- This is a Minecraft 1.18 tutorial for this villager based crop farm that will get you carrots, potatoes, beetroot and bread. The farm was built in Java and I have tested it in bedrock as well.
Bedrock players - I have tested this farm in 1.18 Beta and it works, you may need to place a bed in before the villager will pick up the farmer trade, the bed can then be removed.
A thank you to Carnage who initially tested the design in bedrock for me - / carnage808

IMPORTANT TIP : You can replace the vertical trapdoor with a fence gate and remove the upper trapdoor too. This will save you space and allow you to stack layers with no additionnal hoppers !
important!
Make sure to properly distance the fence where the villager is standing or else it will step out of the fence to the recollection system
Easy to understand tutorial, and seems really efficient, definitely gonna make a multi-floor one with different crops each floor and add a auto-sorting storage system at the bottom!
Awesome, that’s exactly what we do on the strangecraft server.
This is a wonderful farm! Works in 1.20! Built mine in the end!
I've used the villagers jammed behind hopper minecarts forever, but I needed a version where the farmer would throw food and it would fall into a water stream (cuz I have a multi-use farm setup (breeder, iron farm, and carrots) And this gave me the ideas I needed to make it work right. Thanks man!
Awesome video!! Love the build style - angles rock!! And stackable is just icing!!
Always keeps you stocked with crops, nice tutorial :D
Thank you dude!
Excelent design, solid accent. Thanks a ton.
Super useful video. Thanks.
Great tutorial and video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
well done video, thank you😉
This has to be the most easily stackable crop farm utilising minimal hoppers and symmetrical design. Excellent job, abfielder. Looking forward to a skeleton only mob farm from you
Thank you! Not sure skeleton only mob farms are possible unless using a spawner and the spawner farms are pretty simple.
@@abfielder Say, if I am to build a cactus bonemeal farm, how far up unto 320 blocks can I build until the height is too astronomical for the game to render and cactus only grows to a certain height at a certain floor/module?
Great Video! for my survival world I took your farm and combined it with an old logicalgeekboy farm. I took one pod and stacked them to make the farm taller and used logicals trading method. overall great video! Oh and I also used one of the seeds from one of your best seeds videos!
Thank you, and always awesome to know someone found a seed in my video that was worthy of being their next world!
best minecraft crop design out there.
It Works! I tried it and yeah only one floor is needed its that OP. All the other farms where trash THX.
Another nice tutorial
Thank you
Awesome. I just checked out your website. Really cool. I got some schematics. I also uploaded one. It is one of LogicalGeekBoy's Witch Farm designs I built. I'm new to Litematica (and mods in general) so the schematics include terrain blocks in my specific world. I didn't know how to not include them while selecting the area. Anyway, hope it helps.
Awesome will check them out, thank you.

I also just uploaded a Magma Cube farm by Shulkercraft.
Is there any trick to updating to 1.18 with mods? In the past the game did it automatically when I clicked "Play". But, now with mods I don't know how to update and still keep the mods. If any mods don't have a 1.18 version, will they still work with 1.18? I'm guessing "mostly yes". You used Tweakeroo in this video and it looks like there isn't a 1.18 version. Would this make a good tutorial? Or am I just making things harder than they are?
Great!
built this farm in every world i play in. it works great
Thank you and thank you for testing it in bedrock
Hi! I built this farm and its just wonderful! I have it for a long time however after a while the farmers are able to give each other food on the walls between them and they are able to pick up some of the stuff from other sectiosn thus the farm is mixing up. I have 1 layer, 4 section with different crop.
If you expand the farm 1 block each way, diagonally, and place an extra layer of walls between the fields, so now you have a wall alternating 1 and 2 blocks diagonally, this is enough to block the villagers from sharing food through the diagonals between the walls.
@@poughkeepsieblue Thank you! That helped greatly!
I build this from bedrock to sky limit (and yes i just bare minimum have space for storage, that will shoot all items up with water and then its stored in a HUGE enourmous storage)
this is on a server that lets you sell stuff from your plot so basically i sell indefinite items for $6 a stack (makes sense on this server it is a good deal) you can sell each item for $0.15 so its profit farm i made. I login ever so slightly and sell them myself, really nice
Works on Bedrock with 2 layers, I had to replace the trapdoors with a fence post at leg height then had to fix the hoppers so they were level with the dirt. besides that it works and is amazing for running in the background while I build stuff
At the start when you show the chests for what materias one needs, at the very first chest you are missing trapdoors
Hello! Love the farm! I built it on our realm in Bedrock and it work's great! Made an auto sorter at the bottom too. I do have a concern though, bread is being made very slow like less than 10/hr, and the wheat villager is no longer picking up wheat. Is that normal? Built 1 layer of all types, so 1 section for wheat
The villagers inventory has completely filled up with seeds.
