I made went way off line or straight to the floor. I could not make any good throws. It was miserable. LOL
I equate the mevo to a very expensive training tool that allows you to get reps and feedback. Going to the driving range or even getting lessons won't help you unless you play consistently on the course. If you have money, go for it, but if you are expecting it to turn you into a great golfer you may be disappointed.
Will slices translate on these simulators? I don’t care about the environmental factors and all that stuff on the video. I care more about practicing my swings. Will the simulators show a slice when I’m actually slicing? Will it show a draw when I actually have a nice draw? Anyone know these answers?
They do show the slice and draw, with the pro package on Mevo+ it'll show you the path and face data which if you're working on your swing is all the most important. Use the link on some of my newest videos and the code SHG and it takes 5% more off the Mevo+ too with the sale price, it's really an unbeatable deal if you ask me.
My favorite is when people say no offense then say something offensive. Tells me a lot about them. I'll just take my 65 from the weekend and keep swinging it like crap.
Ditto. But now pls tell me how much it’s gonna help 😂. Oh and if you can, tell my wife it was a good investment. I had to watch this video under the stairs, with a hoodie, shades and a headphones in case you dropped a reality bomb 💣
@@snowm8n wow I was going to buy the mevo+ now i won't. Based on this video it just isn't worth it. Like you said "you wont get any better with a launch monitor." I'll stick to the range. THanks Scott. Sure the Mevo people will love this post. And I guess no reason to watch your videos. Thanks again
Scott Hogan Golf I’m still stoked for my mevo+. I plan to have the kids and wifey get in there and have fun playing sim rounds. This will help keep me in good standing and trick them into loving the game. Keep the vids coming - I just subbed and hit the 🛎
Let me know if you want some videos about working with kids. It has been OUTSTANDING for me working with kids to keep them engaged, that’s something that I would say is a speciality for me. Again, I saw you watched the other video, was having a little fun with this one, but it will be the best investment ever!
This video is ridiculous. It’s a simulator, mainly for analytical and entertainment feedback. I don’t think anyone believes they’re going to use these and suddenly become a scratch golfer. 👎🏽
You must have missed the video where right after this we talk about how it's a joke and it's actually a great purchase. Although, people to buy them to improve their games. For most that is their goal.

Totally get this. Been practicing on a Trackman. Ball-striking has not at all translated to the course. One of my playing buddies has the same issue.
Is it the contact or the flight of the ball that isn't translating?
Would you practice riding a bike on a downhill track or on flat-level ground with plenty of room for error?
Heading onto a course and just starting to swing the golf club is a sure-fire way to get over golf very fast. Practice Play Repeat.

Lol only 3-4 months? That's about the length of the entire golf season in North Central Ontario.

It's a struggle but something to work on!
Good thing I have a skytrak!!
No offense but by the looks of your swing you could use a simulator and some hours working on mechanics.
My favorite is when people say no offense then say something offensive. Tells me a lot about them. I'll just take my 65 from the weekend and keep swinging it like crap.