Start a new villager in there and give him appx 16 seeds, and 11 stacks of wheat, this will fill his inventory with wheat, so he won't fill it with seeds, because every harvest gives him many more seeds then wheat, and with him sharing it so fast, he can't keep up.
So fill his inventory first.
Heya, new to your channel. Is the villager's auto-harvest routine linked to the mobGriefing rule like the Piglin bartering? Asking because my farmers aren't doing anything
Found the problem, gamerule mobGriefing must be set to true =^.^=
New to the game and just starting to build farms. How do I expand the storage in this farm? Is it as simple as placing chests on top of each other or is there a hopper system involved? Still getting the hang of how things work. Btw I built this in creative on bedrock and it works great! Thanks for the tutorial
You’d need to rearrange the hoppers. Have hoppers going into the side of the chest then you can have chests underneath each other. Point the hoppers into the side of the chest. The items can then be pulled downwards and sidewards. If that doesn’t make sense join the discord in the description and I can mock up an image.
good farm, but you dont need the water block in the center, just having the ones on the outside will do just fine
can u use glass as the walls instead of stone
Would this be more efficient if we were to put trapdoors around the light source above the composter? I've seen you do this on a wheat farm but wouldn't that apply here too?
in the wheat farm it's done purely so they don't empty their inventory of seeds. afaik they only use composters for seeds, so it doesn't apply to potatoes or carrotts and in any case they never deliver everything they harvest to the villager, so preventing composter losses doesn't actually increase productivity.
I built this and it looks great. Things were working just fine with beetroot. Then I realized that I mixed this build with another build for the center. So I changed the center to match yours. For some reason since then, I feel like the farmer in the center is merely swap items with the other farmer as there is nothing ending up in the chest. Do you know how to fix this? I've egged the farmers on the outside, but that didn't change the situation. Any guidance would be appreciated.
I had to egg the villagers several times and they finally went back to work.
I built one layer with wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot, will it still work or do I need to redo it with four layers?
One modification I had to make was to put a ring of trapdoors around the top of the light block above the composter. I’d used a sea lantern and without the trapdoors around the top of it (8 of them), the villager could still reach the composter and was depositing the potatoes.
This is on bedrock.
If ye trade with him once and eliminate the composter, does it work?
@@beastofthehunt Hmm interesting idea - I was under the impression they need their workstation visible to "do" work... Maybe that's a false assumption

does this farm work for 1.19?
@@oneron3201 it does for me… however… I didn’t chunk align mine and the villagers kept despawning. Next time, I think I’d try to keep each section in individual chunks if possible…
So I built the first 2 layers and everything was working fine then I added a 3rd layer and all of a sudden everything stopped working the farmers don’t trade with the fletchers anymore all the hoppers are placed properly the only thing I did that might of changed it from working was I placed a bed on accident but I destroyed it right away
The villagers on the second layer keep breeding with the ones on the first layer any fixes because it’s dropping my rates
Have it built but the villagers are not picking up the potatoes they will harvest and plant but when they grow they harvest them and don’t pick them up so there is potatoes everywhere and it worked for a while I have 6 double chests full but it stopped working anything I can do?
im not getting carrots or wheat from this. I have two quadrants for potatoes, one for wheat and one for carrot. Can you tell me why?
Hey, 2 questions I have.
1. my carrots are almost all grown, but my Villager does not harvest the carrots, speak down by the chest is nothing.
All villagers have a farmer hat on their head and run back and forth. What am I doing wrong? I have built everything 100% from you.
2. can it be that it has something to do with the pumpkins? Does it matter which pumpkin you take? The main thing that glows or? ^^
Difficult to know, the pumpkins won’t matter. So I guess the only other thing is are they connected to the right work stations. Try breaking a work station to see the farmer lose their profession and then put it back again make sure they are linked to the right ones:
Farm Villagers collect the crops and commonly use the composter but it’s been 3 minecraft days and they haven’t thrown any carrots into the hoppers the middle villager is even a farm one not sure if this farm works anymore tbh!
I have it running in my 1.18.1 Java world. I’ll retest in the latest version of bedrock but I’m not aware of any changes to the villager code between 1.18 and 1.18.1.
The fields need to be fully planted before the villager will throw any produce to the one in the middle, secondly he needs enough for himself before he’ll throw any that may take a few days depending on the state of the crops when he was put in.
@@abfielder okay I have the field fully planted and I’ve waited about 15 minecraft days for them to get enough crops and still nothing
sorry if this is dumb but would glass blocks on the side walls affect the villagers and what they see/do?
shouldn't do no
My villagers are composting even with the blocks on top. They harvest and such, but refuse to throw out food, they only use the composter.
So if I break the light on top of the composters they start to work for a bit and then stop. Wheat and beetroot farmers do nothing (as expected).
my villagers wont pick up crops or farm the crops already planted, mob griefing is on, any ideas?
i dont khow why but the farmers do not throw the crops to the centre vilager.
i have the same problem
They need to be able to farm they also need to be a farmer to farm and it takes some time for them to throw it
the farmers need full the inventory for start to throw
It's also needs to not be peaceful
How do i do this im having trouble with the hoppers to do what i want to do can someone plz let me know how to make muti storage with this
can this be placed underground? if one was crazy enough to dig a giant hole and provide ample lighting? asking for a friend..
I have it in a cave on my current world
is there a way to make this farm produce wheat not bread ?
any idea why my farmers aren't farming with this build?
great video and the farm works great, but i seem to have a problem where the villagers are making bread rather than tossing the wheat to the middle villager. How can I fix that?
You can’t, as per the video and the description it states bread. Wheat requires different mechanics ua-cam.com/video/mDaOT0xyZgk/v-deo.html
tried to expand storage and now nothing will store, resorted back to the original one hopper down to the 8 into a chest and isnt collecting anymore after trying to make an auto storage system.
Would need to see pictures of the storage system to figure out what was going wrong.
I built 1 layer, this design is like others but a little bigger. So 1.18.12 pe uhhhhh how do you lock villagers trade? Cause trading doesn't work they still change. Had smoker in center and 4 composters then below the potato farm was a few hoppers and chests n another smoker. Got fresh villager from breeder on a rail midway and put down fletcher block after awhile farmer turned fletcher so traded sticks then emeralds. Then took out smoker under center killed that villager broke fletcher table put it in center then moved fletcher in. Farmer in potato crop turned butcher. So killed him got fresh villager halfway put down composter waited then traded potato then moved into potato farm. Changed to butcher. So broke potato smoker below the farm and I'm waiting for this farmer that I traded with that turned butcher to turn back. Bet its gonna go fletcher. Trading with them don't lock it on bedrock.
Hi, made this on a friend local server and is not working properly :S we build it in the zone of spawn chunks for constatly load, any tip to fix it?
I've seen you've posted in the discord and it's all sorted, just for the benefit of anyone else who is looking, a player needs to be in range of villager farms for them to work, chunk loaders or being in the spawn chunks isn't enough.
my villagers are somehow breeding how do i fix this?
How far from breeder does this need to be to stop villagers staring at beds in breeder?
If you’ve got the breeder already set up properly then they should have already lost their association with the beds. As long as it’s all blocked up and there is no path to the beds then they won’t be able to claim them. So basically it can be just a few blocks away from the breeder.
I noticed they are mating tho....Currently juz completed the lowest level and noticed this
Does it work when I’m not near the farm?
I built a 28 level farm on my server and what I noticed is that some villagers turn back to those useless villagers leaving the farmer job. Why is it so?
I’ve seen that happen on servers but I have absolutely no idea why.
nice tut but my villager arent harvesting and when im dropping carrots. potatoes they take and not take
trade*
how far can i be from the farm to keep it working
How can I make the wheat farmer drop seeds and wheat instead of bread???
Please help
Different type of design required. See my wheat farm video.
I hear the farmers throwing the crops to the guy in the middle but nothing is ending up in the chest. I am on bedrock. I did have to put in beds to get the guys to become farmers but then I broke all the beds after they became farmers.
I suspect I encountered the same thing. I heard the boop boop quick throwing sound but didn't actually see any crops being thrown and nothing ends up in the chest 🤷🏻♂️
Can I build this farm next to a villager breeder ?
No
Seems like a helpful tutorial because of all the positive feedback in the comments, but it's a shame YT removed dislikes so I can't really tell lmao
It has a 98.9% like rating.
@@abfielder That's insane! I actually just built a stone farm to get all the materials I need to build it lol
Does the villager need to be empty? Used to be important, but not mentioned ?
If they’ve got different crops to the one you want to harvest then they’ll need emptying. It’s leave a blank field if that’s the case and let them plant up whatever they’ve got.
Great and easy tutorial thanks!
However, it seems my villagers are harvesting the seeds, but leave the wheat on the floor. And they seem to throw the seeds to the composter or to each other within the walls. How do I fix this?
Edit: I filled their inventories with one stack of seeds and the rest with wheat, but now they are making bread, and filling the compsoter to create bone meal...
Getting villagers to throw wheat and seeds to the center villager is difficult. Farmers villagers won't throw them to each other, instead preferring the use of composters. If you block the composter with trapdoors in a ring one block above, they can't make bread, so their inventories fill up, but they still won't throw to other farmers. This is what makes a hopper minecart going underneath work, because they'll still break crops and the items produced would just de-spawn otherwise due to their inventories being full. Any other villager type will throw wheat and seeds to farmer villagers, so it is possible to get them to do so but is very complicated and probably not worth the trouble.
You have to periodically remove the farmer profession from each villager in the crop fields at food throwing times during the day. To do this you can use a sticky piston in the floor below the farmland layer to retract their composters into the ground, this means you have to move the center water source one block to the side of it and lose one piece of farmland. The proper timing for when this needs to happen isn't simple, but you can approximate it using observers to trigger the sticky pistons twice a day, when a daylight sensor starts and ends outputting power 10 blocks down a line of redstone. You have to wire that signal to each composter in any wheat or beetroot fields in your farm, and making that compact to add to abfielder's stacked farm design is finicky and requires the use of leaf blocks, log blocks, sticky pistons, and observers positioned in a very specific pattern before you place the daylight sensor, and you have to wait to place the daylight sensor or connect it to the rest of the wiring till it's night time.
You also have to prevent the center villagers from linking to composters out in the fields by making them permanently farmers, but simultaneously prevent them from picking up the crops and seeds. To do this you have to trade with the center villagers to make them permanent farmers and provide them with their own composters within reach so they don't take the ones out in the fields. Then you have to fill their inventories with bonemeal so they can't pick up crops or seeds, can't use a composter to convert crops or seeds into bread or bonemeal, and can't throw anything back to the other villagers in the fields. Farmers won't throw bonemeal to other farmers, they use it on crops instead, so you also have to make sure there is no farmland directly within reach of the center villagers so they can't use the bonemeal and eventually empty their inventory.
All this work will let you harvest wheat, seeds, and beetroot with the throwing mechanic instead of hopper minecarts. However, it will also significantly lower the rates of the farm because the villagers in the fields might take a long time to re-link with their composters each day or may bug out and not do so for multiple days, making them harvest crops far less often.
@@clarioneversole9013 Thank you for your reply. I built part of the first layer of this farm then let it run overnight to see if it would even work for me before I committed and built the rest of it, but now I’m having the aforementioned problem that started this reply thread. Your reply let me know this farm won’t work as simply as advertised and that I need to look into another design. Thank you for saving me so much construction time, frustration, and materials!! ❤️
@@nicolebry1120 You're very welcome! I'm glad I could save you some time. ^^
Thats a basic villager mechanic, you must fill their entire inventory and collect via hopper minecarts or a ton of hoppers underneath the farmland, otherwise there isnt a way to gain wheat via villagers.
Perhaps try using carrots and such instead and turning some of the gains into bonemeal to fuel a manual wheat farm?
What texture packs are you using
in java the texture pack is called depixel. In bedrock I think it was this one - realsourcepack.com/download-rtx-for-pc/
Hi. I'm on bedrock but they all seem uninterested on the composter. Do they need beds for it to work?
Yeah temporarily a bed in once they claim the bed they’ll get their trade. You should then be able to remove the bed.
@@abfielder did that, now they're working perfectly. I really like the design of this build, with some decoration outside I'll managed to make it look very nice.
For some reason my farmers dont do anything. They dont farm any crops. Any fix?
Bedrock or Java? Bedrock you may need to temporarily place a bed in so they actually become farmers. Java make sure they've picked up the farmer trade. If that doesn't work, you can join this discord discord.gg/PJPWafSrcS and post pictures in the #minecraft-pictures channel and I'll try and help. Just a heads up it's late in the UK so it'll be tomorrow before I'll be able to get back to you.

I built this farm, any idea why the farmers refuse to throw their crops?
If you haven't fully planted up the fields then the farms will be holding onto them to finish planting. If you have then the only other reasons would be either 1) they haven't harvested enough crops to fill up their own inventory yet or 2) mistake in building it and the gap between the villager in the middle and the farmers is too big.

Mine isn't working. Don't you need beds? For the villagers to share? @abfielder
The trapdoors aren't preventing the villager from picking up the crops correctly @abfielder
No need for beds, and for the middle villager, you can fill his inventory with renamed items (like 8 different beetroots) and this will prevent him from picking items
